Answer:	I originally thought this didn't actually cut the can, but it does. However, the edge isn't ragged like a normal can opener, and I've not had an issue with cutting myself on it. Gotta say I haven't attempted it, nor licked the can as your pup would. But it may be a better alternative. The cut edge is smooth and straight up, not pointing in to the can.

Answer:	Occasionally I get a can that is hard to open. I had one can that I actually turned upside down but 95 % of the time it works great. If you have had the can opener for a while it could be dirty. I would also agree with the answer nathan provided.

Answer:	I don't immerse it or put it in the dishwasher, I just hand wash it and dry it quickly. It never touches the food in the can, so it doesn't get that dirty.

Answer:	Not if they are the stackable cans where the bottoms are designed to nestle inside the top. But if the bottom is exactly like the top then yes. I love this can opener so much! I find myself saying it out loud almost every time I use it! Lol!
Question:	I was cleaning the opener and it came apart in three pieces. Is this normal or suppose to do it for cleaning purposes
Answer:	Yes the edges are smooth. The can opener breaks the seal between the lid and the top edge of the can so it can then be lifted off. It is no where near as sharp as it would be if opened with a standard can opener that cuts the lid. With that being said, I am disappointed with this opener. After owning it just a few months, it has started skipping around the lid. It's not as efficient as it once was. :( I found an identical model to this one at Walmart for $8.00 that works just as well, so far no skipping.

Answer:	To be quite honest, I am not sure. A lot depends on the manufacturer's definition of "lifetime". I have several of the older type of can openers that are still working after 30 years. While I've had this one for only several months, I don't see how the "lifetime" of this type. The concept is similar with the exception of the angle of the cut. Due to the cut, it takes more pressure to turn the handle. Now you have my $0.02. A very positive point is that it allows me to use the removed top as a lid. This is especially helpful with cans of dog food. I personally am very happy with it.

Answer:	The opening wheel (not really a blade) does NOT touch the contents in the can. It only contacts the outside edge of the can rim. So the food is not contaminated. Sometimes, some of the food leaks out and gets of the wheel. I use a small brush dipped in warm dish water to clean the wheel. A tooth brush works great.

Answer:	I have used a similar opener to open cat food cans and I found that (possibly because of the design of the can) that cans that have the "pull-tab" type of opening often would leave "little" bits of metal (from the can lid) in the food. When I discovered this I, of course, freaked, because I didn't want my cat to ingest these little bits of metal. Consequently, I stopped using the can opener and went back to using the "pull-tab". (NOTE: I thought that using this type of opener would allow me to "seal' the remaining contents if any with the "smooth-edged" can top. I have since found silicone caps that are much better than a metal can top and now them on all my cat food cans.)

Answer:	If you are speaking about the big cans yes that's the reason why I brought it. I would not use it to open cans that need to be drained like tuna because the can opens from the side.

Answer:	I'm amazed that some people report 10+ years of consistent performance. Ours worked for maybe 4-5 years before becoming more difficult to use, and it is not as though we open a lot of cans. It has now been 9 years and it is almost unusable. It still opens some cans so long as you go around several times. But it has lost most of its convenience.

Answer:	Before trying to open the cans, set the opener on the can, and turn it backwards, to ensure that it is setting down fully on the can. Then turn the handles to cut the rim of the can. Once it cuts through, it should be easier to turn. Turn the handles backwards, to let the blades release the rim of the can.

Answer:	I have this before it works on all kinds of cans. No sharp edges.

Answer:	I originally thought this won't actually cut the can, but it did. However, the edge isn't ragged like a normal can opener, and I've not had an issue with cutting myself on it. Have to say I haven't attempted it, nor licked the can as your pup would. But it may be a better alternative. The cut edge is smooth and straight up, not pointing in to the can. Help this will help.
