User questions & answers
Question: | Because of the great suction has anyone noticed that their medium to high pile carpets are getting worn or fuzzy |
Answer: | This vacuum works on all types of flooring: laminate, tile, wood, marble, travertine, etc. I have never had a problem with it scratching. |
Question: | Can the brush roll be turned off |
Answer: | I ordered the $24.99 blue version. I honestly can not say why there's a price difference between the 3 models offered as they, to me, appear to be the same in all respects but color when I study their photos (noticing that the listed attributes do not change at all between models). I can say that I am so very pleased with my $24.99 / blue vacuum because it does exactly what I bought it for (tiled floors &low pile throw rugs) and taking advantage of the hand-held changeability is huge (***** great at sussing "stuff" out of cracks between stove & cabinetry, and snatching creepy-crawlies off the ceiling) |
Question: | How a about pet hair |
Answer: | It looks like it should stand up to a number of gentle light cleaning/brush-offs and several washes, but it would be convenient to have at least one spare, so I can use that while the other one is drying. Be careful, there are a number of Bissell featherweight vacuums, and they take different filters. Bissell part number 1611508 is hard to find, but with the part number in hand, I found my local vacuum repair shop was able to order it ($4.99, no s&h), and I was able to order it from Bissell.com ($3.75 +$5.95 s&h) and partswarehouse.com ($4.99 & $5.98 S&h) |
Question: | What is the difference between the "standard brush roll" and the "gentle brush roll" on this model? I have tile, carpet, & wood floors |
Answer: | No, there is no roller brush. It just has an opening for suction. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How does the Roller work on carpet and can I lift the roller up |
Answer: | The roller works great on carpet. No you cannot lift the roller up. |
Question: | Hi, I just purchased this vacuum, what is the correct filter replacement for this vacuum |
Answer: | There are about three filtration systems in the Shark. The replacement schedule varies for each filter. Most of the filters can be rinsed, dried and replaced. The premotor filter should be replaced every year. The post motor filter should be replaced every 3 years. Replace the HEPA filter yearly. This is probably the most important one. You don't want to discharge dust back into the air. In this case I believe in using only Shark filters. There are a lot of pretenders out there. The web site is sharkclean.com. I recommend it. You Old Geezer |
Question: | Current Shark clogs all the time with pet hair--needs frequent cleaning. How does this model compare |
Answer: | Not nearly as much as my older Shark. However, pet hair does tend to collect in the pinion mounts of the front roller and it will stop that roller until the hair is cleared - will happen about every 3 months if used 3-4 times weekly. We have a Goldie and a tabby cat. The Golden's fur is not a problem. It is the fine hair from the cat that gets into the very small pinion points. |
Question: | How do the fins compare to regular brush roller? If they’re just plastic, Could they break off |
Answer: | The plastic on the roller is rather supple. It's not a hard plastic that might easily break off. And by the way, I love this vacuum. It has amazing suction, and the roller seems to polish hard floors. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it pick up paper clips |
Answer: | no, YOU pick up the paper clips..vacuums are not made for picking up paper clips.. |
Question: | How do you clean the filter |
Answer: | There is a HEPA filter in front of the vacuum, you lift the door from the bottom and you can take it out and wash it. and then you lift the canister out from the base ( like you're emptying the canister of dirt.) You will find 2 foam filters there. lift them both out and wash those too. Just dont throw in washing machine or dishwasher. I use dish detergent and wash them off in the sink. Just make sure they are completely dry before putting them back on the vacuum. After a dozen or so washings they will break down ( you will know this ) extra filters can be purchased on EBay or Amazon or other websites. I usually clean the foam filters when they are a very dark brown or gray color, then i also wash the HEPA filter also. Good luck! Here a PDF file that tells you all about the shark vacuum .Page 13 & 14 tell you how to clean the filters . http://prcind.com/user_manuals/NV351-FS.pdf |
Question: | What is the difference between Shark NV 352 and the NV |
Answer: | The 352 has a 25 foot cord, the 356 (professional) is 30', the hard floor tools are different. The 356 has a microfiber 'dust pad' that goes over the hardwood floor attachment. The 352's hard floor attachment has a 'V' shape to funnel debris no pad, but it does have a duster attachment both available to purchase separately. The dust cup on the 356 is larger and the overall machine is 2 lbs heavier then the 352. 356 also comes with a bag for the tools where my 352 did not. The other tools all appear to be the same on both models. They both run the same amps and can be converted into canister mode as well, but are aesthetically different. |
Question: | Why is the little rectangle on the side sucking in so much air and causing it not to work |
Answer: | I can answer that question specifically because it happened to me and caused me to give this vacuum an erroneously poor review. My shark lasted for just under four years and was amazing. THEN it started sucking air like crazy though that rectangle and suction dropped by 80%. I did everything to fix it ... cleaned all the filters, checked all the hoses ... nothing fixed it. I was about to put it to the curb for the garbage man when something told me to check it out one last time. Well to make a long story short ... if you open your dust canister, there is a conical thing in the middle with mesh screen sides. That mesh was clogged with dust/dirt. On a hunch I cleaned it with a toothbrush (extremely difficult and awkward job) and guess what? The suction is back 100% and my Shark is back like when it brand was new. NOTE WELL. NOWHERE in the manual does it suggest that this area should be cleaned. I hope this answer is not too late for you. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will the 360 work on thick pile carpeting |
Answer: | I had a problem with my plush carpeting. The suction was so much it was hard to push. WOW, there is an adjustable collar to reduce the suction. Works great. |
Question: | is the shark navigator lift-away delux self propelled |
Answer: | ANY vacuum with a beater brush can be adjusted to be easier to use on the carpet. Start with the cleaner on the carpet you want to clean, with the head raised as high as it will go. Turn it on and start to lower the brush head slowly, one click at a time. You will hear the tone change when the brush makes contact with the carpet. Drop it one or two more clicks until you hear the tone of the brush head get noticeably lower as it pushes hard against the carpet. Then take it back up one click. That will be an optimal height for cleaning and the brush head will actually help propel the unit as you clean; more of an assist vs. self propelled. |
Question: | We have only had our vacuum for a few weeks, and it smells like dog when we turn it on. What can we do |
Answer: | No No No Lol, do not use soap it will ruin the filter faster, it gets stuck in the micro fibers, I repair vacuums and Steamers and hear and see this all the time, wash filters w water only let dry 24 to 48 hrs, drying in sun is fine, completely dry before putting back in you can use a scent tabs on the side top of the filter, also you can spray Lysol or disinfectant on the carpet {test small area to make sure no stain} and run the vacuum over it, and of course new filters, recommended every 2 years, if you have pets or kids or both every year, if cleaning service more often |
Question: | What is the difference between the Shark NV356E and the Shark |
Answer: | Hi Madeline. I did a brief review of the nv356e at the Amazon site, compared to the 360 (which I own). The 356e claims to have a 9.5" vacuum path, while the 360 is 11". The 360 is 15 or so lbs, the 356e is 14 lbs. It appears the technology and mechanical functioning of the models are nearly identical. Attachments are also similar. I own two of the 360s, which I bought from Target. I'm very happy with them. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the vacuum come with any attachments? It doesn't look like if from the picture here |
Answer: | Currently I have not used any accessories. I just use it as a floor vacuum, so I had to go looking for the accessories that came with it. I may not have found every single one that came with it, but I think I did, so the short answer: it comes with at least 5 attachments and a floor caddy. They are as follows: Dusting Brush (1185FC500), 12 inch Crevice Tool (X11FC500), Large Power Brush (X13FC500), Multi-Angle Dusting Brush (X15FC500), Straight Suction Floor Nozzle (XSN500), and finally the Canister Caddy (X16FC500). For more information (like what these parts actually look like as if you are like me you have no idea what the name of each part technically is) on these parts go to http://www.sharkclean.com/rotator/professional-lift-away-nv500/parts-and-accessories/. |
Question: | is it light weight |
Answer: | That's difficult to answer as it's all relative. It seems light to me, but it might not to you. It weighs in at about 1 lb more than the comparable Dyson, so some might say its heavy. I don't pick mine up a whole lot, so 1 lb isn't a deal breaker for me. It weighs about 15 lbs. Your call on if that's light or heavy. |
Question: | What about the filters? The infomercial never mentions them as far as need for cleaning, replacement, or ease of removing and cleaning |
Answer: | We don't have this model, but do have a similar (cheaper) Navigator Lift-away model that recommends cleaning the filter every 3 months. We use it to vacuum a small professional office and an 1800-square foot home once a week. I clean the filter in warm water every 1-2 weeks as the foam one, especially, gets very dirty/dusty. It doesn't take long, but they do have to dry before next use so I usually do it the night before I vacuum, absorb excess water on a towel-rag, then leave to dry overnight. I'd rather wash it than tap it out as another user suggested because the I don't want the dust to fly everywhere after I went to the trouble of vacuuming. The HEPA filter to be cleaned every 12 months takes a lot longer to dry (few days) but that's ok since we clean it so rarely. |
Question: | What is the difference between the navigator and the rotator |
Answer: | I own the Rotator but have no experience with the Navigator. Googling comparisons though the main difference seems to be that the Rotator can be turned into a canister vacuum where the Navigator can only be an upright vacuum. For a more extensive comparison here are a couple links to webpages I found useful in answering your question:http://socialcompare.com/en/comparison/shark-nav-vs-rotator-models-1fw7ntxohttp://www.sharkvacuums.net/compare-shark-nv350-vs-rotator-nv500/ |

User questions & answers
Question: | How does the rocket stick vac work on hardwood and for dusting |
Answer: | Seems to work well with both the wheel equipped motorized head at low spin speed and the hardwood floor pad attachment tool. Pad can quickly get pretty dirty, requiring washing. |
Question: | Is it cordless |
Answer: | No it is has cord not cordless and I like it anyway :) and I wish it is cordless lol but it is not.. |
Question: | Can you use it as a short hand held |
Answer: | Monika, Yes you can definitely use it as a short handheld vacuum! It is modular in design. Just the power sweeper, the extension pipe, and the power head/canister. Just plug the power head/canister directly into the power sweeper and you are good to go! By the way...after you unpack all the components from the shipping carton, it takes about 5 minutes to put together and you are ready to vacuum. I am physically challenged and I use the vacuum the way I described and I can vacuum my carpets from a motorized chair with no problem. I did contact Shark and made a suggestion to make a shorter extension to go between the power sweeper head and the power head/canister to make it easier to vacuum from a seated position. I hope this answers your question. I certainly like mine! |
Question: | I was considering the Dyson DC44 cordless that seems similar to this. Anyone that might have used/seen both see any big difference in them |
Answer: | You can't go wrong with the Shark Rocket. Best vacuum I've ever owned or used for so many reasons. I think the Dyson brand is highly over-rated. |

Question: | What tools come with this vacuum |
Answer: | Hello Muzzy, We would like to inform you that the Shark® Navigator® Upright Vacuum with Lift-Away, Zero-M™ Anti-Hair Wrap Technology includes the Duster Crevice Tool, Hair Removal Multi-Tool, and the Wide Upholstery Tool. We hope this information helps. Helpful Shark |
Question: | Do you need to push a button to go from carpet to hardwood |
Answer: | There is a switch, but this is misleading because the only difference btwn the hardwood and carpet setting is how fast the beater bar spins. SHark does not fully, accurately describe this in their product description but the beater bar cannot be turned off or raised to keep it from scratching hardwoods. Very frustrating, actually. |
Question: | What filters does the zu561 take |
Answer: | Hello ANDREW S., We would like to inform you that the Shark® Navigator® Upright Vacuum with Lift-Away and Zero-M™ Technology has a set of pre-motor filters and a HEPA filter. The pre-motor filters include a foam filter and a felt filter. The filters for this vacuum are washable by rinsing them under warm tap water until the water runs clear. We suggest to let the air dry for at least 24 hours before putting them back in the vacuum. If you would like to order an additional set, we ask that you reach out to Shark® Customer Care at 877-581-7375. Representatives are available Mon.-Fri. 9am - 9pm ET | Sat. 9am - 6pm ET. We hope this information helps. Helpful Shark |
Question: | This model gets good reviews for keeping pet hair out of the beater brush. How about long human hair |
Answer: | Yes, Yes, Yes. Long haired wife, long haired dog, long haired cat. Vacuumed a rug that had more hair than fiber. Brush was clean as a whistle. I was hoping new hair-clipping rotor would work half-way, it worked the whole way. My old Shark roller would have been a solid hairball after the two rugs i vacuumed the other day. The new guy was clean... and so were the rugs. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Where is the filter? i hope i do not have to buy this for a new machine just received |
Answer: | When you tap the button to empty the vacuum you will see an area with an indentation that tells you to "slide to access filter". You slide it forward and lift it out. At the opposite end of the mesh screen, you will see an orange ring (the filter) with a wire handle. It pulls right out. The filter is paper so we vacuum it off with another hand held vacuum. You could probably wipe it down or gently brush it with a soft brush. Would not get it wet! Your vacuum comes with the filter. Do not know if it would be available from Shark separately or not so would use caution when cleaning. |
Question: | What is the voltage |
Answer: | Hello Mirabelle C., We are happy to help you with your request. The battery voltage for the Shark ION™ W1 Cordless Handheld Vacuum (WV201) is 10.8 volts. We hope this information helps. Helpful Shark |

Answer: | Hello A, We are happy to assist you with this. The Shark ION™ W1 Handheld Vacuum can run for approximately 9.5 minutes on a full charge. This great vacuum takes approximately 2.5 hours to fully charge from empty. We recommend putting the vacuum back on the charger after each use for optimal runtime. We hope this information helps. User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference between this and the AZ1000W |
Answer: | Hello Amazon Customer, We are happy to assist you with your inquiry. There are a couple of main differences between the Shark Navigator® Zero-M® Self-Cleaning Brushroll Pet Pro (ZU62) Upright Vacuum and the Shark® APEX® Upright Vacuum with DuoClean® Zero-M® Powered Lift-Away®, AZ1000W. The first is that the AZ1000W has the DuoClean® Technology. This features a bristle brush to deep clean carpets and an additional soft brushroll to pull in larger particles and directly engage floors for a polished look. The other difference is that the AZ1000W is a Powered Lift-Away®. This allows you to remove the canister and still have power to the floor nozzle. Both vacuum have the Zero-M™ Anti-Hair Wrap Technology. We hope this information helps. Helpful Shark |
Question: | Does the fact that this has anti hair wrap still mean it sweeps just as well as regular kinds? The brush looks very different |
Answer: | Perhaps you will need to hear from someone who has had their vacuum longer, but I was amazed at the amount of dust and cat hair this vacuum picks up, both on hard floors and on carpets, which are different settings. On hard floors you can see the suction as the hair and dust move away from the wall into the vacuum. My old vacuum didn't do that. Vacuuming carpets stands the fibers up, and the carpet looks not only cleaner but newer. As advertised, the anti-hair wrap works, with a clean brush when I finish. Great performance so far. |
Question: | Does this have a brush roll on and off switch |
Answer: | There is a switch to go from hard floors to carpet, but the brush roll still spins- at two different speeds. Slower for hard floors. I do not see a way to turn off the brush roll. |
Question: | Whats the difference between nv752, nv251 and the zu |
Answer: | Hello JN, We are happy to assist you with your inquiry. The NV752 is from our Rotator® series. The NV251 and ZU62 are from our Navigator® series. the NV751 is a Powered Lift-Away®. This allows you to remove the main body of the unit from the vacuum and still have power to the brushroll. The Zu62 is equipped with the Zero-M® Technology. Zero-M® removes long hair, short hair, and pet hair from the brushroll. The unique bristle guard and comb work together to separate hair from the brushroll and send it straight to the dust cup. We also want to inform you that each of these vacuums include different accessories. The NV752 includes the Upholstery Tool, 11" Crevice Tool, and the TruePet® Mini Motorized Brush. The NV251 includes the Pet Multi-Tool and 5.5" Crevice Tool. The ZU62 includes the Duster Crevice Tool, Upholstery Tool, and the Dusting Brush. We hope this information helps. Helpful Shark |
