Answer:	What model do you have? This question is listed under the 6 inch caliper, General Tool Model 147. Your question states 3 inch caliper. The procedure for the 6 inch Model 147 is as follows:The battery compartment is the small shiny plated panel to the right of the display, above the word zero. 1. Flip the caliper so that the digital display is face down.2. Remove only the top screw. Do not remove the bottom screw that is near adjustment roller. The screw appears to be captured by the housing, but take care not to lose the screw. 3. The top of the panel (held by the screw removed above) should flip outward. The bottom of the panel is held by a tab.4. Remove the panel. 5. Note the battery polarity. On mine, a SR-44 battery, the positive side is visible with the battery installed. 6. Replace the battery. 7. Insert the tab on bottom of the panel, in the slot of the bezel housing. 8. Push the panel downward. Carefully start the screw and tighten. Do not over tighten the screw. I hope this helps. Again this is for the Model 147 six inch caliper.

Answer:	It has no locking mechanism. I suppose it could be screwed down somehow but that is up to you to figure out. Good luck

Answer:	Unfortunately NO. They used to and it helped. Why did they discontinue this??
Question:	What is the country of manufacture for this tooI? They come from two different countries and the quality of one of those countires is suspect
Answer:	The ones I received are Swiss-made as were previous ones I bought under different brand names. These are NOT precision tools but are accurate to within 1/64” (until the jaws wear which doesn’t take long).
Question:	Is the model 145 (0.001" reading version) still Swiss made like my 25-year old one that has worked very well for woodworking
Answer:	The outer green scale is 0.01 inch and the inner white scale is 1/64 inch. Do not know about Swiss made but this is a well constructed plastic version that is well made. The only thing I dislike is the clear plastic cover is hard to adjust to get a 0 reading. Other than that is does what I want it to. I measure wood and drill sizes with it. A pleased with it.

Answer:	Right handed..... but in all reality this is a no hand caliper... it's a piece of junk! Don't buy! Spend $30 and get a decent stainless one.

Answer:	The battery is under the "thumb" ribs of the tool it "clips' out. Hope this is of some help?
Question:	caliber was dead. Installed a D389 versus SR54 which came with it. How to turn on
Answer:	Take out the new battery and examine the metal contact on the bottom and the metal band that surrounds the interior of the orifice for any moisture or battery corrosion and if present you'll need to remove it with a lint free (coffee filter) folded piece of paper dampened, (squeeze out excess moisture) with a solution of baking soda and water and keep turning it exposing a clean area, wiping all residue away then following with a dry piece to make sure it's completely dry. With the caliper jaws in the closed position, insert the battery with the smooth "+" side up, replace the cover plate and press the ON/OFF button holding down for a second or two until it comes back to life. Answer:	We have it manufactured in China, but we ourselves are in the U.S. ~EAGems
Question:	How long does the battery typically last when used only a couple times a month? Also what size/type battery does it use
Answer:	The one I've used personally for the last year still has the same first battery in it. I use it perhaps 2-3 times per week. It uses a 3V #2032 battery, and comes with one in the caliper plus has an additional one in the case. Hope that helps. ~EAGems

Answer:	The ONLY under $50 to $100 calipers I have seen with a factory signed calibration check list are the Igaging Absolute Origin calipers. Not sure that even that would satisfy a metrology lab as even a Xerox subsidiary manufacturing facility I worked for, with it's own fully equipped inspection and metrology lab had a independent audit done by an outside NIST certified lab on a yearly basis to check it's reference standards and testing equipment. All new items requiring calibration from torque wrenches through micrometers and calipers were logged in and calibration checked before issuing to manufacturing too.

Answer:	Hi there, the battery case is actually easy to open. Follow these steps:1. Hold the unit vertically with the back of the caliper facing you. You should see the Metr. -ISO chart, NOT the digital display side!2. There are two tiny screws, you ONLY need to remove the left hand side screw using the included screwdriver. No need to loosen the screen located above the slide wheel!3. Make sure you holding the unit by the case cover for the battery, once you loosen the screw it will easily come and and reveal the battery.Hope this helps!

Changing the Battery from the Back is a Simple Task

To change the battery, just turn the caliper over so the LCD Display is facing down and the slider clamp screw is facing toward you (down), with the thumb roller up. Using the provided screwdriver, remove the screw on the same side as the slider clamp screw, using caution not to lose it since it is so small. Once the screw is removed, the battery cover on the opposite side will be loose and the battery will easily come out. Insert new battery with plus (+) side facing up. Replace cover, and while holding it in place, reinsert the screw and tighten. That’s it. Properly dispose of used battery.

A series of follow-up messages with tips for using the caliper are emailed within 2-3 weeks of a customer receiving the tool. Answer:	I store mine closed as it takes up less space in the utility box. However, that being said. fully open unloads the spring tension which may allow longer spring life. comes down to personal choice.

Answer:	It says waterproof,I keep mine in my uninsulated garage and it didn’t rust yet.a caliper with a dial will also be waterproof and a LOT more accurate

Answer:	Yes it can. Big jaws for measuring outside diameter, 1.5" deep jaws, max OD can measure is 3.0". Small jaws opposite big jaws for measuring inside diameter, jaw depth .625". It will stay in same unit as it was last used, doe not automaticallt reset unit, which is a good thing.
