Answer:	Oh hell no...ruined ours doing that. The grey film that develops literally comes off on your hands... Amazing product actually....as long as you hand-wash it:)
Question:	why is it "not dishwasher safe
Answer:	It is not dishwasher safe because of the coating that is used on the aluminum. When the scoop goes through the dishwasher a grey film is developed and no matter how much you try and wash it off, it won't come off and so you get a grey film on every scoop of ice cream. It is possible that there is some impact to the special liquid that is contained within the handle but that wasn't as noticeable as the grey filmed ice cream. I should have taken a picture of our scoop after the kids put it through the dishwasher, that would have said a 1000 words.
