14 best epoxy wood glues
Epoxy wood glues are adhesive products designed specifically for bonding wood surfaces. Here are some key points about epoxy wood glues:
Composition: Epoxy wood glues consist of two components – resin and hardener. These components must be mixed in precise proportions before application.
Versatility: Epoxy wood glues are versatile and can be used for various woodworking applications, including bonding different types of wood, laminating surfaces, and repairing wooden structures.
Bond Strength: Epoxy wood glues create a strong and durable bond. The cured epoxy forms a tough and rigid adhesive layer that provides excellent shear strength, making it suitable for load-bearing applications.
Gap Filling: Epoxy wood glues are known for their gap-filling properties. They can fill voids and irregularities in wood surfaces, creating a strong and uniform bond even in imperfectly matched joints.
Curing Time: The curing time of epoxy wood glues can vary based on the specific formulation. Some epoxy adhesives cure relatively quickly, while others may require more time. It's essential to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for curing times.
Water Resistance: Many epoxy wood glues are resistant to water, making them suitable for applications where the bonded wood may be exposed to moisture. This water resistance helps maintain the integrity of the bond over time.
Temperature Resistance: Epoxy wood glues generally exhibit good temperature resistance. They can withstand a range of temperatures without losing their adhesive properties.
Color Options: Epoxy wood glues are available in different colors, including clear formulations. This allows for a more aesthetically pleasing finish, especially in applications where the adhesive may be visible.
Applicator Options: Epoxy wood glues come in various forms, including liquids, gels, and paste-like consistencies. Some formulations are designed for specific applications, such as vertical surfaces or overhead bonding.
Surface Preparation: Proper surface preparation is crucial for the effectiveness of epoxy wood glues. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of contaminants for the adhesive to form a strong bond.
Safety Considerations: It's important to follow safety guidelines provided by the manufacturer, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and working in well-ventilated areas.
Shelf Life: The shelf life of epoxy wood glues can vary. It's advisable to use the adhesive within its recommended timeframe to ensure optimal performance.
Always refer to the specific instructions provided by the manufacturer of the epoxy wood glue you are using, as application methods and recommendations can differ between products.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the mixed epoxy be injected with a syringe to ensure it fills a deep screw hole? Need to make sure the hole is filled in order to drill a new hole |
Answer: | You can certainly try. I am not sure it will be thin enough to fit in a syringe. I would use the original JB Weld (8265S) rather than the Wood Weld. It can be drilled and tapped and is the strongest product we have. Thanks JB Weld support |
Question: | Can I use this to repair chair legs that my dog chewed ver badly or should I use regular wood filler |
Answer: | This is much stronger than wood filler, you can only work with a little at a time though, it dries very quickly so I suppose it depends how many repairs you need to make. I would probably still use J-B Weld, the finished repairs will be much stronger. Don't know what sort of finish you want to use afterwards that would be a factor too. If you are painting over the repairs it will be great for that. |
Question: | can one drill and srew into it |
Answer: | Yes, but I would always drill a pilot hole before screwing in a wood or sheet metal screw, |
Question: | What is highest temperature a cured joint can withstand |
Answer: | It's made for wood, so if wood burns then that is the highest temperature it can withstand. |

Question: | After opening, what are the components shelf life? Anyway to lengthen their viability |
Answer: | Bought some of this same brand/same size "at least" 40 years ago! It was kept (unfortunately) in my garage (NO HEATING OR AC) for most of this time... temps here can range anywhere from a low of 12 degrees. F to 105 degrees during the course of what one could consider a "typical" year. To my EXTREME SURPRISE...This stuff worked great up until LAST YEAR!!! The resin now appears to show some signs of "separation", but even still... if I take time to assure the resin is stirred in the bottle to a consistent appearance before dispensing, it will still harden and secure the items I use it on. It takes longer to reach a full cure than in the past, but works for my non-critical needs. I can't comment on whether it has the same total bonding power as when new, but it DOES still bond! I am however now finally buying a NEW set so that I can put projects in service based on the product's original "full bonding time frame" (mine takes longer now), and for items that are either too difficult access at will (for a potential re-do") or too critical in function to take chances with bonding failure. GREAT PRODUCT provided they haven't monkeyed with the formula since I bought mine! Even drinking water has a "shelf-life", so I'm totally amazed this stuff has performed so well during the 40 years or so I've had it!!! |
Question: | Will it melt blue styrofoam |
Answer: | oh yes as fast as it hits it, jim |
Question: | Two questions: Is the mix pourable, and what is the maximum temperature that the cured resin can tolerate |
Answer: | After mixing, the mixture is viscous but can still be poured (immediately). Maximum temperature before release of toxic fumes is |
Question: | I'm really looking for something equivalent to super glue but in this size bottles. Question is do need to use and mix both bottles for it to glue |
Answer: | need to use equal parts of each tube, mix well. drying time will be stated on tubes, depending on type you buy...30 sec. to 30 min. or more. usually acetone clean-up before dried, acetone soak will also release bond, as will heat over 325 degrees.whatever quantity needed will still be a 1-1 mix, but keep in mind working time vs dry time, so not to mix more than you can use before hardening. denatured alcohol can thin mixture |

Gorilla takes epoxy to a new level—the Gorilla tough level. With its superior solvent and water resistance, Gorilla epoxy adhesive is incredibly strong and durable for household and automotive repairs alike. The easy-to-use syringe keeps the epoxy resin and hardener separate, so it is easy to dispense and won’t harden over time. The two-part, gap-filling formula easily bonds steel, aluminum, glass, wood, ceramic, tile and most plastics. Plus, it Dries in an ideal, crystal-clear finish that makes projects look spotless. Directions: 1. Prepare your work area and the surface: It is recommended to use Gorilla epoxy In a well-ventilated area. Prepare the surface: to improve adhesion, roughen smooth surfaces before gluing. Then clean and dry all surfaces to be bonded. 2. Mixing Gorilla epoxy: remove the black cap. With tip pointing upward, cut or snap the end from tip of the syringes. With the tip still pointing upward, eliminate air and ensure even dispensing by slowly pushing the plunger until both the resin and the hardener are at the tip. Push the plunger to dispense even amounts of resin and hardener onto a clean, disposable, contained surface. Mix the two parts for about 20 seconds, until the mixture is uniform. 3. Application: after mixing is complete, apply Gorilla epoxy within 5 minutes. The epoxy mixture will continue to thicken and the bond strength will decrease the longer you wait to apply. 4. Clamping: to reach maximum bond strength, clamp project together and leave undisturbed. Important cure times: set: 5 minutes to apply and position handling: allow to cure for 30 minutes undisturbed (no weight or handling) final cure: allow 24 hours for load-bearing weight storage: to close, pull plunger slightly back. Wipe tip clean with dry cloth and align notch on tip and cap. Close tightly. Click on the Gorilla link at the top of this page to see more fine products from the Gorilla glue company.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will Gorilla glue work on hanging something on ceramic tile |
Answer: | I have zero doubt that it will work. I would prep the surface of the tile with sandpaper or steel wool at the least. |
Question: | Will this work to fix an axe head |
Answer: | I used this to fix a maul head to the handle. It was slipping thru extended use and looked like it would come off soon. First sanded and cleaned the fiberglass handle with acetone to created a rough and clean surface. Then wiped the inside of the mall head with acetone. Mixed up a big batch since I didn't want to fall short of product once I started filling. Applied it liberally to the handle then slipped the head on and used the rest to fill in around any crevice left around the head until it was one pool of epoxy flush with the head top. Let it sit for a day then used. Been over a year and it has not had any sign of slipping and looks the same as when I first glued it on. |
Question: | I need a clear epoxy to cover and protect a circuit i made in a small box mod i made. its for a small 4- 6 volt device. is this ok |
Answer: | Probably YES is your answer with NO guarantees, since I have never used an epoxy to cover ANY type of circuits. I HAVE HOWEVER, used a SILICONE SEALANT (marine grade) also available through AMAZON, to cover AND seal electrical circuits on several watercraft I have owned over the years. ALL with great success. The beauty of the silicone is that it dries clear and can easily be removed while the epoxy dries to an amber hue and is almost impossible to remove. Once it dries, it's there forever. MY suggestion is use a marine grade (waterproof) silicone sealant. GOOD LUCK! |
Question: | I'm thinking of using this on ceramic cookware. Is it heat resistant up to 500 degrees F |
Answer: | MamaO - researched question - Do NOT use Gorilla epoxy on food ceramics. For other ceramics other than food, should be ok up to 180. From 200-500, epoxy will de-compose. / Look for food safe stuff only, but best to not repair your ceramic for food use. What you want is hard to find ! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this product ok to use on my porch floor where it gets lots of traffic |
Answer: | If the rotted-out section is properly prepared (say, by removing all damaged wood and applying a couple of coats of wood petrifier to soak the adjacent area), then yes, the epoxy paste will be equally as strong as wood and should withstand traffic. Just filling in the rot hole without treating the edges where it binds will eventually result in the "plug" separating. Be sure to paint or eurathane, etc. the finished, sanded repair. |
Question: | Is it possible to buy this product in white as the wood items I need to repair will be painted white afterwards |
Answer: | It cures to a very light tan. When painting give the product a very light first coat of paint and then a 2nd after that dries. |
Question: | the bottom of my sash is rotted, so how do I keep the epoxy in the hole |
Answer: | Tape over the bottom if you have access to the bottom, but if not try plugging the bottom of the hole with putty or glazing compound |
Question: | If I am using this to fill wood gaps in wood that is not rotted should I still use wood hardener first? How likely is this epoxy to come loose |
Answer: | The petrifier can be used to harden rotted wood. You can also remove a lot of the rotted wood if that is possible given the project parameters. If you are filling a large void it is good idea to use some screws to act as rebar for the putty. You install the screws below the surface of the repair and make sure to drive them into good material. Then spread the putty into the hold around the screws when dry the putty will have wrapped around the screws almost like you "screwed" the putty to the surface. Make sure the screws are below the finished surface will allow the putty to hide the screws. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this product accept wood stain at all |
Answer: | Yes, but to control the amount of pigment, I have always sealed the filler 1st, and matched the background color of the wood grain, sealed again, then added the actual wood color on top of the 2nd coat of sealer, then sealed again, painted in grain lines and sealed again. Sealer = lacquer, polyurethane, etc. Usually using a spray finish.. |
Question: | Can kwikwood be used for rotted wood repair? the window sill has rotted area with high moisture content.the product label mentions dry rot |
Answer: | Yes, but dry rot has to be removed and wood needs to be dried out, for a good base for a stable application...also how large of an area is involved needs to be considered. If larger than 3"x3"×2" deep..I would considered a different filler, a bondo type for wood repair, available at most hardware stores, that's more spreadable...for larger holes. |
Question: | can this be used to replace the corner of a wooden drawer that is broken off |
Answer: | Absolutely. I used it to replace a few corners and patch nail holes |
Question: | Once you open the package do you have to use it all at once or can you reseal it and save it for another day |
Answer: | I used about 2/3's of a package. Resealed. Used about half of remaining a week later. Resealed. Still seems usable except portion I accidently put in contact. Is binary thick paste, like modeling clay. To activate, must kneed together with fingers quite a bit. Hardens in about 15 minutes. RH |

Epoxy Putty
KwikWood is a hand-mixable epoxy putty, formulated to repair and rebuild wood. After mixing, it cures to the same density as wood and becomes an integral part of the repair. For use on exterior or interior applications, it contains no solvents, will not rot, shrink, crack or pull away. KwikWood has a 15-25 minute work life. After 60 minutes, it can be machined, drilled, tapped, sanded, filed and painted. Stronger than wood, KwikWood dries to a light tan color.
Additional Attributes
- KwikWood will not shrink or rot.
- KwikWood can absorb stain coloring (color should be tested and matched first).
Product description
The product that started it all. Original Gorilla Glue built a name for itself with its incredible, industrial holding power and versatility. The water activated polyurethane formula expands into materials to form an incredibly strong bond to virtually anything. Gorilla Glue is a 100% waterproof glue, safe for indoor and outdoor use and strong enough to stand up to the elements. Gorilla Glue’s your solution for almost any project or repair. Sand it, paint it, stain it. Simply stated, it’s the Toughest Glue on Planet Earth. Directions: 1. Prepare and Dampen the Surfaces: All surfaces must be clean, dust free and tight fitting. For shiny surfaces, such as metals, glass and some plastics, roughen up the material to give the glue something to bite into. Lightly dampen one surface with water. We recommend using a damp cloth or spraying with water. Do not saturate the surface. For dense hardwoods, lightly dampen both surfaces prior to gluing. 2. Evenly Apply Gorilla Glue Onto the Dry Surface. Carefully apply onto the dry surface. Do not over apply. We recommend wearing gloves or spreading the glue with a disposable brush. 3. Clamp the Two Surfaces Together Tightly. Make sure the clamping pressure is distributed evenly across the surface. Or, if you don’t have a clamp, use heavy objects or Gorilla Tape to achieve the appropriate clamping pressure. Clamp objects for 1–2 hours. For best results, allow 24 hours to cure. 4. Clean up: If you need to remove any uncured “squeeze out” or wet glue, we recommend wiping with a dry cloth or using a standard paint thinner. Once the glue is dry, it is best removed mechanically: Try sanding, chiseling, scraping or picking. 5. Storage Tips: After each use, wipe the bottle’s lid and nozzle clean with a dry cloth. While still squeezing, tightly replace the cap and then store in a cool, dry place. You should expect a year shelf life.
