14 best brita counter water filters
Brita counter water filters are a popular and well-regarded brand of water filtration products designed to improve the quality and taste of tap water. These filters are primarily used in the kitchen and are available in various forms, including pitcher water filters and faucet-mounted filters. Here's what you need to know about Brita counter water filters:
Purpose: Brita counter water filters are designed to reduce impurities and contaminants commonly found in tap water. They aim to provide cleaner, better-tasting drinking water by removing substances like chlorine, sediment, heavy metals, and some organic compounds.
Pitcher Water Filters: Brita pitcher water filters consist of a pitcher with a built-in filter cartridge. To use, you fill the pitcher with tap water, and as the water passes through the filter, impurities are trapped, leaving you with filtered water in the pitcher's reservoir. This filtered water can then be poured directly into glasses or used for cooking.
Filter Types: Brita offers various types of filter cartridges for their pitchers, each with a specific focus. For example, they have filters designed to remove chlorine taste and odor, as well as filters that target heavy metals or limescale buildup.
Faucet-Mounted Filters: In addition to pitcher filters, Brita also offers faucet-mounted filters. These devices attach directly to your kitchen faucet, allowing you to filter water as it flows from the tap. Faucet-mounted filters are convenient for immediate access to filtered water while cooking or filling glasses.
Replacement Filters: Brita filters have a limited lifespan and need to be replaced periodically, typically every 2 to 6 months, depending on usage and water quality. Regularly replacing the filter cartridge ensures the continued effectiveness of the filtration process.
Filter Indicator: Many Brita products come with a filter change indicator that signals when it's time to replace the filter. This helps users maintain the water filter's optimal performance.
Environmental Considerations: Brita is committed to environmental sustainability. They offer recycling programs for their used filter cartridges, and some of their products use recyclable materials in their construction.
Cost-Effective: Using a Brita counter water filter can be more cost-effective than purchasing bottled water in the long run. It also helps reduce plastic waste associated with single-use bottles.
Improvement in Water Quality: Users often report that Brita counter water filters significantly improve the taste and odor of tap water, making it more palatable for drinking and cooking.
Installation: Brita counter water filters are easy to install and require minimal maintenance. Regularly cleaning the pitcher or faucet-mount unit helps maintain water quality.
In summary, Brita counter water filters, including pitcher filters and faucet-mounted filters, are popular choices for improving the taste and quality of tap water in the home. They are convenient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly solutions for households looking to enjoy cleaner, better-tasting drinking water. Regularly replacing the filter cartridges is essential to ensure effective water filtration.

User questions & answers
Question: | My Brita filter keeps smelling bad even after cleaning. Any tips |
Answer: | Pitcher made in China, Filter made in Canada |
Question: | How often does it need cleaning |
Answer: | I don't have any problem pouring water into glasses or bowls with the Brita. But there is one thing you need to beware of. The plastic top 'snaps down' in place. Sometimes it can come loose, and then a flood of water will pour out of the top, and over everything. To stop this from happening, I always put pressure on the top with one hand, when I am pouring water. |
Question: | Is this dispenser compatible with the blue longlast filters or just the standard white ones? Thanks |
Answer: | The easy way to get the white part dislodged is this: Remove the filter. Fill the pitcher all the way up with warm water and a dab of dishwashing liquid. Now turn it upside down. The force of the water and gravity will dislodge the white part. The soap adds some extra slip to dislodge things and cleans the pitcher. I might be a 90 pound weakling but I'm still an engineer's daughter. |
Question: | How tall is the black one? It seems as though the black is shorter and wider than the gray one but getting mixed info. Thanks |
Answer: | Mythbusters tested this concept and busted it. Myth: You can turn low-end vodka into top-shelf vodka with six filtrations of a domestic charcoal water filter (i.e. Brita filters). They set up the experiment so that the vodka testers would each get 8 shots of vodka: 6 from the filtration stations (single filtered, twice filtered, etc...), 1 top-shelf vodka, and 1 unfiltered low-end shot. The tasters were asked to rank the shots. Anthony Dias Blue, vodka expert, executive director San Francisco World Spirits Competion: his ranking corresponded exactly to the number of filtrations, with the top-shelf vodka picked as the best. Anthony: "Passing a low-end vodka through a filter will make it better, but it won't make it a top-shelf vodka" They further analyzed the vodka samples and found that there was no difference in chemical composition between the filtered vodka and the unfiltered vodka. Conclusion: You're better off buying the top-shelf stuff than wasting a bunch of water filters. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you put watered down no pulp juice in it |
Answer: | I don't want to get into an argument on this forum (tastes differ!) but it depends on what you're planning to listen to. If you're listening to music in stereo, your Sansui will be sweeter than virtually anything you can buy today for less than $1K (probably more than that). Vintage stereo receivers from that era (Sansui, Marantz, Pioneer, Harman Kardon, Luxman, etc.) were well built and serious about audio quality. The 65 watts they specify are 'old school' watts - a conservative estimate based on both channels driven at 8 ohm 50 - 20,000 hz with minimal distortion. Most modern receivers (particularly AVR receivers) grossly overstate their power capabilities and will distort far earlier. That having been said these speakers are very efficient so your Sansui (and a modern AVR receiver) will have way more power than you need and should drive them with ease. If you purchase a new AVR receiver I'd be interested to hear your opinion on which sounds the better - the new one or your Sansui. Assuming the Sansui's components are not in need of a refresh I know which one I'd pick! (It also has an excellent phono section). If you're doing surround sound and home theater then ignore everything above. |
Question: | Does it filter well water |
Answer: | Their sensitivity of 96dB with 2.83V at 1 meter is what most distinguishes these Kliosch RP-600M from the majority of loudspeakers. 2.83V into 8 Ohms = 1 Watt, so the factory sensitivity spec is the same as saying 96 dB into 1W at 1 meter. The thing to understand is that each 3dB equates to a doubling of sound pressure level. So a speaker with 96dB sensitivity will deliver twice the volume of a speaker with 93dB sensitivity or four times the volume of a speaker with 90dB sensitivity - for any given amount of Watts coming from your amplifier, at ang given listening distance. The Definitive Technology SM45 bookshelf speakers (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005XXMMG4) have a sensitivity of 90dB, thus requiring four times as much power to achieve the same SPL (sound pressure level) at any given disrance, compared to the 96dB Klipsch RP-600M. Generally speaking, inefficient (low sensitivity) loudspeakers matched with high powered (yet still low distortion) amplifiers sound better than efficient speakers with proportionately lower powered amps, but it's easier and less expensive to design a low-distortion amp having less power, than it is to design a high powered amp that still has a low THD+N. Therefore, in my opinion, the reason these Kliosch RP-600M sound so good to so many people is... most peopke are using inexpensive, relatively low-powered receivers or integrated amps that nevertheless have *enough* power to tightly control the power-hungry bass frequencies, especially, but also tightening up the mids, resolving more detail, if the DAC is decent, which improves soundstage and imaging. In short, these speakers are so efficient, they make cheap amps sound good, but having borrowed a friend's pair for awhile, I prefer my DefTech SM45 when powered with a boutique Class D amp, not sold by Amazon. My friend drives his Klipsch RP-600M with the low-powered Reisong A10 tube amp, which I must admit, sounds very musical, taking the edge off the treble a bit, for enjoyable fatigue-free listening. Question: | Why isn’t the water pouring out |
Answer: | First you need a speaker amplifier, and you can connect the speakers to the amplifier with a speaker wire cable. Then you can use the headphone output of your computer/laptop (3.5mm Out) and plug it into the Audio input (RCA or AUX) of the amplifier using a cable. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | Interesting question, back in the day antennas were how people got TV in their entire houses. Just like cable and satellite you have to connect the antenna to a splitter if you want to connect more than one TV. Or you can do like I did and get a Fire TV RECAST and connect that directly to the antenna and you have TV at every location on your Fire TV stick. You will need an AMPLIFIER to boost the signal to multiple TV’s also. |
Question: | Is the spout designed in such a way to prevent water from dripping or splashing all over the place? I would be using it around books & paperwork |
Answer: | No |
Question: | I cannot get the white part out. it is stuck and i'm afraid if i force it; it will break. is there any way to get it out |
Answer: | No. This receives free over-the-air local TV stations. I use mine when my AT&T cable service is down. I'm on the verge of dropping my cable TV service and just using streaming internet services plus this antenna and saving a lot of money. |
Question: | Has anyone tried filtering vodka with it |
Answer: | it has adhesive, i put it in a window, but didnt get any channels. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How quickly does it filter? Does it take a while to pour the water |
Answer: | Kohler Cimarron and other 2 piece Kohler toilets with a 3 1/4 inch trap. |
Question: | ive bought 2. both leak and i cant figure out from where. any suggestions |
Answer: | My Kohler is a 4643-AA. Compare what you have now inside the tank with the picture. It should be similar. |
Question: | Does this filter out fluoride |
Answer: | The Kohler site lists this flapper **For two-piece toilets with 3.5+ GPF** so I assume you have a toilet that requires 3.5 GPF. - If you think this flapper is dropping too soon you can attempt to make it stay open longer in a couple of different ways but it will take some experimentation on your part. It's easy and can be done pretty quickly.... One way is to add a float like the LASCO 04-1525 to the existing chain and flapper. -The closer the float is to the flapper the longer it makes the flapper stay open. The further away the float is the earlier it drops.... -If that doesn't work for you then you can install an adjustable flapper like the Korky 100. It is designed for **UP TO** 5 GPF toilets and might be worth trying.... -I think the last resort would be to install a NON ADJUSTABLE flapper like the Korky 2000 Classic Plus that was designed for earlier toilets that use 5-7 GPF. This flapper won't close until the last minute. Your toilet WILL start consuming more water but not 5-7 GPF...... -Like a couple have mentioned if you don't have most of the slack out of the chain it can cause issues. It causes a loss of efficiency because the flapper isn't being lifted high enough to get good initial flow / velocity through the flush valve.... - A correctly adjusted chain will allow the handle to move NO MORE than 1/2 inch (about one chain length play) before it starts to lift the flapper. There must be some slack or it can cause a very slow leak.... -I have no preference to Korky or Fluidmaster flappers, it's just that Fluidmaster doesn't list their flappers for use with 5 or 7 GPF toilets. |

Answer: | Great question, Kathy! All of our products are BPA free. Our Brita pitchers have always been BPA free. If you have any further questions, please call us at 1-800-24-BRITA Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM-5:30 PM EST. We're always happy to help! - Brita Consumer Services |
Question: | can you use the standard brita filter with this one |
Answer: | Hello! We're sorry to hear that your reservoir is stuck, and we'd like to offer a few tips to help. We recommend using two hands to pull the reservoir up from the body evenly on all sides. If that does not work, try placing it on the counter and letting it come back to room temperature. This works because the tank expands slightly and the water displaces as it warms up, allowing the reservoir to be slightly looser. You can also place your finger between the reservoir and the pitcher in the spout area to aid removal. Please give us a call at 800-24BRITA for further assistance, and be sure to mention this reference number: 171228-000487. We look forward to hearing from you! Mel from the Brita team |
Question: | Why do the black and grey look so different in shape and design? Are they not the same except for the color |
Answer: | Yes, the lid stays in place when pouring. I am very pleased with this product. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this pitcher come with a filter, or do I need to buy the filter seperately |
Answer: | As the others said: this water is for use with already treated water (thats basically what potable means). It cannot be used in a camping setting to make water safe (so no, it wont remove bacteria), but is best used with already filtered water to filter it further. Personally, I like using the filtered water from my fridge, which rates a 150mp, instead of the tapwater, rates 220 mp, to further filter it to 0mp. Also, the smaller mp water youre entering into the filter, the longer the filter should last. |
Question: | Just arrived. i don't see anywhere on the packaging that it is bpa free. how do your know that it is? other than that it says so on amazon |
Answer: | I "strangled" the filter like the ZeroWater helpline person advised to remove air from the filter - but it still stops half way full. I think it is cause the filter is down in the water too far. I don't think it is the snug airtight fit. I doubt there is anyway to fill the 23 cup reservoir. I am trying a thin piece of plastic to make sure it isn't the airtight issue. Will report back |
Question: | How do I get the reservoir out of the 5 cup metro pitcher |
Answer: | I am on my 2nd filter. I got the little universal ones to try in my current pitcher. The first one lasted about two weeks before the awful smell came. The 2nd one started smelling on day TWO. I can even taste it in the water. I have spring water and it reads at 174. The filter takes it down to 00 but it's not worth it for me to have my whole fridge smelling like this. Going back to my standard. Sorry zero water. |
Question: | Does the lid stay on when pouring |
Answer: | TEST SHOWS THAT ZERO WATER FILTER DOES FILTER OUT FLUORIDE: I have used the Zero Water filter for years (simply because I like zero taste in my water) and have been wondering recently if it filtered out fluoride. Since there is not a definitive answer in this thread I decided to test it myself. I confirmed a level of 0.75 ppm at my home before filtering (0.25 ppm is naturally occurring). Testing showed that the Zero Water filter did filter out fluoride. The test showed that fluoride levels dropped to |

User questions & answers
Question: | The item says “Longlast” but the accompanying photos show “Standard” ~ so which is it |
Answer: | I have a 9 speaker nht surround system in my living room upstairs. I still use (2) 1.5s as the front mains an older one as the center and (2) newer super ones you are inquiring about. I also have (4) zeros 2 old and 2 new as dolby type surround speakers. it isn`t a perfect surround but they all blend well together. you can see I like nht speakers. the new super ones are good sounding speakers but they are not 1.5s. I love the 1.5s still today. if you are planning to use the new super ones to replace for listening to 2 channel stereo I don`t think they hit the lows as well as a 1.5. a fine speaker but I prefer to use a nice sounding sub to round out the bottom end in my system. for 2 speaker listening the 1.5s can stand on their own. I don`t care what purists say but listening to music in this 9.1 speaker nht surround system is divine especially with a Marantz sr7013 to power them. hope this helps |
Question: | Do the Longlast filters fit Clear Genius water pitchers |
Answer: | No. Most NHT speakers are priced, packaged and sold individually. Brian / WiredForLess |
Question: | Is the longlast filter compatible with the standard filter |
Answer: | Ebony has a wood grain. Piano black is a smooth lacquer finish (no visible wood grain, like a black piano). |
Question: | He did they fixed these filters? The ones they sell at the retail store drain way faster than the one in the video |
Answer: | Yes you can, but why? These speakers need a little room to breath. They sound their best 1 1/2-2 feet from the wall. Why would anyone want to tame these beasts? They will kick like a mule of put in the right listening position as well as just great sound reproduction. They sound as good or better than most tower speakers I've heard. You wouldn't buy a Ferrari and only take it out in residential neighborhoods at 35-40 miles an hour. Let them stretch their legs so to speak. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this pitcher come with a filter, or do I need to buy the filter seperately |
Answer: | I don't recommend using any chemicals but you could try soaking the unit (without the filter) in a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. Then instead of dumping the water out try setting it on the counter and let the water freely flow from the opening until the smell goes away. May or may not require more than one go. Best of luck! |
Question: | Just arrived. i don't see anywhere on the packaging that it is bpa free. how do your know that it is? other than that it says so on amazon |
Answer: | I was not able to take mine apart for cleaning. I took the filter out and filled it with hot soapy water. Rinsed it out. Then filled it again with bleach water and rinsed it several times. Kinda disappointed with the design. |
Question: | How do I get the reservoir out of the 5 cup metro pitcher |
Answer: | Hello! Thank you for reaching out. Both Brita Standard and Brita Longlast filters are compatible with the Brita UltraMax. When inserting the filter, please remember to align the longest indentation in the side of the filter with the groove in the hole of the reservoir. Then press down firmly to ensure a snug fit, and that should do it. We hope this has been helpful! Mel from the Brita team |
Question: | Does the lid stay on when pouring |
Answer: | This information is false, at least in 2019. I just received my black dispenser and it is just as tall as the grey one, not shorter, unfortunately. Which means it's around 10.5 inches tall. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do brita filters reduce calcium, iron, and particulates? If so what are the specs |
Answer: | Poor description but Yes |
Question: | How well does the filter remove the chlorine taste in some city water |
Answer: | Yea |
Question: | Does this filter work with the UltraMax |
Answer: | They sound perfect to me. It's like I've found the sound I've been looking for. For me there probably isn't another speaker that can do that. I've tried about 13 pairs of bookshelf speakers ranging up to $1000, and they were no competition. I know this sounds strange, but that's how it's worked for me. Good Luck! |
Question: | I bought these and a couple of the filters the water goes through the filter very fast. Is this a defect in the filter? Is the water still filtering |
Answer: | If you're using them close to a wall, in a room that's not very large, you might get away without one. Keep in mind, the more low bass these are asked to deal with l the more the sound quality suffers. I use mine in my bedroom and don't need a sub, but I will use one soon. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the electronic counter need battery |
Answer: | Yes, it definitely holds 8 - 8oz cups. This places the water level at the bottom of the water filtering reservoir. I always fill mine with 8 cups. |
Question: | Did anyone else have trouble with the cover fitting? We can not get ours to fit in any way |
Answer: | I am not sure but I have used Brita for 10+ years! I love it |
Question: | What kind of batteries does this pitcher use & how long do they last, AND if you replace the batteries does the electronic filter indicator resets |
Answer: | From their website, "First, water flows through a built-in mesh screen that prevents black flecks. Secondly, activated carbon granules act like a sponge to reduce mercury and chlorine taste and odor. Also, Ion Exchange Resin captures copper, zinc and cadmium.*" Read more at https://www.brita.com/why-brita/health/how-do-brita-filters-work#PPEyraqBSv2ou1E6.99 |
Question: | Does the indicator tell you when to change the filter based on how many times it was filled up |
Answer: | So it’s not about how hard you press. On the side of the filter you should notice a groove that goes up the filter higher than the rest. If you look closely at the hole the filter sits in you will see a plastic piece that runs up the side of the hole. Line those up, slide it in, give it some firm pressure for seal and the lid should fit. You can’t put the filter in any ‘ole direction. Took me about 45 minutes to figure out. And yes, once properly adjusted the water filters at a snail’s pace compare to how it runs when not properly fitted. |
