It has as much to do with the "quality" of the metal, as it does with the intended use of the metal. Not everything needs the most nonferrous of stainless steel. The suggestion to try a refrigerator magnet on your oven to see how ferrous it is, is an excellent idea. Same goes for your refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher (and I suppose any other stainless steel appliance you might have). This way you know if a magnet will stick or not before you buy anything for it.

The cord is extremely long, so it's easy to place the probe in the meat at the start and close the lid. pre-set your temp and insert it into the device or you can wait if you like and attach to the device later depending on what you're cooking. Answer:	no, it is not. there's a battery in the red unit.

Answer:	I would say "No", it is not waterproof. This, made in China product, has instructions on a paper, but the more important initial warnings/information is on the front flap of the cardboard box. There it states not to immerse the red unit in water. There is a battery already installed, and they give you a second battery, which is nice. But no, wipe it off only. Keep reading for my other observations. I was not happy that it came from China, but I don't use it often enough to worry about metal poison. I bought this because the old, mercury thermometer is just too hard to read now, at age 58. This was easy, but I may think the next one, would be the expensive one that doesn't require a wire coming out of the oven. I wonder if it wrecked the seal and made the oven work harder? My food was done 40 entire minutes ahead of schedule and that is a problem, especially when I can entertain again. You cannot keep the red unit in the oven either because of the battery, so, knowing this now, I should have bought more intelligently, and considered the one that sends information to my phone app. I didn't see this as creating new problems, whichit is raising now. I only saw this as solving the one problem.
Question:	Can this be inserted into cold meat and the probe and meat stay in bbq grill until done
Answer:	This comes with a wire probe which you can insert into meat. The orange thermometer is magnetic to attach to the outside of your grill . So if use the probe with the wire you can leave it in the grill not the probe that unfolds from the thermometer . I love mine. We actually have 2 the one without the wire to check temperature when we aren't using the wire one. Enjoy.

Answer:	these thermometers will typically work up to about 400 F, so if you want to check the temperature of cooking oil for frying, you can do that. Thermapens do, double check the specs on this.

Question:	How Can you measure oven temperature
Answer:	You must have a surface that you are pointing the device at. In other words it is not going to measure the air temp in the oven. If you have a baking steel or Pizza stone this would be perfect to measure the surface temperature. If you want to get the temperature of the grate, that works too. I hope this was helpful.
Question:	Will this device take body temperature accurately
Answer:	No. For body temperature you want a specific part of the body that is an enclosed area, usually under the tongue with the mouth closed. But this device only measures surface temperatures.

Answer:	You can return usually to a ups after you request it online. Just print out the return form and take it to a ups
Question:	Will this item measure air temperature from vents
Answer:	Sort of, yes. Technically no. It measures surface temperatures so it will measure the temperature of the grill the air is coming out of. That should be pretty close the the air temp so long as it has been blowing steadily for a while. But if the heat/cool has just come on it will give an inaccurate reading.
