9 best rubber glues

Rubber glues, also known as rubber adhesives, are a type of adhesive specifically designed for bonding rubber materials to each other or to various other surfaces. These adhesives are commonly used in industrial and scientific applications where a strong, flexible bond is required. Here are some key characteristics and uses of rubber glues:

  1. Adhesion to Rubber: Rubber glues are formulated to provide excellent adhesion to rubber substrates. They can bond various types of rubber, including natural rubber, synthetic rubber (such as neoprene, silicone, and nitrile rubber), and elastomers.

  2. Flexible Bonds: One of the primary features of rubber glues is their ability to create flexible bonds. This is crucial for applications where the bonded materials need to maintain their flexibility or elasticity after bonding.

  3. High Strength: Rubber adhesives are known for their high bonding strength. They can create durable bonds that withstand various stresses, including tension, compression, and shear forces.

  4. Chemical Resistance: Many rubber glues offer resistance to chemicals, oils, and solvents. This makes them suitable for applications where the bonded materials may come into contact with harsh substances.

  5. Temperature Resistance: Some rubber adhesives are formulated to withstand extreme temperatures, both high and low. They can maintain their bond integrity even in environments with temperature fluctuations.

  6. Fast Curing: Depending on the specific product, rubber glues can have varying curing times. Some offer quick bonding, while others may require longer curing times or the application of heat to accelerate the curing process.

  7. Waterproof and Weatherproof: Rubber glues often provide waterproof and weatherproof bonds. This makes them suitable for outdoor applications or environments with exposure to moisture and environmental factors.

  8. Versatility: Rubber adhesives are used in a wide range of industries and applications, including automotive, construction, electronics, footwear manufacturing, and more. They can be used to bond rubber components in products like tires, gaskets, seals, and hoses.

  9. Application Methods: Rubber glues can be applied using various methods, including brush application, spray application, or dispensing from a tube or cartridge, depending on the product's consistency and intended use.

  10. Safety Precautions: It's important to follow safety precautions when working with rubber adhesives, such as using them in well-ventilated areas and wearing appropriate protective equipment, as some adhesives may emit fumes during curing.

Rubber glues play a crucial role in industries where strong and flexible bonds are required for rubber materials. They provide solutions for manufacturers and repair professionals who need to bond rubber components effectively and reliably. When selecting a rubber adhesive, it's essential to consider the specific requirements of your application, including factors like bonding strength, curing time, and environmental conditions.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be used for the plastic hinge in a car console? Plastic on plastic
Answer: I used this to repair the hood on my John Deer Lawn Tractor. I believe the material is ABS. After using the 3M Scotch Weld to stich the 12 individual pcs back together I used body compound on the outer surface sanded and repainted the broken hood. That was in October of 2020. The hood is holding up well. Be aware that I used Scotch weld and Baking soda. See -You tube regarding this method. The baking soda creates an instant strong bond. Wear the proper gloves.
Question: This product was the result of a search for best ceramic glues. Is it good for antique china repairs
Answer: Not my first choice
Question: Would it work on gluing back rubber pads on the nose bridge of plastic frame sunglasses
Answer: Yes, This glue will be effective in gluing pads onto sunglasses frames. If they are metal, you'd be best off scuffing the metal with sandpaper to ensure adhesion; for plastic this won't be a problem.
Question: Can this glue be used on hdpe coupling to pvc pipe
Answer: I wouldn't suggest it. Use PVC pipe glue. It comes in clear as well.

Gorilla

Based on 3 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Gorilla wood glue is the adhesive that woodworkers, carpenters and hobbyists trust for their woodworking projects. Gorilla wood glue, a PVA glue, offers the benefits of an easy-to use, water-based adhesive, with the holding power Gorilla is known for. This PVA glue is incredibly water resistant and Dries a natural color that offers an invisible bond line For your projects. Directions: for best results, it is essential that the wood surfaces are prepared prior to application of glue. For laminating, the surfaces should be planed smooth, leaving the board surface free from machine marks, tear-out and snipes. Also, be careful to avoid burnishing and end snipes. In general, apply a generous amount of glue on one of the surfaces. On hard-to-glue woods, apply the glue on both surfaces. Rub together with the other surface to distribute the glue evenly on both surfaces. Enough glue should be applied so that a fine bead of glue squeeze-out will occur when clamping. Coverage: one gallon of Gorilla wood glue will cover about 200 square feet. One fluid ounce will cover approximately 1.6 square feet. Clamping: the technique and type of clamp to be used is determined by many factors. In general, apply enough pressure that will cause a fine bead of glue to squeeze out when the proper pressure is applied. Clamping time (amount of time Pressure needs to remain applied): 20–30 minutes for room temperature applications. The temperature must be above 55°F. Note that clamping time can be dependent on temperature, humidity, and the porosity of the wood. Cure time (amount of time for glue to reach TOTAL bonding strength): 24 hours. Clean up while glue is wet: use a clean, damp cloth to wipe off excess glue. When areas have completely dried, sand as needed. Click on the Gorilla link at the top of this page to see other quality products from the Gorilla glue company.

Boot-Fix Shoe Glue: Instant Professional Grade Shoe Repair Glue

Boot-Fix

Based on 6 reviews Check latest price

Product description

"Boot-Fix's Shoe Glue is a flexible super glue that works almost instantly on footwear! As my dad used to say "If the shoe fits, Glue It!" Even the famous Gorilla Glue and Shoe Goo can't compare with Boot-Fix Shoe Glue when it comes to re-attaching the soles and heels of your favorite boots, shoes, and sandals. The flexible super glue formula was specially created just for repairing footwear. Whether it's in the blistering summer heat or icy cold of winter, boot-fix glue is designed to hold. Most super glues dry rigidly and can take several minutes or more to fully cure. Boot-Fix Glue dries clear and flexible! Whether you need to glue your boots for a hard day's work, a tough day of training, or just a walking around the office, Boot-Fix Glue can repair your work boots, athletic sneakers, and your rubber soled dress shoes." - John Hnilica, Founder NJOY Distributors, LLC.

  • Not just regular "super glue"! It's what the professionals use. We know, because we've been doing shoe repair for three generations!
  • Professional strength and flexible shoe glue that bonds almost instantly with no clamping! Doesn't expand or dry thick like the other leading brands.
  • Re-attach your sole with confidence because unlike other shoe glues, Boot-Fix's shoe glue creates a flexible bond unaffected by heat, cold or moisture.
  • Formulated to use on all footwear materials, especially rubber and vinyl footwear where other glues fail, including boots, athletic shoes, climbing shoes, dress shoes and more.
  • Specifically formulated to create a lasting bond that stays strong so you can have confidence in repairing your shoes yourself.

User questions & answers

Question: Does anybody have the data sheet on this stuff i'm looking for something that will withstand high temp 160 to 170 F or 77c.I want to patch a car seat
Answer: I would just call an auto upholstery company local to you and see what they recommend.
Question: Why 3x$ compared to other super glue formulas? Enough to coat the soles of two boots and or other separated layers? Why such a little bottle
Answer: Thank you for your question. Boot-Fix retails for $9.95 but is $14.45 Prime to cover the cost of shipping. Boot-Fix is much stronger than regular super glues and contains an additive to keep the cyanoacrylate flexible when it dries. The formula and manufacturing process was intended for the shoe repair industry so you are getting the best of the best professional grade shoe repair glue. Boot-Fix contains 20 grams of adhesive and will last about 2 years. There is enough glue in the bottle to repair up to 10 boots or 15 shoes. Compare that to the $24 we charge to make the same repair in our shops. Thanks again. Hope that helps!
Question: Will it reattach running show soles that became completely detached from the upper soon after first use? New old stock shoes. Apply to entire sole
Answer: I'm certain it will. My boots I bought this glue for were DrMartens. The fabric mesh style. And sadly it this glue wasn't useful with fabric. I used the glue for my other old England original DrMartens and it worked perfectly well. Also used this glue (out of curiosity) for other projects and it worked so well. So besides fabric....This boot glue fix worked on every other project.
Question: Is this just like "krazy/super glue" only packaged for shoes at a higher price, meaning might as well just use the cheaper version? or is this better
Answer: Shoe-Fix and Boot-Fix are LIKE Krazy Glue or super glues, because it is a cyanoacrylate formula. BUT, Shoe-Fix and Boot-Fix have been specifically formulated for the shoe repair industry to bond to all types of materials used in today's footwear and remain flexible after curing to hold as long as possible. Regular super glues dry hard and would crack apart and break during shortly after use. We are professional shoe repairmen! We've been using this type of shoe glue in our two Florida shops for over twenty years and thought it was time for the retail market to be able to use the same glue we do - so here it is!!!

Product features

THE BOOT-FIX DIFFERENCE:

Boot-Fix is a super glue (cyanoacrylate) that is specifically formulated for the shoe repair industry.  We know because we’ve been using this type of glue in our shoe repair shops for almost 30 years now and we think we’ve found the best formula yet!  Boot-Fix Glue is the strongest footwear adhesive that works on all different types of shoe materials. What makes Boot-Fix Glue different from your average super glue?  Boot-Fix remains flexible after it dries so it doesn’t just break apart again when the footwear is worn.  Also, it’s viscosity has been specifically formulated to bond to the types of materials used to manufacture footwear these days. Unlike other shoe glues, Boot-Fix doesn’t require clamping for most repairs.  It’s ready to go in minutes, not hour or even days. Boot-Fix Glue is completely waterproof and it’s designed to hold even in the blistering summer heat, or icy cold of winter. Whether you need to glue your boots for a hard day's work, a tough day of training, or just a walking around the office, Boot-Fix Glue can repair your work boots, athletic sneakers, rubber soled dress shoes, and much more!. As my dad used to say “If the shoe fits, Glue It!”

HOW TO USE:
HELPFUL TIPS:

*  Have a tri-folded paper towel handy to wipe off any excess glue.

*  For completely detached soles, preset sole to desired position and hold. Repeat above steps to the toe or heel first, then repeat for opposite end until entire sole is attached.

*  If there’s a white film on the surface of the material, or if the footwear has been washed or exposed to soapy substances, you will need to use more Boot-Fix and apply more pressure for a longer period of time to allow for the adhesive to soak through the film and bond to the intended materials.

*  For porous materials, use Boot-Fix as described in the directions.  If the bond does not hold after 1 minute, simply repeat the steps again with more glue now that the porous material has been filled with some glue. This repair might also require more pressure for a longer period of time for the adhesive to work as intended.

*  Latex or other types of gloves are not required to use Boot-Fix and may get glued to your footwear accidently. We recommend doing the repairs carefully with your bare hands. If you do accidently get Boot-Fix on your skin, apply cooking oil to bonded areas and gently rub to peel bond apart.

*  Store Boot-Fix in a cool dry place or refrigerator and ensure the cap clicks shut when closing for longest life.

User questions & answers

Question: what is set time
Answer: We glued Velcro to fabric and let it set up for 4 hours before testing it. It didn't fail but can't tell you if we needed to let it sit that long.
Question: I need to glue down some rubber treads on my deck stairs to prevent slipping on them. Does anyone feel this glue would do it - We have hot weather
Answer: I would just buy some construction adhesive at your local hardware store and use that it will be much cheaper and is made to work with wood, rubber, tile, concrete, etc. With this stuff you will need a bunch of tubes to do what your doing if it even works.Hope this helps.RagenRat / aka Mark
Question: what is cure time for
Answer: This is not at all like contact cement. After applying contact cement and letting it dry, pressing the pieces together makes an instant, solid bond. Not this stuff. You have to wait until it’s tacky, but not dry. Once it has dried, it’s worthless. Even rubber cement works better than this junk. I wouldn’t use it again even if it was being given away for free.
Question: Directions say, "do not close bond?" What does that mean
Answer: It means that you don't apply the adhesive and then immediately push the two items to be bonded together. You need to allow the adhesive to become tacky before pushing the two items together, otherwise the final bond won't be strong.
