Answer:	It would be better installing the shelves at an angle, but I do not feel the rack was designed for tall boots with all three shoe organizer shelf. It may work better for tall boots if you only installed two of the shoe organizer shelves. Leave the middle shelf out.

Answer:	It's about 6.5 inches from bar to bar. But the shelves themselves are sort of like canvas so they have some give. I'm able to put 4 inch heels on the shelve, but boots that go to my calf don't quite fit. Hope that helps!
