13 best face mill holders
Face mill holders are precision machining accessories used in industrial settings, particularly in milling machines. They play a crucial role in securing and accurately positioning face milling cutters, which are cutting tools used to remove material from the face of a workpiece. Here are some key points about face mill holders:
Purpose: Face mill holders are designed to hold and secure face milling cutters in milling machines. These cutters are used to create flat surfaces, grooves, and slots on workpieces by removing material from the face or surface.
Design: Face mill holders typically have a cylindrical shape with a taper at one end that matches the spindle taper of the milling machine. The other end has a flange or flat surface to accommodate the face milling cutter.
Compatibility: It's crucial to ensure that the face mill holder is compatible with both the milling machine's spindle taper and the size and style of the face milling cutter being used.
Secure Clamping: Face mill holders have mechanisms, such as collets or set screws, that securely clamp the milling cutter in place. This ensures stability and precision during machining operations.
Accuracy: Face mill holders are manufactured with high precision to maintain tight tolerances and concentricity, which is essential for achieving accurate and uniform machining results.
Versatility: These holders can accommodate various sizes of face milling cutters, allowing for versatility in machining tasks. They are commonly used in industries like metalworking and manufacturing.
Machining Applications: Face mill holders are used in a wide range of applications, including facing, contouring, slotting, and other milling operations. They are particularly useful for creating large, flat surfaces on workpieces.
Safety: Proper installation and tightening of the face mill holder are essential to ensure safety during machining operations. Loose or improperly secured tools can lead to accidents and damage to the workpiece.
Maintenance: Regular inspection and maintenance of face mill holders are necessary to ensure their continued performance. This includes cleaning, checking for wear or damage, and proper lubrication.
Coolant Compatibility: In some machining applications, it may be necessary to use coolant or cutting fluids. Some face mill holders are designed with features to allow coolant flow to the cutting edge of the tool.
Face mill holders are vital components in precision machining operations, and their proper selection and maintenance contribute to the quality and efficiency of the machining process. Machinists and operators should follow manufacturer guidelines and best practices when using face mill holders to ensure both safety and accuracy in their machining tasks.

Product description
It is preferably steel, which has wear resistance and tensile strength, and is suitable for the processing of flat surfaces, steps, profiling surfaces and grooved surfaces. Blade, cutter disc, tool handle, trinity, tight fit, durable. The matching hard alloy blade can process steel parts and stainless steel.
- The milling cutter disk has the advantages of cutting labor and can mill the step surface. During milling, the stress points are along the direction of rotation of the milling cutter, and the downward force is small, and the product is not easy to deform when milling thin strip products.
- Hardening and hardening High-precision shock resistance, good permeability, resistance to multiple impacts, good low-temperature impact toughness, sturdiness and durability, which can increase the service life and shock resistance of the cutter head.
- The all-steel cutter body of the steel milling cutter is your savior for the main shaft, allowing you to reduce the load on the processing of the load.
- Strict wire jointing, strong compression force, screw offset tightening design, so that the blade position groove and the blade closely fit together, the rigidity is enhanced, and the processing effect is good.
- High-hardness treatment Strong and durable, the surface of the cutter head is treated with a new thin coating treatment liquid for high-hardness treatment, and has good acid resistance.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used to cut hard woods witthout burning the wood |
Answer: | As others have have stated it really depends on a lot of things, this is however more of a face mill it's not intended to take deep fast cuts, if you need to go deep use a conventional roughing end mill and use this for your final passes to get a nice clean finish. I've used mine on titanium and 7075 aluminum and it has produced a very nice smooth finish on the material. |
Question: | How many thousandths cut (per pass) can one take when using this tool on various metals |
Answer: | Look up ‘speeds and feeds’. Google that phrase, you’ll find what you need. Varies greatly with what you’re cutting, depth of cut, lubrication, rigidity of machine and workholding. |
Question: | What rpms have people been running this at? i have found suggestions on pm ranging from 250, to 2200... makes no sense |
Answer: | This is Standard R8 Shank ( Bridgeport Shank); which means the smaller end is 0.949" and larger end if is 1.25"; Shank length is 4"; drawbar thread is 7/16-20. Thanks. |
Question: | What is the shank diameter |
Answer: | I didn’t see any accurate answer to this but it is going to ultimately be the issue of up/down travel. They claim there is 8.5 inches of travel but you need to take into account the chuck for this, the Colette then a four inch mill bit for the 80% lower. You are looking at just about 6” or better before you even start, plus it has to sit in the jig and vise to hold the jig. I have the same question because I’m looking for a machine but have the feeling it may not fit due to the vertical length needed to start the process. |
