Answer:	I am trying it by adjusting the little screw on the bottom of the plastic shield to make the opening a little wider. Be sure to use the Auto two runs so it takes off the peeling on the first pass and should get the pith on the second.

Answer:	Not really. They are designed to cut into citrus without cutting into the fruit below, so you can more easily remove the peel. Besides, apple peels have lots of nutrients in them, why wouldn't you want to eat them?

The end that looks like the head of a toothbrush with no bristles is the part you drag through the peel. To be honest, I'm not sure what the purpose is for the raised rectangle. The tear-shaped part is what you use - pointy edge first. I keep some of these at school and my students ask to use them because they are so much better than using just your fingers!
