User questions & answers

Question: Why won't my lid stay on
Answer: Because the plastic dasher/paddle gets warped (at first I thought it was from washing the paddle in the dishwasher, but I'm on my second machine after maybe five years and washing it in hot water after using it seems to have done the same thing so perhaps it's just from use) and so it doesn't revolve "flatly" in the circular groove in the clear plastic cover when it's placed on top. I find that eventually it seems to settle down and revolve evenly without any wobbling, so to speak. Rather than use tape, I've used a small but heavy pan with a base a bit larger than the top of the machine set on top of the clear plastic cover until it's revolving evenly - maybe the first five minutes of use. Other than that, and the need to use a hard - but not too hard: it has to have some flex - plastic utensil to remove the last of the frozen ice cream from the interior bottom and sides of the freezer bowl because it's made of aluminum and scratches incredibly easily, it's a terrific unit.
Question: my machine will not freeze the mixture after the tub in freezer for a week. its like cold milk with some ice. two different batches same results. Why
Answer: Quality ice cream from plain milk?? no way! I use half and half along with heavy cream and get the most delicious ice cream you can imagine! and in only 25 minutes. Also turn your freezer down. If your freezer is empty it may not even go to zero degrees! I clean and rinse the tub quickly and return it to the freezer quickly. Its still mostly frozen when I put it back in and only takes 2-3 hours to refreeze completely! I bought a second tub but never need to use it! This thing has worked perfectly for me and everyone loves my ice cream! The secret is in the better ingredients. more costly yes...but sooo worth it! My recipe: 3cups of half and half. 2cups of heavy cream. 1&1/2 cups of C&H sugar dissolved in the cream. 2 table spoons of imitation vanilla. 1 tiny pinch of salt. Try you will love it! Please don't order a round steak and expect a filet mignon. life does not happen that way. ENJOY!
Question: Is the interior of the mixing bowl stainless steel
Answer: The interior of the mixing bowl scratched after first use. So I don't think it is stainless steel
Question: Is Cuisinant ICE-30BC machine easier than Cuisinart ICE-21 to use
Answer: They both look exactly the same in function, its just the 21 is a bit smaller and has more plastic. Check this guy's video on Youtube and it breaks down the ICE-21. http://youtu.be/jPPdSCHBTR4And he did the same for the ICE-30BC: http://youtu.be/Q40vHKdJmpY

User questions & answers

Question: What are the dimensions of freezer bowl
Answer: 6" tall 7" wide
Question: I'm quite confused. The listing says that it doesn't use rock salt but these reviews indicate that it does. Salt or no salt
Answer: The confusion is being caused by having all three listed as if they were color options. The WHITE 68880 (left) and RED 68881 (middle) models are 1.5 qt and use a freezer container and NOT ROCK SALT OR ICE. The WHITE 68330N model (right) is a 4qt that uses rock salt and ice. All three are listed near the "Color" selection box on the their main pages and have the same pool of customer reviews.
Question: Does anyone know if you can buy the freezer bowls by themselves? I really like this machine and would love to have a couple of extra bowls
Answer: Yes, I finally called Hamilton Beach with the phone number off of there site and found that they do sell the freezer bowls by themselves for $9.99. But, they are out of stock for now and I was told to call back in couple of weeks. Hope this helps.
Question: The product description says no rock salt required, but most of the reviews mention using it. What's the story here
Answer: The confusion is being caused by having all three listed as if they were color options. The WHITE 68880 (left) and RED 68881 (middle) models are 1.5 qt and use a freezer container and NOT ROCK SALT OR ICE. The WHITE 68330N model (right) is a 4qt that uses rock salt and ice. User questions & answers

Question: Can this device make yogurt
Answer: The description says that it can make frozen yogurt - to just use the ice cream setting. Cook's has a delicious recipe for frozen ginger yogurt, including instructions on how to keep it from tasting chalky or being too "icy".
Question: Can I purchase extra bowls to freeze in refrigerator and if so, where do I go or what is the part number on Amazon to acquire them
Answer: I bought the Tovolo Ice cream tubs and they are very sturdy with a removable inner plastic liner for easy cleaning. The large bowl itself that fits inside the machine is not supposed to have ice cream frozen in it because it can damage it. I leave the empty bowl in my freezer until I'm ready to make a batch and then empty the contents into a Tovolo tub. I looked at other tubs but this brand seemed to have the best reviews, was reusable, and decent in price. They fit about 1.5 quarts and I have a little extra in the machine that I either eat or just put in a small Tupperware dish. I know you can go directly on the Cuisinart website if you need any part numbers for a specific model. I did see extra bowls for the machine on their site and on amazon. Just get your model number for your machine and type that in the search box.
Question: Does anyone know how this compares to the ICE-60W model
Answer: The ICE-70 is a step up from the ICE-60W model -- it has an auto count-down feature. I chose the ICE-70 over any other model based on this article on the Best Ice Cream makers: http://bit.ly/1TClJZl.
Question: Has anyone tried making Gelato? How does it turn out
Answer: Gelato turns out very good. My wife tried a few different variations of coffee flavored gelato and we were happy every single time.

Cuisinart ICE-20 Automatic 1-1/2-Quart Ice Cream Maker, White

Based on 1 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Creating up to 1-1/2 quarts of ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, or frozen drinks at home takes only about 20 minutes with this electric appliance, and salt and ice are not needed. After the machine's chilling chamber has been in the freezer for about eight hours the liquid between its walls becomes thoroughly frozen. The chamber then goes atop the power base, the unit's paddle goes into the chamber, the transparent top is locked in place, and the machine is turned on. Ingredients go into the chamber through an opening in the top as the paddle turns. The chamber chills the ingredients to whatever consistency is desired--though dense treats are hard to make because the paddle churns in air.

Chocolate chips, chopped fruit, nuts, and other special ingredients can be added toward the end. The nonstick chamber makes cleanup a snap. Storing it in the freezer ensures a frozen confection is only 20 to 40 minutes away when the mood strikes. The machine measures 10 inches in diameter and 15 inches high and weighs 9-1/2 pounds. It carries a three-year limited warranty. A detailed instruction booklet including many recipes comes included. --Fred Brack

  • User questions & answers

Question: Can you make ice cream using no eggs and in place of cream can you use soy milk, or almond milk
Answer: I don't use eggs with my ice cream. Unfortunately I have not used soy or almond milk. I have used heavy whipping cream, and I want to try original greek yogurt, or the vanilla. It could be interesting.
    Question: why won't it freeze
Answer: After owning two different ice cream makers and using them often, I learned a few dos and don'ts. One of them is never rush the freezing of the bowl. It must be frozen for at least 24 hours in your freezer set to 0°f. And it should be set back from the door or lid of the freezer. Try not to open the freezer during this time. Chill but do not freeze the paddle. Chill the mix at least 24 hours-do not freeze. During hot and humid weather, you will not get even soft ice cream if the area you are using is not out of drafts. Cover the hole at the top with a saucer of folded tea towel. The ice cream making process is a little fussy but well worth the results, really impresses the grandkids. Expect a frozen custard like consistency that you can repack and place in the freezer to ripen and firm up.
Question: Do I have to pre-chill the bowl in my refrigerator's freezer or is everything done in the Cuisinart Ice cream maker
Answer: Yes, you have to put the bowl in the freezer for 18-24 hours. I store my bowl in the freezer so it's always ready. The double walled bowl is filled with something that freezes and that how the ingredients freeze. The actual ice cream making time is only 25-30 minutes once the ingredients are put in the bowl.
Question: The mixture froze to the sides of the bowl and the rest remained watery. I did NOT add my ingredients before starting machine. Blade moves with bowl. Is this right
Answer: Once your mixture is good and ready, get the bowl out of the freezer and install it in place: the round opening should be up, and the cross blade should be at the bottom, with the external knob fitting in the little hole at the bottom of your bowl. Also the clear plastic dome must be locked in place on the motor base. Turn Cuisinart ON BEFORE you pour the mixture into the freezer bowl as instructed in the Cuisinart booklet. (NOTE: ingredients must be added to the freezer bowl after unit is turned on).

    User questions & answers

Question: can this ice cream maker make yogert and sorbit
Answer: I believe that you should be able to make both yogurt and sorbet.
Question: Does the ice cream freeze quickly
Answer: No it does not, after 1 hour and 15 mins only an inch thick outside layer resembled ice cream theh rest was like an ice. I am disappointed and looking for a better freezer.
Question: how many pounds of ice does it need for 1 batch of ice cream
Answer: I've never measured but would Put ice cubes in a clean old pillow case and hammer to crush up ice 2 layer with rock salt. Once I ran out of ice it had just showed and there was tons of fresh untouched snow I filled bucket with and used it to make up for lack of ice.YES IT WORKED I WAS making peach ice cream with pecan praline grinded coarsely ground u can use Almonds too 4 this one 2 swirl into finished ice cream😋1 of mybrilliant ideas It was a cheap Rival brand exactly like the Agua bucket here It worked GREAT W.CHURNING I Covered it with a towel draped over it than a folded up blanket to retain the temp and cold as possible check once in a while Please make mixture chill over night and can n mixture pulse canister and whipping parts give u a head startAlso whatever containers ubplan to when finished transfer too for freezer storage A few time I shutoff n mixed it up scraping the bottom n side it will be clump like but churning it will make it uniformly smoothed out I use part finely pulsed chopped fruit and save some larger chunks to add when finished b4 the praline ive a expensive pro gelato machine with a freezer unit No ice need or frozen bowl used just pour mixtures in set up turn on nake one flavor after another Big bucks but this makes better and creamer fluffier ice cream Italian ices sorbettos I even made a ice tea iced ices O highly recommend and I'm buying another As the other was bought in1990 oftene simpler things are better This rivals against a $600 Machine bought mid 90s thats also A HEAVY 50 LPS OH 1 MORE THING about this I make it None dairy VEGAN and its fabulously creamy whipped up delicious.
Question: I purchased this in 2011, but finally got around to opening it. There is no manual and no receipe. Do you have a link to one
Answer: I just received mine 2 months ago and had no manual or recipe book in the packaging. I found this simple recipe for Old Fashioned Vanilla ice cream and my family loves it. It is not the custard type so requires no cooking. 2 cups heavy cream. 2 cups whole milk. 3/4 cup of sugar. 2 teaspoons good vanilla ( I use one vanilla bean). Pinch of salt. Whisk all the ingredients together until smooth. Pour into ice cream canister. Layer ice and rock salt or ice cream salt in the ice cream maker's bucket and turn it on. It takes about 25 minutes until soft serve and then I put it in a freezer container until hardened. It works well for us. Amazon says you can contact the manufacturer for a manual but I just googled recipes for it. Hope his helps!

    • Pre cool setting to optimal operating temperature

    User questions & answers

    Question: What is the warranty
Answer: The link below is to the Breville warranty page.I did have some problems with a return, however the Breville customer Service folks cleared it up.http://www.brevilleusa.com/warranty/
Question: Will this machine make half batches
Answer: I have never tried to make a half batch. I have made batches less than a full batch and it worked fine. Breville only wants you to use 3-1/2 cups of liquid so a full batch is only a little over a quart anyway. Most of the recipes in the gelato/ice cream books are just about right for this machine - about 3-1/2 cups of liquid. I suspect most of the machines on the market are about the same.
Question: Can the ice cream really come out firm on the hardest level? I hate soft serve and like firm scoops
Answer: It will not be firm like what you have out of your freezer. It will be more like soft serve, you need to put it in your freezer for a bit after it is done. But really, that's the way all ice cream is, even what you get in a creamery. I actually returned this unit and bought a Cuisnart instead. I wasn't pleased with the paddle on this unit. It seemed very flimsy and when the ice cream got thicker had a hard time stirring. At one point it even stopped stirring and burned up the bearings. They replaced it for me at no charge but by that point I had already decided to change brands. If you look at it and compare to the Cuisnart you will see what I mean, the paddle just needs a little reinforcement IMO.
Question: Hello , I am quiet not able to decide between Breville and Cusinart ICE100, also my concern is does 12 hardness settings actually work as described
Answer: I love my Breville. The consistency settings range between sorbet, frozen yogurt, gelato, and ice cream (softer to harder). I think the settings work, but I like to make ice cream, so I now just keep it on the hardest setting. That setting will give you the consistency of something near a soft serve. One of the reasons I chose this one over the Cuisinart ICE100 is that it has the "auto" setting. You cannot always gauge how long it will take when using different bases and styles of ice cream (this one has both options). Additionally, you can set it to make a sound when it is time for mix-ins and when it is ready. Also, it has the "pre-cool" feature (which I love!) that will get the temperature right before adding the mix (I compare it to pre-heating an oven). Finally, the "keep cool" function REALLY comes in handy (if you have used the freezer bowl types, you know that time is of the essence once it is done!) I'm glad I went with this one. P.S. I HIGHLY recommend using Sweet Bliss containers to store your ice cream. They are the best I have found or seen anywhere for storage, and you can write on them w/ a Sharpie. They are so sturdy you can reuse them (but I usually give them as gifts). Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=bl_sr_kitchen?ie=UTF8&field-brandtextbin=Sweet+Bliss+Containers&node=284507.

Deni 5000 Scoop Factory Compact Automatic Ice Cream and Frozen Dessert Maker

Based on 16 reviews Check latest price

    Product description

Whether you crave an indulgence of rich chocolate ice cream, a light and frosty raspberry freeze, or a batch of frozen margaritas, this frozen dessert maker is ready to mix and freeze 1-1/2 quarts of your favorite treat at a moment's notice. The canister requires a minimum of 8 hours to freeze but dessert fans can store it in the freezer at all times for making spur-of-the-moment frozen treats. The patented canister has walls that are liquid-filled for even freezing and double insulated to keep the bowl colder for a longer period of time. When ingredients are ready, the stir paddle goes inside the canister and the plastic lid locks onto the canister. The lid is clear for checking that desserts reach the proper custard-like thickness and has an opening for easily adding chunky ingredients, such as chocolate chips or cookie dough, toward the end of processing. The powerful 38-watt motor fits onto the lid and the power switch starts the action. With the ice cream maker running, cooks pour their mixed recipes through the top of the lid and wait anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes for the ingredients to reach the proper consistency. The compact unit doesn't take up much counter space and, unlike more complicated ice cream makers, doesn't require hand cranking and needs no salt or ice in its recipes. This appliance comes with a book of 40 recipes and is covered by a one-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde
