Answer: I'm not sure if they are lead free, but they are made of grade 5 ceramic and solid strontium ferrite, also I'm not sure if will be a good idea to use it for a toddler play set, they are about the size of a 25¢ coin, they are for sure a choking hazard for a toddler if he gets his hands on them. Question: What is the actual size?...Anybody counter sink these with forstner bit?...If so, what size bit?..Thanks
Answer: I used a 1.25" forstner bit and it was a fraction too small. Had to carve them out a bit too get the magnets to fit. These claim they're 1.26" in diameter and i believe that's accurate.
Question: Is there a trick for separating them? I struggle to pull them apart
Answer: I found sliding them off one at a time works best. Once you slide one off the top a couple of centimeters, you can separate them by pushing a thin piece of plastic between them - like a guitar pick or a tiddlywink.
Question: Will they work with a 1inch piece of wood between them
Answer: magnetic force dies off at the rate of about 1/r with r raised to the 4th power so the greater the 'r', the distance to the item attracted, then the attraction is reduced by a huge amount... Hold two magnets an inch apart and feel how week the force is between them, either attractive or repulsive, then try bringing them within an 8th of an inch of each other and see how the force increases!
Question: Do they stand up to heat
Answer: I use Neos on oil filters without a problem. Any fine ferrous material in the oil stops there. I use 1" dia x 1/2 thick 45lb pull Neos. (Strong enough to put on a closed steel tool box and pull tools to the top from the top tray inside the tool box.) No noticeable degradation in strength over 30,000 miles (car) 25,000 miles (water cooled motorcycle). As for actual temp, I would suspect much higher temp than what I run them at (180F or so), they would begin to lose their magic.

Answer: Probably not. They have to be within a quarter inch or so of each other or some ferrous metal to hold very strongly. I use them to hold down some canvass material against a metal rail but I have to use one disc every foot or so.

Rare earth magnets are the strongest type of permanent magnet currently made. They are amazingly powerful for their size and have innumerable uses. These block magnets are 2.36 inch (60mm) long, 0.40 inch (10mm) wide and 0.20 inch (5mm) thick. They are magnetized through the thickness. They are composed of neodymium iron boron magnetic material and are plated in nickel-copper-nickel for a shiny corrosion resistant finish. Maximum working temperature is 176 F (80 C).



These Neodymium thin rectangular magnets provide an astonishing pull of 33 lbs and every magnet has a triple coating of nickel, copper and nickel again to prevent against corrosion. Our Neodymium magnets are commonly used in creative applications such as model making, theater design, furniture making, exhibition displays and packaging. They also have many uses in engineering and manufacturing where small size and maximum strength are required. What's more, because of their resistance to demagnetisation they are ideal for creating a shock-absorbing or damping effect when used to repel other magnets.

Question: Where are these magnets manufactured
Answer: Yes, these magnets are very strong!
Question: Are the poles at the ends of the bar or one of the larger faces
Answer: These are not traditional bar magnets with opposite poles on the ends of the magnets. The poles are across the center from the short surface (1/2" surface). How they were able to manufacture these magnets is a mystery, and why they chose to do so is even a greater one. However, these magnets are very strong in force and will be useful if you need to secure iron based metals.
Question: are these marked north and south polarity
Answer: They are not marked.
Question: How strong are these, do you have to pull hard to get these detached from the metal they are magnetized to
Answer: It is difficult to quantify amount of force to remove one of these bar magnets from a metal surface but I would say that they are relatively stronger than the average magnet. They are so strong they are difficult to separate from each other. I broke one while separating it from a group of others. I applied these with the adhesive strips to the inside of a stainless table top and use them to attach my griddle tools to the outside of the table top.

Question: what is the strength of these magnets
Answer: stainless steel is non magnetic
Question: Can I use these to attach two non-magnetic surfaces to each other by putting tape on each
Answer: Yes you can, But...... Be careful!!! These magnets are CRAZY Strong!!! I used a doublesided tape, to attach one of them to the rear of my electrical meter. This way it's HANDS FREE!!I just hang it from the side of the metal electrical enclosure when I'm working on the circuits. If you use two magnets you better be careful, they are STRONG!!! Also, don't let two attract to each other with your fingers or skin between!! Ouch, just Ouch. Bottom line, buy them they're fun and useful

Answer: That is a great idea. I have been using the smaller round ones on all my IC engine filters for years. It works - when my Harley fragged a bearing, the filter had tons of particles around the magnets, and remember this was through the filter housing.
