They're made of brass. The shear strength of brass is about 32000 psi. This is about the same as aluminum 6061-t6, less than half that of 303 stainless steel, and about three times that of nylon or acetal. In practice with these small shafts, the set screws slip way before the teeth shear. Pinning them would be tricky. Brass worm/wheel sets are generally hard to find and expensive. Last year these were much more expensive elsewhere. The 60 tooth version makes a nice one degree indexer.

Answer:	The 20 tooth version is a 20:1 ratio. For one turn of the worm you'll turn the pinion one tooth. So a 40 tooth pinion will give you a 40:1 ratio.
Question:	What is the correct distance between the axis of the worm and the worm gear for proper mesh
Answer:	I found that 10 mm separation distance was a good fit. My initial calculations set it at 10.5, but this produced too much binding. Definitely not an expert, but this is what I found to be true.
