It will go through it but the wires aren't a heavy gauge and strains them a bit much you still have to cut off the stem just seems easier to cut with a knife. The first wire set that cuts through is the star pattern if it was the straight line pattern it may be worth it for strawberries.

Answer:	I just bought this slicer last week because the wires on Good Cook slicer I have used for many years have gotten stretched and catch on the plastic. As you suspected food does get mashed down into the base and so it doesn't slice all the way through. Since the bottom mashes it's a mess if you try and finish slicing through. I tried it on eggs and strawberries with the same results. If I can find my receipt I am taking it back for a refund.

Answer:	I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT! After putting it in dishwasher several times (as well as rinsing off before) I found a black residue powder was left on it that came off on my fingers. My assumption is that it is NOT aluminum but rather aluminum coated. Once the coating was gone whatever is left behind cannot be healthy. Threw mine away and bought a plastic one. If you have one HANDWASH ONLY, c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y!

Answer:	Some Steel products can't be in water for long peroids at a time. had it been made in the U.S.A. it would have been coated with a sealer. I had a pressure cooker pan that I boiled a large amount of eggs in and it turned black/ charcoal. I tried white vinegar and some of it came off. Products not made in the United States do not hold up well. I had mine for a week and the wiring came free and I threw it away. I would never buy this product again. Spend the money and buy American made. They are about $5.00 to $7.00 for a better product.
