12 best high temperature epoxys

High-temperature epoxies are specialized epoxy adhesives designed to withstand elevated temperatures without degrading or losing their adhesive properties. These epoxies find applications in various industrial and scientific settings where regular adhesives would fail due to high heat exposure. Here's what you need to know about high-temperature epoxies:

  1. Composition: High-temperature epoxies are typically formulated using heat-resistant resin systems and high-temperature curing agents. These components allow the epoxy to maintain its structural integrity and adhesive properties at temperatures well above those of standard epoxy adhesives.

  2. Temperature Resistance: High-temperature epoxies are engineered to withstand extreme temperatures, often in the range of 300°F (149°C) to 600°F (316°C) or even higher, depending on the specific product and manufacturer. Some specialized variants can tolerate even higher temperatures.

  3. Applications: These epoxies are commonly used in industrial and scientific applications where materials or components need to be bonded or repaired in high-temperature environments. Examples include aerospace, automotive, oil and gas, and electronic industries.

  4. Tile Epoxy Adhesives: In the context of tile epoxy adhesives, high-temperature variants may be used for applications where tiles are subjected to extreme heat, such as in industrial ovens, kilns, or high-temperature industrial settings. These adhesives help secure tiles in place and maintain their bond under high-temperature conditions.

  5. Industrial and Scientific Use: High-temperature epoxies are frequently employed in industrial settings to bond or repair components exposed to heat, including exhaust systems, engine components, and furnaces. They are also used in scientific research, particularly in experiments involving high-temperature conditions.

  6. Strength and Durability: These adhesives offer strong bonding capabilities and excellent resistance to thermal expansion and contraction, which is crucial when dealing with temperature fluctuations.

  7. Preparation and Application: Like regular epoxies, high-temperature epoxies require proper surface preparation for effective bonding. They are typically applied using a two-part mixing process and then allowed to cure at the specified temperature and duration.

  8. Safety Considerations: When working with high-temperature epoxies, it's important to follow safety guidelines, especially regarding proper ventilation and protective equipment, as some formulations may release fumes during curing.

  9. Product Varieties: There are various high-temperature epoxy products available, each tailored to specific temperature ranges and applications. It's essential to select the right product based on the intended use and environmental conditions.

High-temperature epoxies are crucial in industries where extreme heat resistance is required to ensure the reliability and longevity of bonded components. Proper selection, application, and adherence to safety guidelines are essential to achieve the desired results when using these specialized adhesives.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be used to"glue 2 pieces of metal together
Answer: Yes, it can glue metal, that's what it's designed for. What you must consider is the type of stresses the metal is subject to. Any glue joint will be weaker than the original homogeneous metallic structure
Question: can I use this thing on coolant pipe for little bit leak
Answer: it will only work on metal, not plastic or rubber. coolant would have to be drained prior to application as part must be clean and dry. 24HR cure time is minimum. product has the consistency of cake batter, not putty as is the case with most other JB Weld materials. might require several thin layers applied over time so don't plan on an overnight fix. has held up well in fixing catalytic converter which is obviously very hot at operating temp.
Question: Is this waterproof
Answer: Not in my experience. I used it to fix a hole on my barbecue and some moisture got in contact which caused it to crack and fall apart.
Question: Can I use this to repair a stove burner grate? I dropped it and the pieces need to glued together. Thanks
Answer: No, this will not provide any type of structural support. This is a filler, we also do not recommend any of our products to be in direct flame. Thank you, J-B Weld Support

User questions & answers

Question: J-B does NOT recommended this for exhaust manifold use, per their site FAQ. My truck's manifold is cracked: Would furnace cement work on such a crack
Answer: I am not familiar with furnace cement, but I would doubt such cement would stand the pressure from leaking gasses. However cast iron exhaust manifolds canbe successfully welded.
Question: I striped out an oil drain plug on a generator motor. But there is a second drain on the other side of the engine. Will this seal in oily environment
Answer: if you are thinking about plugging the hole, yes, but if you have access to the inside of the pan i would use it to attach a plate to the inside. you could also grind down the outside free of rust / dirt and use it to bond a plate to the outside. i would be concerned about just using it as a plug, where using it to bond something to the pan would not span a 1/2 to 5/8 in. gap. you might even use a quarter or a nickle or something stainless that will not rust. after it sets, hit it with some high temp paint.
Question: can you use this to seal a leaking transfer case seal? (would work ? instead of having to replace the seal
Answer: I guess it depends on if you ever want to fix it right. Once you use this stuff thats how it will be forever, it's not pliable or removable
Question: Will this fix a hole in a muffler
Answer: I used it on the muffler and tailpipe on my Honda four wheeler and it has been holding up well. If fact that's what I bought it for originally. The holes I patched you could cover with a dime.

User questions & answers

Question: Could this be used to fix a small (1 x 1/4 inch) crack in a dryer drum? Is there danger it will come off on the clothes
Answer: When I have had questions about JB Weld products I have called JB Weld & they have answered with good information. Your problem is special because of the temperature that the drum attains. Ask JB Weld.
Question: Is this product electrically conductive
Answer: It is NOT electrically conductive. JB Weld is classified as an insulator my the manufacturer (see JB Weld FAQs). In fact it's rated to be microwave safe. Metallic conductors should never be used in a microwave oven, but JB Weld is OK for microwave use.
Question: I have a number of small leaks in an older aluminum boat-- would JB work for a repair on this as a weld/filler for small punctures? thanks
Answer: This is a general purpose epoxy that worked great for me on cast iron. It does say you can use it for marine purposes, however you might also consider their product made specifically for water:http://www.amazon.com/J-B-Weld-8277-Water/dp/B000BRQ0TW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1392730373&sr=8-5&keywords=jb+weldor look into the Permatex product made specifically for metalshttp://www.amazon.com/Permatex-84109-PermaPoxy-Minute-Multi-Metal/dp/B000ALDXV2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392730252&sr=8-1&keywords=metal+epoxy
Question: block crack between cyls 5 & 7 against the head, at the narrowest point between cyls. both cyls are sleeved. will jb hold the temp without breaking do
Answer: thanks gpower. was looking online at the temp ratings of different epoxy products, actually found one @2100F, but with low tensile strength. I would like to stay away from welding as the crack is five eights long and sleeved at each end. just now pressure testing and the waterjacket has held 30 lbs for 12 hrs. I may also entertain some of the hi-tech block sealers, if it continues to hold pressure. thanks again for your input, and wish me luck putting life back in this old hemi. Dean

Question: Can you remove it if needed
Answer: Believe the instructions are on the back side of the package. You can use acetone or paint thinner to remove. Its great stuff. Works well.
Question: Can I use it to glue shower mirror to tile in my shower
Answer: You can but it will probably leach through the mirror coating and appear as mold. Buy mirror mastic.
Question: Would this be a good product for sealing a crack in a dishwasher liner
Answer: Yes- I did this, along with filling in a gap on the dishwasher door gasket (which was ultimately replaced). Worked great! Be sure to clean the surface and rough it up a little (a bit of sandpaper, then clean the sandpaper dust off before application of the RTV). Used it a few years ago- is still sealed; all is well.
Question: My portable convection oven (heats to 500 degrees) glass door fell out of the metal bracket. Would this work to glue it back in
Answer: Be careful of sealant giving off toxic fumes the first few times you use it. Try heating up the oven 2-3 times before actually placing food inside that could absorb the toxic off-gasses.

User questions & answers

Question: If im using on my liner and insert stove, how long before i can have a fire
Answer: Depends on how much movement (and expansion/contraction) your afraid will disturb your final product. - I'd give it at least 12hrs if not 24hrs.. to at least get it mostly dried, adhered and set.. It's a water soluble sand impregnated caulk.. (Hence, it won't go up in flames off-gassing) It will only dry out more with heat..
Question: would this work to fix a crack in a panel of the refractory in my fireplace
Answer: Yes this worked great for our fireplace panels. We had multiple cracks and applied this product with a caulking gun and then used a putty knife to smooth it out and pushed it into the cracks. It says on it that it IS NOT to be used on cracks larger than 1/4 ". It is rated for 2000 degree heat. Liked the price and 2 day shipping.
Question: Can this be used to repair hairline cracks in a Kamodo ceramic firebix
Answer: It’s all purpose fire place mortar so unless manufacture prohibits I would say yes
Question: is this product water clean-up
Answer: Yes it is.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be removed when you need to drop exhaust for transmission repairs? Or is it like a weld where uou have to make a cut
Answer: Think of this as pipe thread compound. It is hard when it sets up.It should crack and break apart . The residue should be able to be sanded off if any is left.
Question: can i use this as gasket dressing to insure a tight seal, or is it to thick like a putty instead of a gasket maker/sealant
Answer: Yes!!! It'll seal up great. It's not like putty it's pretty thin when it comes out probably about like rtv but not sticky like that just the same consistency then dries like drywall mud does
Question: How long did the seal hold up? A few months? A year? Thanks
Answer: Went over a year, probably at 16 months or so and it's still good! I used it in my pipe joints before clamping
Question: How many (average sized) seals can you get out of one 3oz tube? How many tubes I need if my exhaust has 6+ single exhaust pipe connections

Answer: Yes but it doesn't set quickly like super glue. You'll need to hold the led in place for at least 6 minutes and then let the glue dry completely. I used the glue to reattach a rearview mirror support slug to a windshield. I held the slug in place for 6 minutes and then let it dry overnight before I attached the rearview mirror to it. The instructions on the package will explain this. Also, be aware that you will NEVER be able to remove the led without ripping out the carpet.
Question: Would this work to fill a small hole in a slab of granite
Answer: Yes but it won't be pretty
Question: We put in peel and stick flooring, and there are a few gaps between boards. Would this work to fill in the gaps
Answer: Can it? Sure. Is it practical to use it in this manner? Probably not. It is messy, but if you tape the areas where you do not want the epoxy and pull the tape up before it sets, you'll be fine. You can also clean it up with acetone as long as you get to it before it sets. I also wouldn't recommend 5/6 minute epoxy, either. If you are filling a long gap, you'll need the extra time for clean up.
Question: can it hold metal to plastic
