User questions & answers
Question: | Will this glue plastic to wood |
Answer: | It's used to glue formica to plywood. should work fine. FOLLOW INSTRUCTION ON THE CAN !!! |
Question: | I am removing 50 year old Formica from a wood countertop. Will this contact cement adhere to new Formica over the old contact cement |
Answer: | I can’t answer that based on I’ve never done it.. however, I would guess that it would not keep the same adhesion properties. If you really want to keep the old countertop wood that’s under the laminate, I would get some heavy grit sand paper and remove all of the old adhesive. Then I would sand with a finer grit sand paper until it’s smooth. The smoother and cleaner the surface, the better adhesion you will get. (Maybe clean surface with mineral spirits and let it dry before applying the cement) |
Question: | I want to put contact paper on my walls is this a good cement to do this, if not.... what is |
Answer: | This is a very strong adhesive used to bond rigid wood veneers to other wood surfaces. Once you make contact, you can not smooth out wrinkles. Some contact papers come with a lower tack adhesive on one side. Peal of the protective coating and you can put it up and smooth out wrinkles. Standard wall paper paste is what works best, because you can move the paper laterally before it sets and smooth out wrinkles. |
Question: | How does it work on Leather ? Does it dry hard, or is it still flexable ? Thank You |
Answer: | The DAP Weldwood does work well on leather and stays flexible.Picbuck's comments are spot on regarding STRONG fumes and waiting for it to dry before putting together.I've moved on to Badge Magic and like it much better (no fumes & no waiting).http://www.amazon.com/Badge-Magic-Freestyle-Patch-Adhesive/dp/B0062DLDH8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1380218677&sr=8-1&keywords=badge+magicGood luck. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I live in California and need to know if this will be the best one to use to put on a vinyl top on my classic car |
Answer: | I've only used for laminate topping. You let this product dry before sticking product. so when positioning vinyl you BETTER have it where you want it before surfaces touch cause once it sticks there is NO repositioning. If you are a DIYer I'd leave this part to a professional with a written guarantee. JUST ME THOUGH |
Question: | Is this the kind of contact cement to glue canvas to a tent to repair a hole or tear |
Answer: | I don't think this would be a permanent fix but it might hold for awhile |
Question: | Can this be sprayed through a paint sprayer |
Answer: | Its pretty thick stuff, so I don't believe you can spray it |
Question: | does this work for laminating fiberglass to luan |
Answer: | It should. As a test, you could get a small 3 oz bottle @ Home Depot and try it. Don't trust the water-based cement, as I have found it to be useless. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many square feet does this cover |
Answer: | Nothing on the label to indicate. I only used it once on a quite small patch. I would think 9 would not be an overestimate. Probably more than that. How much more? Difficult to say. Sorry. |
Question: | Will this work for carpet to aluminum boat deck |
Answer: | DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! it simply doesn't work on anything. I am a cabinet maker and i've used several different kinds of contact adhesives over my 35 years in the trade. I needed a cement that was water base because of where I was working. I purchased this and it ended up costing me more money because i had to replace the sheet of laminate. I would not recommend a water base product for a boat deck. Check your local hardware store or Home Depot for a carpet adhesive that'll withstand the elements in which you're using it for. |
Question: | Is this ph neutral |
Answer: | Don’t be concerned with the ph neutral factor because this is the worst contact cement ever produced. I am an experienced woodworker and this stuff does not adhere at all. DON’T BUY!!! |
Question: | Would this be good for putting leatherette on my orthotics |
Answer: | No, I firmly believe this product to be defective. I returned mine and bought the "red can" version, i.e., the old-school "flammable" product. We know it works, as it has been around for years. If you live in one of the states where the "red can" is not sold, I suggest you look for a different product. |

Contact Cement - 2 PACK
- Dap Weldwood Contact Cement is a multi-purpose neoprene rubber adhesive that forms instant, high strength bonds on a variety of surfaces
User questions & answers
Question: | Is it good for glueing black rubber and plywood |
Answer: | Yes, I used it for gluing interior carpet in cars, carpet to metal. Most any surfaces. . |
Question: | The product description says : Contact Cement - 2 pack ... so they send two bottles of 3 fl.oz each |
Answer: | My shipment came in 2 glass bottles and both caps were loose, it was a mess. I used what I needed to do the job and tossed the rest out. |
Question: | Can I use this for shoe repair |
Answer: | I used it to keep an insoul from coming out. I used just a little on the shoe and insoul. It stopped it from coming out but not enough so when its time to change it it won't come out. If this helps |
Question: | use to put cork bord on a sheetrock wall |
Answer: | Yes. But beware! Once the two surfaces come together, you are done. There is no adjusting. If there is a chance of putting the cork up crooked at first, I would avoid this product and use an adhesive that allows some time before it sets so you can adjust it and get it straight. That having been said, I love this product where parts need to stick first time. |
Question: | will this product be able to be shipped to an APO box? Is there a limitation to air shippments |
Answer: | We can only ship within the United States, upper 48 states. |
Question: | Is this glue flexible I would like to affix fabric to leather as a liner will this work for that purpose |
Answer: | I've never used it for that purpose but I would expect it to work fine. I've used it on velvet and the fabric remains flexible once adhered to a lining. You may want to test a small piece and be sure to use lightly as it will soak through the fabric if applied too heavily. |
Question: | I'm making ceramic coasters--would this work well to adhere ceramic to cork? I incised grooves into the backs of the coasters already |
Answer: | It held very well to the items I needed it for. |
Question: | how to apply |
Answer: | Apply to both surfaces. Allow to become tacky or even dry. Put two halves together carefully, they cannot be repositioned. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this dry clear? I wanted to use it for crafts but I don't want it to be visible at all. Would a different kind of spray adhesive be better |
Answer: | No not completely clear, I used it to glue carpet to wood, works good but a few times I have had to pull it off and it’s not clear Buy one, try it, you will be able to use it for many things it’s cheaper here than in the stores |
Question: | Both sides have to be completely dry |
Answer: | This was a disappointment ━ but it may turn out OK…TBD Apparently, the exact time/temp/humidity needed by this product is critical. The instructions say "15 minutes to an hour" & "align carefully - it will grab instantly" Mine was apparently dry to touch in about 10 minutes, and 'grab' was non-existent for some areas. After enough (and hard enough) rolling, it appears the formica is solid. time will tell. I will attempt touching glue directly as it dries next time, slapping it together when still tacky, and may have some CA on hand as well to help seal the edges if needed… |
Question: | Could something like this be stick screen down to screen porch walls from the outside of the porch |
Answer: | probably not… |
Question: | How does this spray, in a continuous mist or string like |
Answer: | It sprays in a flat fan like mist with a slight string like manner. It’s great stuff, bonds just about everything and way cheaper on amazon then in stores. I paid 26 bucks for one cuz I needed it but found them cheap on amazon so I got 4 cans! |
Question: | Will it dry flexible enough for shoe making and repair? I use barge or Master contact cement, but the 'paint can' style container looks more practical |
Answer: | Yes, contact cement is commonly used for shoe repairs. Use a small paint brush to "paint" both surfaces to be in contact. Make sure both surfaces are completely covered where they will touch. Let both surfaces dry to touch (15 minutes???) before joining them, then press them together firmly. Be careful of the alignment of the parts; they may be very difficult to separate if they aren't lined up properly. |
Question: | Will this glue outdoor carpet to fiberglass boat deck and withstand the heat and water |
Answer: | Yes, I use this on hatch lids on my houseboat with the carpet wrapped between the hatch and boat. Carpet glue would give away in a short period of time. I did these areas with Weldwood Contact Cement several year ago and has hold up well. I do know that in the future with replacing the carpet, I will have a job taking it off. I also like the jell because it doesn't run while applying. |
Question: | Is this glue waterproof for shoe repair? I have a pair of water aerobic shoes. The bottom of the souls has let go and I need to glue them back |
Answer: | I've successfully used it on my house slippers in the past. |
Question: | can this be used for formica over painted surfaces |
Answer: | It could but no guarantees for how permanent the bond will be since you didn't mention if the surface is smooth or textured or if it is clean. |
