9 best folding walkers

Folding walkers are mobility aids designed to assist individuals with walking difficulties or limited mobility. These devices are commonly used by seniors, individuals recovering from surgery or injury, or anyone who requires additional support while walking. Here's what you need to know about folding walkers:

  1. Foldable Design: Folding walkers are characterized by their collapsible frame, which allows for easy storage and transportation. When not in use, the walker can be folded down to a more compact size, making it convenient for travel and storage.

  2. Sturdy Construction: Most folding walkers are made from lightweight but durable materials such as aluminum or steel. This ensures the walker's stability while remaining easy to maneuver.

  3. Adjustable Height: Many folding walkers feature adjustable height settings to accommodate users of varying heights. Proper adjustment is important to ensure that the user can maintain an upright posture while walking.

  4. Hand Grips: Folding walkers typically have comfortable hand grips that provide support and a secure grip while walking. Some models even have ergonomic or padded handles to reduce hand strain.

  5. Wheels: Some folding walkers come with wheels on the front or all four legs. Walkers with wheels are often referred to as "rollators." Wheels make it easier for users to move forward without lifting the walker with each step.

  6. Brakes: Rollators often feature hand-operated brakes on the handles, allowing users to stop and secure the walker when needed. This feature is especially useful when navigating uneven terrain or slopes.

  7. Accessories: Many folding walkers can be customized with various accessories to enhance functionality. Common accessories include baskets or pouches for carrying personal items, trays for carrying meals or drinks, and cane holders.

  8. Weight Capacity: Folding walkers have weight limits that indicate the maximum load they can support. It's crucial for users to select a walker with an appropriate weight capacity to ensure safety and stability.

  9. Usage: Folding walkers are suitable for a wide range of situations, including indoor and outdoor use. They provide support and stability while walking, which can help users maintain or regain their independence.

  10. Medical Advice: Before purchasing a folding walker, it's advisable to consult with a healthcare professional or physical therapist. They can provide guidance on selecting the most suitable type and size of walker based on an individual's specific needs and mobility requirements.

In summary, folding walkers are essential mobility aids that provide support and assistance to individuals with walking challenges. Their foldable design, sturdy construction, and various features make them versatile tools for improving mobility and maintaining independence. Users should take into account their specific needs, such as the need for wheels or accessories, when choosing a folding walker.

User questions & answers

Question: I am curious to know how this walker folds up; do the sides collapse to the middle or some way else
Answer: No. You can use the scale just like a regular digital scale. When you open the app on the Measurements screen, your weight and BMI will be synced to your phone automatically so you can track your weight history.
Question: How wide is this (from handle to handle
Answer: Yes, your scale should be accurate and consistent. It should have less than 0.2 lb error margin if your weight is under 110lb, and less than 0.4 lb error margin if your weight is in the range of 110 – 220 lb. There are some common causes that may affect the accuracy and consistency. 1) The scale was not placed on a hard and flat surface when you weighed. Please do not use the scale on carpets. 2) Your scale did not zero out when you took the measurement. Please do a power on reset. Pull one battery out and put it back, and immediately place it on a hard and flat surface. Make sure your scale displays “0.0”. 3) For each measurement, please wait for your scale back to 0 then step on to measure. Please double check and try again. If the error margin is bigger than the specs, please contact our customer service at 1-800-658-1148 (M-F: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, US Central Time). User questions & answers

Question: I'm 5' 1" will this work for me
Answer: I think it might. It is 32" from the floor to the top of the handles without the wheels, and 34" with the wheels on. I'm 5'7" and it is a bit to low for me at its lowest setting. I bought it for my husband who is 6'3" and it has to be on its highest setting for him. Hope this will help you.
Question: what is the maximum weight capacity of this walker
Answer: what is the weight of the walker?
Question: can you purchase an extra pair of wheels for the back
Answer: I would suppose so. If not from the manufacturer, from a company which sells wheels. They are a very standard size. I have used walkers for mobility for at least ten years. I have never had a problem with the wheels on any manufacturer's product. I have replaced the glides on the rear, the brakes, and occasionally the adjusting knobs on the sides, but never the wheels. Whichever manufacturer supplied your walker, go to their website and look up replacement parts.. I have never had a problem getting parts or accessories
Question: What is the width inside handgrip
Answer: Width 20.5" inside hand grip | 23" inside back legsOverall Width 27"Depth (Opened at Base) 23"Height 32" - 39"

User questions & answers

Question: What is the total width ? We have a 20" door to get through
Answer: My medline Freedom ultralight is 21 1/2 inches wide, with wires sticking out further that have to be squished in . It definitely wouldn't work with a 20" door. It could work with 22 or 23 inch door, if you push the wires in as you go through.
Question: Can a cup holder be attached
Answer: You might be able to attach one if it would go on a bicycle handlebar but it might interfere with folding it up. Beware the wheel fell off after 6 months on ours.
Question: what size are the wheels
Answer: 6 in wheels. I did have one brake that went out on me. Would cost $70 to repair just the one. My children bought this for me. I found out that medicare will pay for one every 6 years. I got a doctors prescription and was able to get a DRIVE rollator. I like the bag under the seat better . This one had heavy duty snaps while the Meline had grippers that kept come undone. Finally had to put safety pins on to hold them. Check with your dr if you qualify. I am 83 woman and didn't know about it. If you want a light weight one keep the wheels under 8 inches. I am in a retirement home so no need of a heavy duty one.
Question: Does this work well on the concrete outside
Answer: I don't do a lot of walking on concrete due to pain in my feet, but for short distances, this rollator works moderately well and doesn't get hung-up on sidewalk cracks. I bought this rollator because I needed something really light to put into, and take out, of my van - for Dr appts, shopping, visiting, etc. and for this, this rollator is great! However, I have a second rollator with 8" wheels, that has a much smoother ride to it, on any and every surface. If going for walks on concrete sidewalks, i'd suggest a rollator with 8" wheels.

Question: Can I add front wheels in the future if needed

User questions & answers

Question: does this need to be put together
Answer: Hello, thank you for your interest in Drive Medical! This Trigger Release Walker should arrive assembled, you should only need to adjust the height of the legs.
Question: adjustable height
Answer: Hello Omar, thank you for your interest in Drive Medical! The height on this walker is adjustable from 32"-39".
Question: how much does the walker weigh
Answer: The basic walker weighs about eight pounds. Mine is about ten pounds since it has a couple of carriers with things like a phone, tote bags, and iPad in them.
Question: Can this have ski slides on back
Answer: Yes, you can take off the glides that come with it and put on ski slides. I don't recommend the Drive ski slides which I got because they fit too tightly. Try another brand.
Question: is there a carrying case available
Answer: No carrying case included. I keep mine in my car--it accordians down so that is is relatively compact. Much easier for me to man handle in and out of my car. (Never took it on airplane, where it might make sense to have some sort of case if it were to be checked.) P. Probst
Question: What is the difference among the walkers other than color
Answer: The only difference is color! I have the rose color one and I love it! Everyone who sees it asks where I got it. I love that I can squeeze it together to get through narrow spaces.
Question: What is the outside width of the base legs? I need a walker for a 20-inch door
Answer: The outside width is NO problem as you can squeeze the walker to a narrower width which is most useful for going between rows of seats at a movie or similar venue.
Question: Is there any concerns or danger since the walker is without a brake? Can it be easily stopped? Thank you
Answer: No walker break is meant to stop a run away. Because this walker is only a two wheeler and has good sturdy feet, it is studier than a 3 or 4 wheeler and less likely to become a run away. My grandmother is able to easily and safely maneuver this walker up and down standard wheel chair ramps.

User questions & answers

Question: can the hand brakes be adjusted for weaker people? Thank you Lynn
Answer: Yes, the sides collapse to the middle just as on the higher priced walkers. I have an expensive priced walker given to me through Medicare and this one is just as sturdy. Would definitely recommend it.
Question: what are the pros and cons of a steel or aluminum rollator
Answer: Handle to Handle is 19 3/4", not including the width of the wheels (5" wheels). I purchased the 3" wheels to go through narrow bathroom doorway. If you put on 3" wheels the walker would be 21 1/4" measurement on the bottom (walker is wider on bottom). If you keep the 5" wheels and flip them to the inside the walker would be approximately 21 1/4" on the bottom side.
Question: What is the width of the wheel base at it's widest? Needs to fit through 25" bathroom door
Answer: YES, it's definitely possible to add back wheels. I've had multiple sclerosis for 21 years and have ALWAYS used 4-wheeled walkers. Just buy an additional set of 5" wheels and snap them in just as you do with the front wheels.
Question: Does this item come assembled
Answer: We reversed wheels so the wheel is on inside was doing too much damage to base board when on outside.

User questions & answers

Question: how do you adjust brakes
Answer: I never use the brakes
Question: Hi. I have trouble walking because of my back, and I was hoping that I could sit on this seat and "scoot" along with my feet. Would that work
Answer: Hi Scampernanny, Thanks for your interest in the Drive Medical Aluminum Rollator Walker Fold Up and Removable Back Support, Padded Seat. Drive Medical highly advises against using this rollator while sitting to move yourself. It can be very unsafe as too much weight towards the front or the back could cause the rollator to slip and the placement of the brakes makes it difficult to stop the rollator from the seated position. If you are looking to sit down and use your feet to propel you it is recommended that you look at a wheel chair. Below are links to some wheel chairs that are light in weight and safe to use for your purpose.Link to Silver Sport 1 Wheelchair: http://www.amazon.com/Drive-Medical-Wheelchair-Removable-Footrest/dp/B001HOI7AS/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1418653037&sr=1-1&keywords=ssp118fa-sfLink to Blue Streak Wheelchair: http://www.amazon.com/Drive-Medical-Wheelchair-Detachable-Swing-away/dp/B002VWK1TA/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1418653113&sr=1-1&keywords=bls18fbd-sf
Question: how much does it weigh
Answer: My Drive Rollator weighs 13 lbs. Much lighter then many of the others. I found it relatively easy to get it in and out of the trunk of my Toyota Camry.
Question: How wide is this walker? Will it fit through narrow bathroom doors
Answer: My toilet door frame is 23 inches wide. The door doesn't open all the way so the actual clearance is 22". This rollator is about 24" at its widest point (the wheels in back). I moved the rear wheels to the inside of the frame on the opposite side. This makes the rear part to the rollator MUCH narrower and it fit though. I did need to adjust the cable length by messing with the screws at BOTH ends of the cable, and to temporarily disconnect the screw mounting the handle lever to the rest of the system to be able to reattach the brake cable to the pivoting serrated brake part. I think I'll leave some pictures in a review>
