14 best steel nails
Steel nails are commonly used fasteners in various construction and industrial applications. They are a type of fastener designed for securing two or more objects together by penetrating the materials and holding them in place. Here's some information about steel nails:
Material: Steel nails are typically made from various types of steel, including carbon steel and stainless steel. The choice of steel type depends on the specific application and the desired properties of the nail, such as strength and corrosion resistance.
Types of Steel Nails:
- Common Nails: These are the most widely used type of steel nail. They have a smooth, cylindrical shaft and a flat, tapered head. Common nails are suitable for general-purpose applications in woodworking, framing, and construction.
- Finish Nails: Finish nails have a smaller diameter and a finer finish, making them suitable for applications where the nail head should be inconspicuous, such as in trim work and cabinetry.
- Roofing Nails: Roofing nails have large, flat heads with a short shank. They are designed for securing roofing materials, such as shingles and roofing felt, to roofs.
- Concrete Nails: These nails have a hardened steel construction and are designed for fastening objects to concrete or masonry surfaces.
- Brad Nails: Brad nails are thin, small-gauge nails used in delicate woodworking and finish carpentry projects.
Length and Gauge: Steel nails come in various lengths and gauges (diameters) to suit different applications. Longer nails with a thicker gauge are used for heavier-duty tasks, while shorter and thinner nails are suitable for lighter work.
Point Types: Steel nails can have different point types depending on their intended use. Common point types include diamond points, chisel points, and blunt points.
Coatings: To enhance corrosion resistance and improve holding power, steel nails may be coated with various materials, such as galvanized coatings (electroplated or hot-dip) or other rust-resistant finishes.
Application: Steel nails are used in a wide range of applications, including framing, carpentry, roofing, flooring, fencing, and more. They are essential in the construction industry and are also used in DIY and home improvement projects.
Installation: Steel nails are typically driven into materials using a hammer, nail gun, or other suitable tools. Proper installation requires selecting the right nail type, length, and gauge for the task and ensuring that the nails are driven straight and securely.
Safety: When working with steel nails, it's essential to wear appropriate safety gear, including eye protection, to prevent injury from flying debris.
Steel nails are a fundamental component in construction and various industrial processes.Choosing the right type and size of nail is crucial for the success and durability of a project. Proper installation techniques and maintenance can ensure the reliability of steel nails in securing materials and structures.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will these penetrate mortar/bricks? bend-less |
Answer: | I don't think these should be used to mount shelves on walls. While they are sturdy nails for hanging artwork, I would say an anchor and screw would be better. |
Question: | Can you use these to mount shelves on wall |
Answer: | I only use this nail by itself. I found it difficult to drill the whole larger in the hanger without damaging the hanger. |
Question: | Nails are too big for the hanger? Just drill a bigger hole in the hanger. 1/16" bit or 1/32" or a metric size works even if hole slightly too wide |
Answer: | I don't have one handy to measure, but they are about 1.25 inches, the size one would use to hang a 10lb picture hanger. Which is what I use them for most. I have been buying them exclusively for that for about 15 years. They are less likely to bend than the normal nails too. They do come in a larger size as well. I hope this helps. |
Question: | How long are the nails from tip to tip? Thanks |
Answer: | China |

Question: | What is the diameter of the head, hammering end ? TY |
Answer: | Yes they are compatible with most nail guns. Mine is a Numax and have few problems. Yes, once in a while the plastic comes off at the wrong time or the nails were not inputted into gun tightly enough. Should be 'good to go'. |
Question: | Can they be used in Bostitch N88Rh nail gun |
Answer: | Yes it can. Your gun requires 21 degree plastic shank nails sizes 2-3 1\2 inch, so these are good to go |
Question: | can it be used in a Numax 21 machine |
Answer: | 1/4 inch |
Question: | What is the diameter of head, hammering end ? TY |
Answer: | my guess is that they will not work with mortar or bricks, but I haven't tried using them for that purpose. They are so much better at the usual task than others of the same size though. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Size of head |
Answer: | Here is what I understand....Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide warnings to Californians about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. These chemicals can be in the products that Californians purchase, in their homes or workplaces, or that are released into the environment. Should you worry about Prop 65? Probably not. The Prop 65 label is like a noisy alarm that rings equally loudly about smaller amounts of low-risk substances and huge amounts of potentially harmful chemicals. The labels don't say how much of the chemical is present, or how much it would really take to make a person sick. All I can say is that the Prop 65 warning is on most, if not all, of my California bought tools and I use them everyday...my path for better or worse? |
Question: | I found a Prop 65 warning on the box. What is this for? I am using this to make children’s products |
Answer: | They should, they work in my Bostitch Brad nailer where I mostly use Porter Cable Brad's as they're öfter lower price. |
Question: | Will these work with my Porter Cable nail gun |
Answer: | Sorry, I cannot answer your question for certain. The description of your device (dewalt dwhttr350) says that it will take 18 gauge brads. I have a pneumatic brad nailer which works great with my compressor but have never used a manual nailer/stapler with 18 gauge nails. |
Question: | Will these work with a dewalt dwhttr350 manual brad nailer/stapler |
Answer: | There are 60 nails in one box. I know nothing about 5 boxes in a pack. |

Question: | Will cat7 Ethernet cable fit |
Answer: | No, just the size of that nail. |
Question: | Do these put large holes in the wall |

Answer: | These clips will only hold one coaxial cable firmly. |

User questions & answers
Question: | or 305 gauge? Both listed in title and description |
Answer: | There are many types of Stainless Steel alloys (varying the carbon steel content for corrosion resistance versus strength...). More corrosion resistant stainless steel alloys will 'generally' be a softer, weaker steel due to the alloys used- and those not used. This is generally not an issue with screws going into wood- like these ones. If however you are driving stainless steel 'tapcon style' fasteners into concrete- fastener breakage could be a factor. That said, all stainless steels I have used are much more corrosion resistant than 'plain steel' screws, more corrosion resistant than zinc plated screws, and also more corrosion resistant than galvanized screws. These #2 square drive screws are vastly superior to any of the 'lifetime warranty' coated/treated non stainless screws at the big box stores- and the square drive is much less prone to stripping than a cross recessed (ie: phillips head) screw is. BTW, stainless can and will rust in the proper environment- it is not rust proof- just far more rust resistant than all the others besides perhaps titanium. |
Question: | Is a deck screw different from a regular all purpose screw |
Answer: | No, there was no bit, but screws are extremely sturdy and most importantly, these do not strip easily, even at high drill speed. They also have a cutting edge at the tip which makes fast and easy effort to screw into the wood. I ordered them 2 separate times and was very satisfied with the product. |
Question: | Does a bit come with them |
Answer: | T don't recommend these screws, pretty bad quality: the square-shaped bit seats are easily deforming while the bit is applied. Made in China Later I found non-stainless steel with anticorrosion coat, strong star-shaped seat, made in the USA and also less expensive, |
Question: | I’m having some custom aluminum panels made up that I intend to fasten to wood with the screws. Do you have an exact cut sheet with dimensions etc |
Answer: | They worked in my Senco nailer that is 34 degrees. |
