Question:	Which Windows operating systems is this software compatible with
Answer:	I have never been able to get the software to work under Windows 10 Pro. It never recognizes the device. I spent many hours trying to get it to work. I tried to get it working on my 8 core desktop, a Microsoft Surface Book, and a Surface Book 2 when I upgraded. I also emailed back and forth with support several times. They tried their best to help, but none of their suggestions worked, so I finally gave up on using the Windows software with this device. It's a shame because the PC connection is one of the reasons I chose this device over other brands. Of course, by the time I gave up, it was well past the return period. Fortunately, as a stand-alone device, this meter works very well. So, even without the PC software, it's a great value. In fact, despite the software issues, I'm still pretty happy with this meter. I hope this was helpful.

Answer:	According to directions it is well calibrated before shipment and recommends recalibration cycle of one year. Directions tell you how to recalibrate. Seems to be working for me/

The first mode simply reads the noise level at a constant rate, continually flucuating as the noise level changes. The other mode as she mentioned is the "MAX" mode. When you set it to this mode it will hold the highest reach noise level since placing the meter on MAX mode. Answer:	Hi there - I am with BAFX Products Support.It can certainly reach 30dBa however to find a location where the sound level is that low you will need to work very hard. Even most "VERY quiet rooms" are going to have a readings of anywhere from 35-45dba.Using it in a room of a house away from any busy streets, with all windows and doors closed, all ventilation off and all air ducts closed and no humans or animals in the room, MAY allow you to get down to 35dBa or so. Reaching a level of 30dba is going to be extremely difficult for most people unless you have a sound proof room.Regards,BAFX Products Support

Question:	How well will this work to measure the sound level in a car cabin
Answer:	IT can work fine. When turned “on” it displays an internal reading that appears high. Ignore this reading because the car read is probably higher.

Answer:	no you can not program it at all. it just has the microphone on top to pick the noise up and then shows you on the display what the noise level is.
Question:	Does it lock to the loudest sound? , if I wanted to check the db of a gunshot for example
Answer:	I'm not sure what you mean "lock" but you can check for the loudest db very easily, and the lowest db, too. It doesn't stay on that number forever though. Or at least I haven't gotten it to do that. But I'm usually too busy trying to figure out the average db's. I wish it told me that. It cycles off after so long (maybe 20 - 30 min.) and then you've lost all the data.

Answer:	"Made In China" ... that is what is molded on the 9v battery door. Not sure why that really matters as it seems that 80% of the world's products come from China. If we were a bit more tyrannical, empirical, communistic methods then maybe we could compete but who wants to make products where we poison the community, the workers and their minds. I remember where things were "Made in the USA" and if it came from another country it was like "wow!" really? Answer:	It will read the ambient sound level, and the compressor will be part of that. It shouldn't matter what the sound is at 300 ft. Get a copy of your town's noise ordinance; work with the cops, if that is not satisfactory, lawyer up.
Question:	How accurate is it? Can one rely on the readings
Answer:	The one I have seems pretty accurate, comparing the readings to a minidsp umik-1 they are very close. Assuming the umik-1 is calibrated correctly I would say decently accurate.

Question:	I have a very busy neighborhood road with noisy traffic. i need to be able to record over a period of time, maybe 12 hours. any suggestions
Answer:	It would work. Just set the interval for like every 15 minutes for 24 hours, it will save it onto an XL spreadsheet. I'm not sure about 12 hours though, you have to see how long it will stay on before turning off automatically

I believe this can be connected to a computer to log data, but we have not tried that, and a simple dosimeter/datalogger that is standalone is in my opinion much more convenient for continuous monitoring purposes.

Question:	Is it normal for the device to measure 47 dBA in a quite room out of the box
Answer:	47 seems a bit high, but listen to what is around you. There may be things that you've grown accustom to and therefore 'tune them out'. If you have a large closet with a fair amount of hanging clothes (they absorb a lot of noise), try it in there. In my case I get 38-40. Also, holding it can make a difference. What do you get if you put it on a tripod? I had an opportunity to compare mine to a pro-quality unit (> $2,500) in a sound room, but didn't think about it at the time given the rush to get things done.

If you're looking to meet ANSI then I suggest you spend the money and buy an appropriate product from a more scientific company. No slam on Meterk but they appear to sell a wide variety of products. You may wish to consider Amprobe SM-10 at $172 as it seems to meet ANSI, IEC, JISC (Japan) and N10140 (Australian) standards

Question:	Someone mentioned that the audible alarm lasts for 2 minutes. What if I just want a 5 second notification
Answer:	You can adjust the following 4 things pertaining to the alarm: 1) what decibel level sets it off, 2) when triggered, how long does the alarm go off (defaults to 120 seconds, but you can adjust it down), 3) how loud the alarm should be when it goes off (it beeps kind of like an alarm clock - this controls how loud the beeping is), 4) you can turn the alarm feature on or off
Question:	does it come with calibration certification or can it be sent for calibration
Answer:	I can't remember if it came with cert, and am sure it can be calibrated, you just need someone who can read/understand Chinese. For what I use it for (live music) it keeps everyone on the same page/parameter (100db is the target). Perfect for me.
Question:	Can you adjust what level the alarm begins to sound
Answer:	Yes you can change the sound threshold for the alarm.
Question:	Can you choose to turn off the alarm? I really just want a visual in my classroom and to avoid adding noise to the environment

Answer:	This unit is supposedly calibrated at the factory. Otherwise, you can measure a noise source with a known calibrated meter and then compare the readings.

Question:	Can you capture realtime output from the USB cable, or is the software the only way to view the data
Answer:	Yes, you can export the data with the USB cable. Please connect to a PC to do the record setting(like recording interval ect.)before record, then press "Rec" on the meter to start to record. The data will record in the software and then you can download.

Answer:	525A does not support, 525B supports data synchronization to the computer,
Question:	Can you set the high level you want the alarm to sound
Answer:	Yes you can. FYI - This worked ok as a fast curve but I needed a slow curve so I sent it back.
Question:	Will an alarm go off if a certain sound level is reached? Need this feature for my son
Answer:	There is an alarm feature but it is not very loud to hear it if the unit is setup more than 5ft away. When a level is set the numbers will blink/flash for about 10secs to notify you that dB level has been exceeded which i like better than an alarm. Hope this helps.

what does it mean how does it work.. does it have actual alarm that? "with Backlight Alarm" term what is it

Hello thanks for asking. Yes, our sound level meter has back-light alarm function. "Back-light alarm" means when measured noise exceeds the value you set, the backlight will flashing. Say you set 66dB as the threshold, when the sound exceeds 66dB, then the backlit will flashing. By the way, you can also disable the auto shutdown function, then sound meter can continuously reading sound until you turn it off by manual. Hope this information can help you.
