Answer:	Count the number of cogs (or rings of gear nubs) on the cassette on the rear hub. Generally, there are 7 to 11 rings on the cassette. That number is how you refer to the number of speeds of your bike for maintenance purposes. You then multiply that number by the number of chain rings (or sprockets) on the crank set; generally, it's 2 or 3. For example, if there are 3 chain rings on the crank set and 9 rings on the cassette, then your bike is a 27-speed. However, for maintenance purposes, it's a 9-speed.

2. Tighten down by turning the top handle clockwise until the chain pin loosens.

3. Do the same on the second pin freeing link plate from the pins.

Answer:	The width of a 12 speed bicycle chain is less than a 6 or 7 speed. It won’t fit snuggly in this chain splitter. You may be able to hold the chain in place while you push out the pin but it would be easier with the right sized tool.

Answer:	I personally broke the tool doing it but managed to get it done. 50/50 but for the price go for it. It’s a one time use unless it’s a simple pedal bike, then twice
