This wire will become rigid and return to straight when exposed to temperatures above 40 C (hot water, lighter, heat gun, etc). Yes - it comes pre-trained STRAIGHT from the factory which is how you want it. You can re-train it if you want by heating it (500 C for 45 minutes) in the new desired shape. The wire has a lustrous titanium color (dark grey) with a bluish oxide tint on its surface. When freshly cut, the inner core is nickel white. Nitinol is very abrasion resistant and has self-healing properties, so the wire is quite hard to cut and kink. It feels very smooth and shiny to the touch. It does not require any special handling or protections from oxidation or moisture, and is non-toxic. Do not over heat it, as that will damage the property. If you are using electricity instead of hot water to activate it be sure to use a current limiting circuit.

Answer: It should, it's more like silver soldering, hot enough to melt the weld material, but not not enough to melt the aluminum radiator. The aluminum must CLEAN! And you may need a MAPP gas torch. It may plug that section of the core, though. I used it on an unknown aluminum alloy, and it worked fine.

Question: What is the current shape when cool and when heated
Answer: It's body temp so if you don't get it cold, it won't work well. Get it slightly damp and put it in a fridge or freezer for a bit. Then without touching it with your hands, bend it. Now breathe on it of warm it slightly and it will got to the trained position
Question: Not having much luck getting the wire to bend without it being a permanent bend? Tried annealing also but had no luck, out of box did not work

Answer: If ur dryer gets hotter than the temp required to re set the nitinol (932 deg F) then yes but I highly doubt ur dryer gets that hot.

Answer: Wire should be heated 540 degree centigrade, and held in new position you want it to remember, then cooled quickly.
Question: What temperature does the wire have to be heated to to program a new memory shape
Answer: Yes, but you need a lot of power. For a 12" length I needed about 5 volts at 3.5 amps. At that current you can quickly overheat the wire which will degrade future performance.
Question: Can it be electrically heated instead of using hot water
Answer: The wire can be trained to remember a new shape. This requires that the wire be held in the "New Shape" while being heated until it is slightly red hot, then dipped into cold water. This procedure will train the wire to remember the new shape.

Answer: When I got mine, I heated it up under some hot water and it straightened out. When it cools, you can strain it and bend it to a certain degree without damaging it (I know you can strain it to about 8-10% without permanent damage, although it will remember a certain shape after a while due to fatigue). Also if you heat it up to around 930 F (500 C), you can change the shape of the nitinol wire, as long as the wire is constrained; I made a small spring with mine. Make sure to cool the wire rapidly to lock in the martensite transformation (ie bucket of water) and also try not to go over 500 C or else the transition temperature might rise.
