User questions & answers
Question: | Made in |
Answer: | Morningstar controllers are manufactured in a fully automated world-class ISO 9001 facility in Taiwan. |
Question: | I'm a novice. How would this item be used in conjunction with an ALEKO® 90W 90-Watt Monocrystalline Solar Panel? Thanks |
Answer: | I am using a 100watt panel made by Global ICP. Is your panel 12volt output? It must be for this charger. The actual output will be higher but not over 24, which is the next stage up. My panel puts out 19.5 volts directly. If you have a muilti meter, check the output voltage if you do not know.Best to look around and get a book on solar. Plenty available. Learning first will help prevent mishaps or damage to your expensive equipment. |
Question: | What's the maximum size panel I can use with this controller |
Answer: | Well its a 10 amp controller at 12 volts so if you use ohms law, Volts Times Amps, says about 120 Watts. I have got 2 60 watt panels connected to mine and it works fine. |
Question: | Do I need to run my load through the controller, or can it go directly to battery? What are the advantages of running through the controller |
Answer: | I'm afraid several have misunderstood the question. Without a low-voltage disconnect, the load connections on the controller are provided merely for connection convenience. It should be the same as connecting your load directly to the battery. There is no low-voltage protection either way. Unless you purchase the unit that contains the LVD |

User questions & answers
Question: | Where does power get connected to this device? (out+) (out-) ? shouldn't that be in+ and in- ? and how many volts can it take? send a setup diagram |
Answer: | You can see the instruction from the 7th,8th and 9th pictures of the product, just put your mouse to the Roll over image to zoom in and then click image to open expanded view, and the voltage is 12V |
Question: | Does this disconnect itself, too, to reduce battery load to zero? I need to keep from destroying my gell cell. Or suggest a variant of this |
Answer: | Ideally, A safety disconnect device such as this should be powered by an external or auxilliary power source. It should not be powered by the same power source its protecting for this exact reason. A capacitor or an independent battery pack, such as a 3S RC Lipo would suffice. It wouldnt have to be very big either. Current draw should be around 50mA. A 500mA battery would last a month of sundays. Building a circuit with which to keep this battery charged during normal operation could be done with 2 modules and 4 wires. Then the entire failsafe function would be completely autonomous and maintenance-free with a full umbrella of protection. |
Question: | What do the terminals labels "On-SW" do, and how does that interact with the board operation |
Answer: | The terminals labels "On-SW" is a mandatory startup interface and can be connected to a mandatory start switch. hope to do business with you |
Question: | I must be blind, but i can't find the voltage ranges. does anyone know what they are? i need disconnect at about 12.8v and reconnect at about 13.9v |
Answer: | For lead acid battery Charging voltage around 13.8V Fully charged battery without charger on 12.5V Fully discharged battery without charger on 10.5V, drawing voltage down below this will start to cause the battery damage. The ranges described here seem odd. Would disconnect a fully charged battery and not reconnect when charging voltage is applied. Maybe your application has nothing to do with a battery and you are using this for some switching application. Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do you have 48v victron battery protect |
Answer: | I see one now. Victron does make one. |
Question: | For an rv, i want to protect my "house battery". can i use only one victron on that battery. what setting |
Answer: | The setting depends on your battery chemistry, LiFePO4, AGM, etc. Depending on your voltage and power usage, you would want to pick the correct model specific to your usage. If nothing else, this could be used on your frequently used devices if you're in your RV all the time, like lights. That way you know to be cautious of your usage beyond that point, when your lights go out, but leave your essential devices connected with a hard disconnect switch. |
Question: | Does it come with a cover |
Answer: | It does not. If it's for an outdoor application, it would need to be housed in a weatherproof enclosure along with the batteries. |
Question: | I have forklift battery 24 volt setup 480 amp what's the number would you recommend to set it up shut down |
Answer: | This can not be used on a forklift. You will need a contactor (relay) capable of handling the full load of the motor, probably many hundreds of amps. That said, the BatteryProtect can trigger a remote relay, but that function would be better accomplished with a battery monitor, like the Victron BMV-700, also connected to a large relay. The battery monitor can also be set to alarm when the battery gets low. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the battery bank have to be 24v or will it charge a 12v bank |
Answer: | battery bank has to be 24 or 48V. can not charge 12V bank. |
Question: | Does this include a dc to ac inverter? it looks like it from the pictures but i wanted to be sure |
Answer: | the picture is showing how it works. But the price not include inverter. |
Question: | Can i buy the turbine without the controller |
Answer: | yes. turbine can be sold without controller. |
Question: | Does this turbine put out the rated power or do you need a tornado to come by to make power |
Answer: | I would not recommend this Turbine to anyone, not because of it's performance. I ordered this thing and three weeks late on delivery, I received it and it looked like the turbine and its shipping container looked like it had been dropped from the airplane it came over her on. The turbine was damaged and when I told them I would not accept it like that the manufacturer wanted me to try and fix the bent fins with a hammer. I told them what they could do with their turbine and it took another two weeks to get a return shipping paper. |
