First Alert Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Detector Alarm | Battery Operated, SCO5CN

FIRST ALERT

Based on 14 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The First Alert SCO5CN Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm features dual sensors to detect both smoke and carbon monoxide in a single device. A photoelectric sensor detects the smoke most often produced by smoldering fires, and minimizes false alarms from cooking smoke or shower steam. Additionally, the advanced electrochemical CO sensor detects carbon monoxide leaks from multiple sources, such as faulty fuel burning appliances, blocked chimneys, and generators running inside or too close to homes. A loud, 85 decibel siren alerts you to the threat; unique alarm sounds and indicator lights on its face distinguish a smoke warning from a carbon monoxide warning. This carbon monoxide and smoke detector is battery operated, so you don't need an electrician for installation. Requiring just two AA batteries and featuring an easy access battery compartment for quick changes, this smoke and carbon monoxide detector has a single button that allows you to silence a false alarm or test the unit.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America, yet many people don't know they are suffering from CO poisoning until its too late. Since symptoms of CO poisoning are like the flu, you might not even know you're in danger at first. That's why a carbon monoxide alarm is an excellent way to protect your family. It can detect the CO you can't see, smell or taste in the air.

The First Alert SCO5CN carbon monoxide and smoke alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor-the most accurate technology available. The alarm uses photoelectric smoke sensing technology which is environmentally friendlier and which reduces nuisance alarms, making it ideal for cooking areas. It is also great for sensing slow smoldering fires quickly. The permanent sensors last the lifetime of the alarm. The test/silence button both silences a non-threatening alarm or low battery warning and allows you to test the unit's functionality. A low battery signal alerts you to replace the battery and end-of-life alarm of three chirps alerts you to replace the unit. Two AA batteries are included. 5-year limited warranty. UL listed. Not available for sale in Massachusetts.--Bree Norlander

User questions & answers

Question: pack is $30, 2 pack is $90. Why is a two pack so much? I thought the idea was to incentivize more product at a lower cost. This is halarious
Answer: I no longer live in the apartment where I replaced the old smoke alarm, but you will love this one. It's so nice to flip the battery holder down and not have to remove the battery from the unit.
Question: Advice on false alarms? Goes off every week or so. It's in our kitchen/living room, but goes off even when we are not cooking. Goes 1 min then stops
Answer: No
Question: I have these througout my house and rental unit. Installed them about 7 years ago and many malfunctioning. Any durability mprovments since 7 yrs ago
Answer: The instructions that come with the unit duplicate what I have read from several Fire Department sources: you can place your unit on the ceiling, but AT LEAST 4 inches (10cm) from the wall. If you want to mount it on the wall, mount it MORE THAN 4 inches (10cm) BELOW the ceiling, but NO LOWER than12 inches (30cm) below the ceiling. It has to be high enough up the wall to "smell" the smoke, but that 4 x 4 inch (10cm x 10cm) area where the wall meets the ceiling can sometimes harbor a "dead zone" of still air where the smoke would NOT reach the detector quickly enough during a fire to warn you in time. Thus, do NOT mount your detectors too close to where the wall meets the ceiling.
Question: How long do batteries last
Answer: Ionization type. I actually looked at at manual to be certain.

Advanced Technology in an Easy-to-Install, Plug-In Design

Designed for home use, the Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk is a UL-listed, A/C-powered, plug-in CO alarm that utilizes sophisticated electronic components and sensor technology to protect you and your family from the dangers of CO. It plugs directly into a standard A/C outlet and includes a 9-volt battery backup that provides continuous monitoring of CO levels--even during power outages.

About Carbon Monoxide: The Silent Killer

The leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in North America, carbon monoxide (CO) is often referred to as the silent killer because it's odorless, tasteless, and invisible. Carbon monoxide poisoning can come about via a number of sources, including everyday items and appliances in your home or office. And because symptoms of CO poisoning mimic the flu or other common illnesses it can often go undiagnosed.

Audible Alarm Pattern Alerts you to Elevated CO Levels

When placed on every level of your home, alarms like the KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk can help protect everyone in the house from CO exposure by giving you an unmistakable signal when levels have reached an unhealthy point. If unhealthy levels are detected, the alarm will emit four quick audible beats every five seconds until either levels decrease or the reset button is pressed.

Easy-to-Read Digital Display Shows CO Levels

The KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk is unique among traditional CO alarms because of its digital display. This display clearly shows levels of CO that the unit has detected and stored-- from 30 to 999 ppm--and it updates every 15 seconds to indicate any abrupt changes or alarming trends. The display also shows the peak CO level recorded by the alarm since it was last reset or unplugged.

LED Shows Sensor Status

With the KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk, you never have to wonder if the sensor is functioning properly. A blinking dot in the lower right-hand corner of the display denotes normal operation, so you can trust that it's working. In addition, you can test alarm function by pressing the test/reset button at any time to verify that the horn and electric circuitry are operating properly.

Convenient Mounting Options

The KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk has a low-profile design that makes it suitable for any room in your home. The detector can be plugged into any standard A/C outlet; it's plug can be snapped into the back of the unit and can be rotated so the alarm remains vertical, independent of whether the electrical socket is mounted vertically or horizontally. In addition, the alarm comes with a 6-foot extension cord, so the unit can be plugged into the wall outlet and then placed on a table or shelf. For the most thorough protection, place an alarm on every level of your home.

The UL-listed Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk has a seven-year life and is backed by a five-year limited warranty.

User questions & answers

Question: My home is old. from 1930. i have a oil bolier. use this to heat home for winter, and to have hot water. can this be used, for my home
Answer: I used mine to control one of the zones on my gas-fired hot water heat boiler. It was a two-wire installation. You might check the back of your existing thermostat to see how many wires go to it. If it is two-wire, it should work.
Question: Is this thermostat compatible with a multivolt system? (Yes, multivolt
Answer: Hi there, the CT50K thermostat works with 24 VAC systems. - Maria
Question: Will this work with gas furnace from1960s controlled by old itt thermostat (model #t80bv100j) that says "for use with millivolt 12vdc/24vac .06 amps
Answer: I'm using it on a gas fireplace with low voltage wiring, so I would think it would work. I have to say, though, that these things don't last very long. We have ours in use perhaps 6 months during the day (at best,) and after about two years they need fiddling to activate flames. Something in the switches loses sensitivity - I know, not real scientific. When this third one I've bought finally craps out, I'm seeking a different make and model. Too bad ... it looks so nice and unobtrusive on the wall
Question: can a double pole thermostat be used where a single pole was installed
Answer: Yes just hook your poles up in parallel.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you remove the back plate and just use the 3" X 3" thermostat? It is going on top of a 1 X 4 trim board
Answer: Hi there, The Honeywell CT30A1005 does not require the back plate with install. Hope this helps!
Question: is this a 2 wire connection
Answer: yes 2 wire, but be careful...no off switch even though picture may show one.
Question: I have 3 wires,This thermostat has only connections for 2 wires. Can I still use it
Answer: This will depend on your situation. If you are just trying to use it for turning on and off a heat source, then it should work just fine. Follow the instructions carefully. Even though you have 3 wires, I'm guessing one of the 3 is not being used. Follow the wire to the other end and see if all 3 wires are hooked up. If there are only 2 hooked up, those same 2 wires will be what you use at the stat. The stat is just like a light switch, just lower voltage. Power will come from your transformer, through the stat, then to the device control you want to turn on. If you have a unique situation and need more help, you can take some pictures and describe your application and send them to me at [email protected] and I will do my best to help you out.
Question: will this work with a 750 mV system
Answer: Didn't work for my Millivolt-only, no external power, Empire wall heater. Had to buy a Reed Switch to replace this. See my review 11/13/2020.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have an on-off switch
Answer: This is just a simple thermostat that turns on when the temperature reaches the point at which you set it, and stays on until the temperature drops below that set point.
Question: Will this unit operate on a 12 volt RV electrical system without the aaa batteries installed? Will the display be readable
Answer: This means do not connect a variable speed control to the motor. The motor must run at full speed and only controlled by the thermostat.
Question: Can this be used for Gas Fireplace
Answer: Come on. At temperature range 60° to120°, you set the "fan on" to cool your whatever. HOWEVER! YOU DO NOT WANT your house fan on if there is a FIRE as it will create a chimney effect and make things exponentially worse so at 183° just before where stuff like wood starts to oxidize and combust (burn), it shuts off so you don't blame (and sue) them because YOU left a romantic candle burning and toasted your bedroom.
Question: Are you able to set the min and max temps, like a min of 50 degrees and max of 68 degrees
Answer: As the temperature increases in the attic the contact closes and the fan starts. So far mine works fine.

Question: Will this replace the thermopile in my vermont castings pilot assembly part no 55465 for a ruvsod model. most companies sell the whole thing for
Answer: This unit is 750mv output. It's main element is 9mm dia. by 40mm lg. It has a sleeve adapter to increase the dia. to 10mm and also has a groove at the bottom which will accommodate a clip ring. The main element housing has a tube nut to thread into the pilot housing or bracket. There is also a spring ring clip to use as a mounting retainer. The unit is very universal and should fit a variety of pilot assemblies. The leads are 35" lg. Hope this helps.
Question: Will it work on Heatilator model GCDC60 gas fireplace, Thermopile part no
Answer: I looked on conversion (back of packaging) I do not see that part no. listed. However I installed on mine and it was not listed either, (close to another number) So I can not confirm. I think if the shape is similar, it will fit your application. I am not an expert, but the 600/750 millivolt will most likely work electrically as that appears to be the industry standard. So I would not fear that, it really comes down to the hold device, and I suspect this will fit most applications there too. It has worked excellent for me.
Question: I have a Heat N Glow GES 100 NG. FSP # is -Thermopile 2103-512. Is this comparable to the HNG Part
Answer: We do have a Heat n Glow fireplace and this part did work and fit properly. I hope that is what you were asking.
Question: Will this item replace G01A
Answer: What is a G01A-530? If a G01A-530 is a thermopile 750 millivolt and the leads are approximately the same length then yes it should work. I'm not familiar with a G01A-530 so I can not say for sure.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this fit whirlpool water heater bfg13030s3nov
Answer: Not familiar with the Whirlpool water heater model, but if it is a "standing pilot" (pilot light is always on, as opposed to an intermittent pilot which is electrically ignited only when there is a call for heating) water heater with a 1/4 inch gas valve connection for the sensor (thermocouple), this should work.
Question: Will this fit honeywell model #640lort 301 water heater
Answer: I wouldn't know, but when I needed one; I just kind of got a couple of them in case my coil goes out another time and I have an extra on hand. I needed a heating coil for my propane water heater here in Hawaii and I got one of these, hooked it up and it has been working flawlessly for some years now and I have an extra on hand just in case it is needed. Good luck with your project, I just threw all my coins in and it worked out great for me. I hope this was any help to your ventures....
Question: Will this fit whirlpool water heater bfg13030s3nov
Answer: Unfamiliar with this unit and it may be an intermittent pilot rather than a standing pilot which the Honeywell part is made for.
Question: Honeywell thermastat for amanda 95 iiq gas furnace
Answer: The gas valve "should" have a common size thermocouple fitting. I've never seen thermocouples for sale for different size gas fittings.
