Question:	Does the rack have to be fully retracted to lock? For example, can it be raised half way and lock
Answer:	You can lock it pretty much any height you want. You raise and lower by turning a loop and the lock puts a pin in the loop so it won't turn.
Question:	Do you need to install any lag bolts in the T-bracket section? Directions only show 4 bolts on each of four arms. I want to straddle a metal i-beam
Answer:	Sorry I don't know the answer to that question. I had a handyman install it who has installed it several times. I know he said he used different stronger bolts that were in the original package and said the unit would now hold up to about 300-400 lbs. without worry. You will love it. It's the best solution around.
Question:	my ceiling is about 18 feet in the garage. Can I extend the cables/controls
Answer:	I have 9' ceilings in my garage and the platform lowers to within 18" of the floor. You could add cable to extend the drop to accomodate the added height from the original point. However your highest lift point would be about 7'6" above the floor. I am sure any alterations would void any warranties to the product. On a side note: I have two now and will be ordering at least one more soon. As far as control rod, you will have to extend it to meet your needs. The directions suggest a 1/2 inch drill but I had a local machine shop turn the insert down to fit a 3/8 drill. I might advise you to not use a cordless drill. I personally would consider going a little lighter on the max weight.
Question:	I'm surprised no one mentions that you have to drill ten holes fairly close together in each joist for the lag screws, according to instructions. Ten seems like overkill. Won't this weaken the joist
Answer:	Most ceiling joists are 2x6 and bigger and I have installed two of these lifts on the same joists and have not seen a problem with sagging or splitting of the wood. Considering the lift will hold up to 250 pounds it needs to fastened securely. If you are concerned about your joists being weakened by drilling I'm sure you could come up with a cripple stud solution where a second piece of wood is fastened to the original joists with three bolts and then the lift is screwed into the cripple studs. Still drilling the original joist but only in three places rather the ten.

Answer:	It is not safe to walk under a suspended load. Ever, even under ideal circumstances. It is forbidden by OSHA. If you chose to leave a load suspended by ANY hoist It should be in an area not normally used by people and inspected on a regular basis.

Question:	Are the pulley wheels plastic or metal? It looks similar to a Harbor Freight bike hoist that I have. I am looking for something more heavy duty
Answer:	Hey G.Harder the pulley wheel's are plastic. But this model is rated for heavy object's. I have used mine to hold up my wheelbarrow to open up floor space and have not had any problem's. The only change I made was with the way the rope was secured in the block, instructions say to tie a knot at the end of the rope but I was not satisfied with that so I bought a couple cable clamp's at hardware for $.99 cent's and clamped the rope around one of the mounting bolt's and feel safe working under it now. I'm very happy and satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone looking.

Answer:	? This one is better than the Atwood one. I bought both. Although I prefer the rope that comes with the Atwood one, the Rad is heavier duty and better built in general.
Question:	How long are the straps? Would they go around a Yakima Skybox
Answer:	Each strap is 7 feet long, and the nylon line is very long. I didn't install it yet but it looks very similar to the bike rack that they sell and it is very strong and well made.

Answer:	About 18" max. If you only use the hooksThe kit comes with straps that attach to the hook. With straps at least 24 inches to ceiling I have 8 foot garage ceiling. By attaching to straps -one end to loop other end to loop holding buckle I can get 6 feet between floor & bottom of kayak If you can't attach kayak to hooks only. You need to play with with harness straps to get max height.

Answer:	I would think so. Just have to make sure the ropes are done right and when you pull it up off your Jeep make sure its going to life it all at the same time. may need to get longer rope. Depending on how tall the angled ceiling is.

Question:	I have rafters rather than joists so I don't have anything parallel to the floor. Can the pulley's be mounted on rafter angles
Answer:	I think you could do that. The way the roping through the pully's works you have one rope end that controls one pulley and the other controls the other pulley. Once you have your strap ends set at the same level you should be able to hoist up and down by pulling on both ropes with the same tension.
Question:	how far do the pulleys hang down from the ceiling
Answer:	Depends on how you mount it, but it's not even the pulleys that are the problem as much as the hooks—they're very long. I threw out all my measurements, but the pulleys can be cinched up to about 6-inches from the ceiling when directly mounted, meaning NOT using the provided brackets that would hang them lower. I have a 10' ceiling and 17' boats that needed to hang above the garage door when open. To squeeze them in, I directly mounted the pulleys to the ceiling, which required taking the pulleys apart, which aren't designed to come apart, so I had to drill out the riveted axles and replace them with clevis pins. For the traveling pulleys, I had to do the same, but so that I could set a pair of low profile shackles inside the provided bracket instead of using the long hooks (see my review). On top of that, I have the straps as tight around the boats as I can get them.
Question:	Anyone use anything to keep straps from spreading besides the string across the hooks? I want to avoid the horror stories of the kayak slipping out
Answer:	Yes. The bottom of my kayaks are very slick and I had one strap slip while lifting one day. I have 10-foot kayaks. My pulleys are 6-feet apart. I tied a 6-foot piece of string on the straps under the kayaks so they don’t spread. I’ve had no problem since.
Question:	Does a 2 pack mean enough mounts to hang one or two kayaks
Answer:	2 pack means you can hang two kayaks. I just received mine but haven't installed them yet. But did open the package and there 2 full sets to hang 2 kayaks. Steve

Question:	How to make this waterproof
Answer:	Equipment is waterproof or it is not. This is not. However, depending upon your application, you can set the unit in to a PVC box of your creation keeping it from direct rainfall and plastic bag the remote or some reasonable facsimile. Grease the cable periodically and spray the unit with silicone. It should also be plugged into a GFI outlet. Good Luck.

Answer:	I used two 2x4’s , one each on opposite ceiling joist. Used lag bolts to install. I also used a unistrut , attaching to the 2x4’s. I have a finished ceiling. Get 2 ratchet straps to attach to hoist hook. Be careful will have to play with it, to get top balanced. Good luck

Answer:	It's not designed for that but yes. it has a brake built into it. I have a solid steel 300lb ladder that i store in the upright position using this winch. No issues. It is also faster than expected. I"ll be purchasing a few more.

Answer:	Forgive me if I am mistaken, but you'll never hear the fan. If it is making a lot of noise and will not lift, "YES" there's a problem. The fan simply moves at a low frequency to move a small amount of air through the crane armature housing. The rest of the heat is dissipated by the metal "heat sink fins" on the housing around the armature. Something to think about: Just about ALL powerful hoist cranes of this type are designed for lifting huge loads for a certain amount of time and height before it stops to cool off. However, I have never experienced this because my "duty cycle time" requirements never go beyond how long it takes me to lift; the same for lowering my load/object. I wonder if the crane has ever worked at all. I also wonder if it's getting moisture inside or outside. Hope this helps. Sorry, if it does not.

Answer:	I’m not sure what your asking but offer this. It comes with a hook and also a pulley/hook combo as shown in the picture. If you intent to use it single line you leave the combo unit off. If you wish to use the double line you connect the single hook to a hole on the upper frame and install the pulley hook. Single operation is half the double line capacity of the hoist. Side note, I have two of these and they have been stellar so far.
