Answer:	The actual pocket size from sewn edge to sewn edge is 4 1/2 inches by 7 1/2 inches. The plastic pouch is pleated over on either sewn edge which gives a little more space for shoes as they protrude forward. I was trying to use these as a creative way to display books in my classroom but most are about 5 inches wide, so they do not fit perfectly in the pouches. While this item won;t work for me because of this, I can say that for the price the quality and construction of this item is great.
