Answer:	Myles: Being that is a ratchet type pruner, you can cut larger branches than a regular pruner that size will cut. I cut a branch that was a little over an inch and a half. I had to keep chomping on it but it got through it. Anything larger requires a larger pruner. Nice pruner for the price. Jim P

Answer:	When mine was brand new , I had a similar situation. I had to squeeze the handle so hard to get it to close it was like the blade was cutting into the bottom jaw. Afterwards it began to work properly. I guess it needed to be "broke in" sort to speak. Still the best pair of cutters I have ever used. In fact I am going to get another pair this summer.
