Answer:	This unit drains from the bottom and has a drain plug. I was not sure about it draining from the bottom but found it more convenient when cleaning. Another benefit is the water being pulled into the tray is raised and will not pull in any debris that may laying on the bottom. This unit also makes ice considerably faster and the cubes are larger than the $400.00 unit I had before. I have no affiliation with the manufacture in any way, I highly recommend it.
