Answer: Probably not. They have to be within a quarter inch or so of each other or some ferrous metal to hold very strongly. I use them to hold down some canvass material against a metal rail but I have to use one disc every foot or so.

Answer: they have a shiny metal outer covering which would be easy to clean. I manage a food store and would think that they would be safe. there in nothing in the packaging about being food grade. they are very fragile and have a dark material inside which is very crumbly and would be a problem if they were cracked or broken. dont let them hit together. Question: What is the actual size?...Anybody counter sink these with forstner bit?...If so, what size bit?..Thanks
Answer: I used a 1.25" forstner bit and it was a fraction too small. Had to carve them out a bit too get the magnets to fit. These claim they're 1.26" in diameter and i believe that's accurate.
Question: Is there a trick for separating them? I struggle to pull them apart
Answer: I found sliding them off one at a time works best. Once you slide one off the top a couple of centimeters, you can separate them by pushing a thin piece of plastic between them - like a guitar pick or a tiddlywink.
Question: Will they work with a 1inch piece of wood between them
Answer: magnetic force dies off at the rate of about 1/r with r raised to the 4th power so the greater the 'r', the distance to the item attracted, then the attraction is reduced by a huge amount... Hold two magnets an inch apart and feel how week the force is between them, either attractive or repulsive, then try bringing them within an 8th of an inch of each other and see how the force increases!
Question: Do they stand up to heat
Answer: I use Neos on oil filters without a problem. Any fine ferrous material in the oil stops there. I use 1" dia x 1/2 thick 45lb pull Neos. (Strong enough to put on a closed steel tool box and pull tools to the top from the top tray inside the tool box.) No noticeable degradation in strength over 30,000 miles (car) 25,000 miles (water cooled motorcycle). As for actual temp, I would suspect much higher temp than what I run them at (180F or so), they would begin to lose their magic.

I have only had the opportunity to use it once since it is a recent purchase but look forward to using it again. When I used mine, I was with someone that had a magnet the size of a brick and that one did pick up more items than mine. For a starter magnet though, this one is good. I gave the other ones in the pack to family members along with 25 ft strings of 113 lb nylon dropline and told them we need to start a private Facebook group to post pictures of what we find, just for fun!

Question: How did they do on magnetic paint
Answer: They are super strong and stick to just about anything - even THROUGH the box. If you are looking for magnets for kids/classrooms, find something less intense. I have to store these in the styrofoam casing and box they came in and stuff STILL sticks to them. They have a special place in my house so they won't interfere with electronics because they are STRONG. But yeah, should be great on magnetic paint. But they are VERY thin and break easily

I believe these magnets could probably manage it as long as the shelf isn’t super skinny materials or aluminum. The I find the name of these magnets to be accurate. Answer: Hmmm, I’m pretty sure that these are N52. Just keep in mind that one disk is not big, so it’s magnetic field will be relatively small. If you combine the disks without any spacers, you will see the force greatly increases to what I believe is appropriate for N52. I have never measured the grade of a magnet, but I know that these are not weak compared to toy magnets.
Question: Has anyone that purchased these used them for diy spice jars? (specifically, is the strength appropriate? ie: not too strong or too weak
Answer: I am going to use these for this purpose. Here's why: a standard ceramic magnet can stick to another magnet with a pretty strong pull, but on a metal surface it is much weaker. These are VERY difficult to pull away from each other, but I imagine it will be much easier to pull a spice jar off the fridge, since the fridge is not a magnet. They also provide enough strength that I am not concerned about a glass spice jar falling off the fridge.

Answer: This greatly depends on the electronic. Phones? You're fine as long as it's a newer phone from the last couple of years. This affected equipment with rotating hard discs. Most electronics these days that use storage will be using SSD which is unaffected by the magnet. It may damage a TV screen if it's literally attached to it. Keep it away from medical equipment but essentially it's okay around most electronics.

Answer: The answer is it depends. Magnets are not attracted to grades of stainless steel that are austenitic (304, 316, etc), therefore these will not work with those types of steel. Magnets are attracted to grades of stainless steel that are martensitic or ferritic (410, 420, 430, 15-5, etc) therefore these will work with those types of steel. I would think that most refrigerators use the less expensive martensitic steels, so these should be good to use for a stainless fridge, but potentially not good for other stainless objects.

Answer: Realistically, 3-4 as long as there's not a breeze around. They would hold 3 $20 bills to my front door, but the money would fall off if the door was opened or closed too hard.

Answer: I'm a seamstress. No, these are very difficult to separate and over an inch wide. You could do this idea with smaller ones, 1/8" - 3/8". No larger than that unless you get regular magnets instead of rare earth type. Encase in the fabric folds, exactly lining up with another on the other side. Would definitely need fabric between one or both sides, no magnets directly touching. I'd suggest getting a variety pack of small sizes, and hold one in each pant leg to test each and see which size stays securely together, but lets you pull apart easily before getting pants altered. Great idea that I'll keep in mind.

Answer: I can tell youhow to find a closed wall thickness. How to find the distance from the finished wall surface to any pipe or conduit running through a stud. The problem is, I don't have any idea what you are try to do. if you are trying to save wall sheets to replace, forget it and demo the thing and put new. Cut your time in half. If it were a mansion with panneling, I would use a deep scan stud sensor. The most expensive sensor will do more things for you, so if you know what you want to do, just buy the cheapest one that does the job. Never themetal detector stud finders. Get a regular/deep scan sensor. You push a button and get a baseline reading of the wall density. Then whateveris over that is a stud. Pipes and conduit run through themiddle of studs and some have protective metal plates if the wood in the stud is too thin after drilling the hole. Knee high is most electrical and light switches are danger areas. Nails are not going to come through 2" foam. It is very dense.
