Candy, particularly hard tack candy is VERY hot compared to standard gravy or sauces which will not melt the rubber bushing. Obviously, cold prepared items like pancake batter don't pose a problem. I would NOT recommend purchasing this product for use with hard tack candy. Answer:	Though I haven't tried it, hushpuppies are dumplings which means they would require a much thicker dough than this item can handle. I wouldn't recommend this for that purpose
