Answer:	I just measured it and a hole of 1 and 5/8 inches would leave about 1/16 clearance. The height is 5/8 inch before it starts to taper in, so the plank that it is mounted would probably not need to be any taller than that.

Question:	I'm looking for an alternative to casters. Will these work on carpet
Answer:	I used a couple of these on the underside of a porch gate to help keep the gate from sagging and to help with a smoother opening and closing. So far it's working great. I don't think these would be good on carpet, even commercial carpeting. Any weight they carried would make them sink into the carpet and the bearing isn't exposed enough for that. It's just barely exposed enough to roll on a solid surface.
Question:	What is the larges size bolt you can use to thro bolt with on these bearing holes
Answer:	The actual diameter of the holes is 3/16".
Question:	Do they have a solid backing? Other's I've seen have no back at all, which won't work for my purposes
Answer:	Yes they have a solid backing. HOWEVER, the backing is not a flat back in the same plane as the mounting plane. Instead the back is a steel cup below the ball and inside the ball enclosure. So the backing cup and the enclosure make a complete surround of the ball except for the top from which the ball protrudes.

Question:	Want to build a platform for my 800lb fish tank. Will these still roll after long periods of static weigh? Rolling on concrete floor
Answer:	Yes, you can build a platform with the 1 inch Roller Ball Bearings for your 800lb fish tank, I used 6 of them for the bottom of my 32 Ga Bio Cube with stand. My Bio Cube was rated to be just under 400 pounds total weight full. My tank roll’s slowly / smoothly across wood floors easily after sitting for some time with no issues “yet”! I do not move the tank often though. I’m sure they will guide more smoothly on a concrete basement floor. Here’s my advice, you will need more than 6 for your platform (800lbs) get 12 or more. Buy good screw’s, the bearings do not come with any attaching methods. Before installation of the bearings paint the base of the item, not the roller ball the color of your new base. These things are shinny and I didn’t want them visible from the bottom of my base. Then position them where you think they will be needed and pre-drill pilot holes for them, then paint your base and Install everything, wiring / power supply and wire hangers etc. Only one area of concern, I have a salt water tank and have had a few spills of water, I know that the water was under the roller ball and I did clean up the mess although I do not know if there is any rust on the roller balls now due to being so close to the ground. Question:	Can this be used same as a caster under light furniture or storage baskets - some of them can not
Answer:	The ball flange is 2” in diameter so the furniture feet needs to be 2”x2” square or 2” in diameter to stay hidden. Also, when installing, you must have a circular depression above and into the leg (or basket) to accommodate the dome above the bearing. Lastly, we’re talking a steel ball and you talking indentation in a wooden or linoleum floor. So it could work if you can accommodate the possible issues.
