Question: | My Peugot pepper mill bottom light does not work, never did. How can it be fixed |
Answer: | Ah! Ours worked and then didn't. We changed the battery and VOILA! We had lights yet again! |
Question: | Where is this manufactured |
Answer: | France. It is supposed to be the best in the marketplace. |
Question: | How much does it hold |
Answer: | I never measured the amount of peppercorns it holds but it lasts awhile if a small family is using it. DO NOT use large peppercorns as they will get stuck in the grinder. |
Question: | How do you remove and replace the batteries & what size batteries are required |
Answer: | The grinder uses AA batteries. To replace them, you simply open the device by twisting the top counter-clockwise. The batteries are in the top section. |
Product description
Exceptionally well-crafted, the Paris pepper and salt mills from Peugeot are traditionally styled, Brushed stainless steel finish. This particular model offers the U-Select feature, which designates six settings on the base of the mill for precision grinding ranging from extra-coarse to powdery. The difference between the salt and pepper mills lies in the grinding mechanism. Peugeot pepper mills use case-hardened-steel grinding heads with two sizes of grooves; the larger grooves crack the peppercorns in half and direct them into the smaller grooves, which grind them much more finely than most mills. The grinding mechanism in Peugeot salt mills is purposefully constructed with 18/10 stainless-steel, which won't corrode from prolonged contact with the salt. The top of each mill unscrews for adding peppercorns and salt, while the round ball nut can be loosened or tightened to vary the coarseness of the grind.Peugeot Mills are partially filled with salt at the factory in France as part of final assembly and testing
- Peugeot Paris U-Select mills in with Brushed stainless steel finish.
- U-Select feature offers 6 precision-grind settings, from extra-coarse to powdery
- Brass nut on top unscrews for refilling; comes partially filled
- Lifetime warranty on grinding mechanism

User questions & answers
Question: | How do you tell them apart |
Answer: | You really cannot. Only way is to look at the bottom before each use. Salt and Pepper leave traces on the plastic. These are not Stainless, but brushed in finish. That was my mistake. |

There's nothing quite like freshly ground spices to add a gourmet dash to food as it's being prepared or a custom finishing touch as it's being served. Fresh-ground pepper retains the essential oils of the peppercorns and offers more of that spice's pungent flavor. This wooden pepper mill is an ideal size for use during cooking or at the dinner table. It's 12 inches tall in a traditional shape with a rounded top section that turns to operate the Peugeot grinding mechanism in the base. The little brass knob on top unscrews so the top can be lifted off and the space inside filled with your choice of peppercorns. This mill is also available in a white, black, or dark walnut finish. --Marcie Bovetz

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this grinder have any plastic parts |
Answer: | There's a plastic ring with three spokes at the inside top of the grinder that keeps the central screw centered. It doesn't really see wear and tear and it isn't likely to break. We are on our second Peugeot grinder. The first one lasted 30+ years and the problems were with the metal parts, not this plastic ring. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Hello; I have the Nancy acrylic wet salt version (32456) and it did not come with instructions to adjust the fineness of the grind. Can anyone advise |
Answer: | If you have the Peugeot 32487 Paris Chef u'Select mill, they are adjusted by turning the bezel at the bottom of the grinder, not the screw on the cap (as is common for other grinders). |
Question: | can this be used for pepper instead of salt |
Answer: | Pepper mill can't be used for salt, according to the official website. Didn't mention otherwise. But the grinding part is clearly different. |
Question: | Do these get fingerprint marks easily |
Answer: | No. Ours are like brushed finish so no marks here. |
Question: | Is the interior plastic |
Answer: | It is plastic, and once it gets above the grinding area it becomes a straight tube with an inside diameter of approximately 1 inch. Below the area which holds the peppercorns it expands in size to 1.5inch ID and 1.94 inch OD with "key way" slots that allow an interface with the other parts. This would be an expensive part to machine out of stainless, and since it is not subject to wear, is a logical engineering choice. |

Product description
Pepper is universal. One of the civilization's oldest spices (along with its partner salt), it graces tables all over the world. When in a country where I don't speak the language and my soup needs a little pick-me-up, I just mime grinding pepper over it, and the waiter knows what I need. This wooden pepper grinder from Peugeot comes in a classic style, reminiscent of a rook from a chess set. To fill, unscrew the knob on top, remove the upper section, and pour in the peppercorns. How tightly the knob is screwed back on determines the grind. For a little variety, try a mix of black, green, and white peppercorns. Be sure to also check out the matching salt grinder. --Dana Van Nest

User questions & answers
Question: | Did yours come with some pepper corns in it? not sure if i received a used one. they spilled in the bag. the top came loose during shipping |
Answer: | Mine came with some peppercorns in it, which it should not: it is not labelled as containing food nor advertised here as containing peppercorns. Don't know where they peppercorns come from, are they organic or inorganic, or are they imported by the distributor inside the pepper mills without meeting U.S. FDA labelling, food safety, and pesticide requirements, or are they indicative of a used returned mill being resold? My past purchases from other stores has no peppercorns in them. |
Question: | Where is this made |
Answer: | It is made in France. |
Question: | I have a peugeot shiny blue salt grinder and the wood has split at the base. if i'm to buy another i don't want this to happen. which is stronger |
Answer: | The wood model in my case works perfect |
Question: | How hard is a pepper corn to grind compared to a coffee bean |
Answer: | 1. I suspect that a peppercorn is much easier to grind than coffee. 2. I tried a small coffee bean and it does fit. I would be concerned that the grinding mechanism might become clogged at some point since coffee is so oily. Occasional use might be okay but heavy use would be problematic. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can you use the salt as a pepper |
Answer: | NO! Absolutely not! Salt crystals require a different type of grinding mechanism, particularly because it is a corrosive substance, and the salt crystal is of a harder consistency than peppercorns. It will make short work of the hardened steel burr grinders used in the pepper mill, particularly Peugeots. Some pepper mills which are constructed using ceramic burr grinders might work, but as a rule salt should NEVER be used in a pepper mill, unless you plan to toss the pepper mill at some point in the future. |
Question: | Would this work for flax or chia seeds |
Answer: | Not sure. Never tried. If they are the same density and hardness I would think so. |
Question: | The grind selector on mine has become stiff and hard to turn, any advise? I’ve filled a request for help form with Peugeot but hope for any advise |
Answer: | Have you tried cleaning it? Sometimes it is because something caught in the grinder mechanism. I have been using this for many, many years and it is working fine. I strongly recommend buying this due to the warranty. |
Question: | The grind selector on mine has become stiff and hard to turn? issue is only a grind 'selector ring' at the bottom, grinder works, yes i cleaned it |
Answer: | Have had a problem when refilling and having trouble getting it aligned to close! |

PEUGEOT: France, since 1810. Peugeot mills are renowned by chefs and gourmet cooks the word over for the consistent grind results they produce, their incredible resilience and proven reliability. Compromise is not a word that fits into the Peugeot vocabulary. For each spice, there is one – and only one – Peugeot grinding mechanism: peppercorns; coarse dry salt; chilies; herbs and spices; wet salts; and nutmeg. Add the coffee mechanism, which started it all and there are seven unique Peugeot mechanisms. Each is designed to derive the most flavor and greatest aroma from its complementary spice. Aesthetically pleasing, Peugeot mills deliver the height of quality, durability, reliability and innovation; making these mills the ones to which all others are compared. The high quality beech wood used in Peugeot mills is grown, harvested, dried, shaped and finished in France. For Paris u'Select mills, the grind is adjusted by turning the ring at the bottom of the mill. Turning the ring in one direction makes a finer grind; turning in the other makes it coarser. Once the grind size is set, it will stay in place until the user changes it. This mill is equipped with Peugeot's legendary pepper grinding mechanism. Made of case-hardened steel, it has received additional treatment against wear and corrosion. Its double-row of helix-shaped claws grab and crack each peppercorn, before drawing it down to the teeth for the perfect grind.
- Made of beech wood with stylish, classic white lacquer varnish
- White provides contemporary design, suitable for both modern and classical kitchens
- U'Select provides coarse to fine grind; the grind is adjusted by turning the ring at the bottom of the mill
- Pepper mill mechanism features 2 stage channeling and grinding process which cracks the peppercorns before they are ground for the freshest taste
- All mill mechanisms are made of treated stainless steel; Made in France
User questions & answers
Question: | Was this mill supposed to arrive with pepper in it already or has my mill been used |
Answer: | No, I made no assumption that there would be pepper in the mill and it arrived empty. |
Question: | Is there any plastic part inside |
Answer: | According to the manufacturer. there are no plastic parts inside a Peugeot mill |
Question: | Can your pepper mill grind salt |
Answer: | No, the grinding mechanism is made out of metal, which would corrode. Salt grinders are made out of ceramic. |
Question: | Would the white color get stained easily |
Answer: | Does not seem to get stained. It's a lacquer finish nearest I can tell. Wipes clean |

User questions & answers
Question: | i have a pair of peugeot elis salt and pepper mills. the salt mill does not work. i've replace the 6 batteries (twice) and still won't work. help |
Answer: | I had this issue when I made the mistake of putting wet/grey salt in the mill. Light wouldn't work, either. Emptied, let it air dry and filled it with dry Himalayan salt. Works again but the wet salt kind of corroded the mill and a chemical smell still lingers. Sad face. These are expensive but good mills. Don't be like me; read the specific instructions before use! |
Question: | Do the mills come with individual trays to collect debris? I notice there’s an Alpha Tray for additional purchase |
Answer: | Yes, they each have their own little tray to sit on that catches the salt and pepper bits. Two little black trays, square with a circle in the middle, made of heavy duty plastic. I think the additional trays for purchase are just a fancy upgrade. I have been happy with the set and individual trays the set comes with. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a salt mill or pepper mill? Both are listed in the title |
Answer: | I use it as a pepper mill, but I don't see why you couldn't use large salt crystals too. It's just a grinder at the end of the day. Again, I only use it for pepper. |
