The distance inside the 2 sides of the U-shaped bracket is less, by about the thickness of 1 side of the bracket. The metal is too strong to bend precisely. And I don't want to take a wood file to either side of my front door at the top to make indentations to accommodate the hanger. It'll fit over any of my interior doors, because they're all 1-1/2 inches thick. But this means it will be loose. I'd return it, but am not sure I'll get one matching the dimensions described. This isn't the most disappointing of the few useless items I've ever gotten on Amazon, but it's pretty close.
