Answer: Certainly you can cover the shelf with 1/4 inch or 1/8 inch plywood or something similar. I put my shelf over a clothes rod to use it for men's hats. It works wonderfully. When properly adjusted, it's really quite rigid.

While we are proud of our recent history, there is a backstory. So travel with us to the small town of South Pittsburg, Tennessee at the end of the 19th Century. Nestled at the base of the Appalachian Mountain’s Cumberland Plateau and on the banks of the Tennessee River, the town was abuzz with new opportunities.

In 1896 Joseph Lodge began a cast iron foundry, named in honor of his minister, Rev. Joseph Hayden Blacklock. Family owned, our origins were humble and our products varied, from stoves, to skillets and kitchen sinks.

As each decade passed, Lodge developed a business model to continually update and improve equipment and foundry practices. Work was labor intensive, with all of our cookware poured and cleaned by hand.

The 1950s saw the installation new molding machinery, mechanized sand delivery systems, the construction of a gas fired aluminum furnace to cast patterns for the production of sand mold impressions and a machine to clean castings.

When the introduction of new cookware metals and coatings increased competition in the 1960s, Lodge countered with a Disamatic automatic molding machine. Two years later, Lodge added an electric furnace to operate the Disamatic molding and pouring system, outpacing the capacity of the coke-fired cupola, at lower cost.

After in the introduction of seasoned cast iron cookware, Lodge broke ground for our foundry expansion. With completion of the first phase in the fall of 2014, the expansion includes a new melt system, an additional pouring/molding line and most importantly—new American jobs!

In more ways than he could have ever imagined, Joseph Lodge would not recognize the business he started over a century ago. Lodge continues to be family owned and we are the sole manufacturer of cast iron cookware in US, producing over 120 different foundry seasoned cast iron items for worldwide gourmet, outdoor and restaurant markets.

Answer: Works great on our induction cooktop on either side. Heats very rapidly if you want, but of course the way to heat cast iron is slowly so it comes to the temp you want to cook at. Cast iron is of course way better than the clad cookware that can get loud from vibrations as the different layers absorb the magnetic energy at different rates. This also doubles as a great defrosting plate from stuff from the freezer. Your great-great grandchildren will be glad you bought this as they're using it.

Answer: Yes, they have a nice size loop for hanging.

Answer: No loops. You can't hang them. Only store flat.
Question: How could anyone leave these on a pan over an open flame and expect them not to burn? they're fabric pot holders. come on, people
Answer: The handle doesn't sit over an open flame, the flame is under the bottom of the pan. If you have flames just blasting up the side of the pan, you need to turn down the burner.It is not necessary to have the flame up so high. In fact, it's ridiculous. And if you are really worried about that, the holders do slip right off. You can easily slip them right back on when needed. I use these, am speaking from experience and have not had the type of issue you imagine. Keep the flame at a sane level and everything will be fine.KEEP CALM AND USE COMMON SENSE!!
Question: Are these stiff? Will they adhere to the handle of the pan easily? No cast iron pan, just for asimple fry pan

Answer: Lip is about one half inch and rounded. I would never use this pan with more than a coating of oil. Using more could cause a spill and fire.
Question: I like to make small personal pizzas, will this work instead of the 14" pizza pan which is too big
Answer: It is excellent for this purpose, but you should also consider the Lodge pizza griddle. I preheat to 500, insert my pizza on a pizza screen and then slide off onto the cast iron after 4-5 minutes. I lightly oil the screen but not the pan. The 14" griddle is a terrific pan for many purposes, and it retains higher heat even if you're only using a small part of the surface. Some people use it as a "pizza stone." I use both these pans very frequently.
Question: Does this pan work on an induction stove
Answer: It works.... but you've got to really watch it ... The cast Iron ware I use (1 vintage wagner bought at a yard sale, and 2 new lodge products) gets too hot and in turn heats the induction plate so high it turns off... I have a salton portable cook top from costco (similar to ASIN:B00FAD57SC Salton Induction Cooker Energy efficiency 300W-1800W, 140F-465F)

Answer: The Lodge skillet is EXCELLENT tool in making a variety of foods including rotis/chapatis/breads, grilling etc. Have been using it for the last 20 yrs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Answer: Yes the rule if a magnet will stick to the bottom it is induction ready I have only used mine on my induction cooktop.

Answer: 1. season your salmon with some oil seasoning paste (oil + seasoning+ salt+ other spices of your choice). Let rest for 10-15 mins for the oil seasoning paste to be absorbed into the fish. If you don't like highly-seasoned foods, then make sure you buy good quality salmon, and you can just season it with some salt and a thin layer of oil, then adding some fresh lemon juice before serving. If you want to skip the oil too, then you need the part of the salmon that has more fat)2. Heat the pan until very very very hot, you don't need to put oil into the pan.3. Use medium high heat. Put the fish with the side you want to present on the plate DOWN. Seal for 2-4 mins depending on the thickness of your salmon.4. Flip the fish when you see the meat is almost half way cooked (you will notice the cooked part has a slightly different color)5. Turn OFF the heat or turn the heat down to low, because the heat from the pan will cook the meat for you and this process will prevent from over-cooking your fish.6. Cook for about 2 to 3 mins or until you see the color of the fish meat is slightly pinkish and when you press the fish with your finger the meat will not bounce back.7. Serve with some freshly cut lemon wedges, the squeeze the lemon juice on the fish before eating.

Answer: Cast iron cookware is my favorite! I usually just rinse with hot water and use a mild scrubber on mine. After some time, however, my cast iron gets buildup on the sides - I put the pans in the self-cleaning oven and they come out like new. Answer: Much better. I have this Lodge and the LC enamel version. Trust me on this - never buy this style pan with enamel coating. Grill type pans are more difficult to clean because of the ridges, nooks & crannies. Because cast iron seasons better and becomes more non-stick than enamel, it is MUCH easier to clean with use. My LC is in the garage awaiting disposal. I love LC, but their grill pans should be avoided.

Answer: It is one of many oils that can be used for seasoning carbon steel pans so the answer is yes. You will get arguments as to which is better just like is Ford better than Chevrolet. Season the carbon steel pans the same steps as Cast Iron. If the pan has been used, make certain it is absolutely clean before seasoning.
Question: It makes my pan blotchy? Why
Answer: You can, in fact, I use it to oil my nonstick pans before cooking in them. They're getting a little long in the tooth and I recently saw that you should oil nonstick pans as well as cast iron pans.

Answer: I used the white one as a shower curtain for two years. The surface was tile. I experienced no rusting at all, when I took it down to move it looked good as new. It is very important to clean both the pad and the wall well with water and let it air dry before mounting, then follow the mounting instructions carefully.

Because: (1) As of 1/3/20, Lodge -- the manufacturer -- is selling these lids on its own website for $31.99, and that's before taxes and shipping. The Amazon price is quite reasonable in comparison, especially for folks whose annual Amazon Prime membership has covered their shipping costs. Answer: These are made of plastic, much like a spatula you would use on Teflon pans. I think they would be fine to use on your nonstick pans.

Answer: I have used the scraper when brown meat in the iron pot and then scrap to get the scraps up. But, I am also now using it when I cook my oatmeal in a stove pot.Eveything just comes away from the sides of the pot. I put the rounded edge toward the curve of the pan or pot. Hope this help.

Answer: Depends on your pan. I use these on my enamel coated cast iron, the metal will ruin the finish. If you have roughed up cast iron, I would use metal/chain mail then season well.

Answer: They are not heat resistant and cannot be used while the pan is hot. Warm, sure, but not while hot. I melted one of mine slightly due to the pan being too hot while scraping.

While we are proud of our recent history, there is a backstory. So travel with us to the small town of South Pittsburg, Tennessee at the end of the 19th Century. Nestled at the base of the Appalachian Mountain’s Cumberland Plateau and on the banks of the Tennessee River, the town was abuzz with new opportunities.

In 1896 Joseph Lodge began a cast iron foundry, named in honor of his minister, Rev. Joseph Hayden Blacklock. Family owned, our origins were humble and our products varied, from stoves, to skillets and kitchen sinks.

As each decade passed, Lodge developed a business model to continually update and improve equipment and foundry practices. Work was labor intensive, with all of our cookware poured and cleaned by hand.

The 1950s saw the installation new molding machinery, mechanized sand delivery systems, the construction of a gas fired aluminum furnace to cast patterns for the production of sand mold impressions and a machine to clean castings.

When the introduction of new cookware metals and coatings increased competition in the 1960s, Lodge countered with a Disamatic automatic molding machine. Two years later, Lodge added an electric furnace to operate the Disamatic molding and pouring system, outpacing the capacity of the coke-fired cupola, at lower cost.

The Clean Water and Air Acts of 1970 led American companies to install new equipment to meet the pollution control laws. Lodge accepted the standards by replacing the old electric furnaces and adding a second Disamatic molding machine.

Not only did the updates meet the requirements of the Clean Air and Water legislation, by 1976 our automated processes produced as many molds in an hour as one man’s daily productivity 30 years earlier.

With the switch from antiquated electric furnaces to environmentally sound induction furnaces, 1991 proved to be a pivotal juncture in the standards of Lodge Manufacturing Company. The use of magnetic energy to produce heat changed our status from a Large Quantity Generator of Hazardous Waste to a Small Quantity Generator, and we received the 1994 Tennessee Governor’s Award for Excellence in Hazardous Waste Reduction.

Today, Lodge Manufacturing Company maintains a zero hazardous waste stream foundry, earning accolades from the environmental and manufacturing communities.

Answer: 1. season your salmon with some oil seasoning paste (oil + seasoning+ salt+ other spices of your choice). Let rest for 10-15 mins for the oil seasoning paste to be absorbed into the fish. If you don't like highly-seasoned foods, then make sure you buy good quality salmon, and you can just season it with some salt and a thin layer of oil, then adding some fresh lemon juice before serving. If you want to skip the oil too, then you need the part of the salmon that has more fat)2. Heat the pan until very very very hot, you don't need to put oil into the pan.3. Use medium high heat. Put the fish with the side you want to present on the plate DOWN. Seal for 2-4 mins depending on the thickness of your salmon.4. Flip the fish when you see the meat is almost half way cooked (you will notice the cooked part has a slightly different color)5. Turn OFF the heat or turn the heat down to low, because the heat from the pan will cook the meat for you and this process will prevent from over-cooking your fish.6. Cook for about 2 to 3 mins or until you see the color of the fish meat is slightly pinkish and when you press the fish with your finger the meat will not bounce back.7. Serve with some freshly cut lemon wedges, the squeeze the lemon juice on the fish before eating.

Answer: The 8.25" skillet has an approx. 4.25" handle and this silicone handle cover will fit it perfectly. The 6.25" skillet has an approx. 3.5" handle and this item will be loosely fitting. It won't fall off the 6.25" skillet, but it will slide off 1.25" before stopping. Measurements are from a brand new 8.25" Lodge skillet and a very old 6.25" Lodge skillet.

Answer: Dear T. Erickson:I've used the "LODGE"-brand Striped HOT/Heat-Resistant Cast Iron cookware Handle Covers for well-OVER a decade now, and these work Very, VERY WELL, overall!! We just purchased one of "Lodge's" Silicon Hot/Heat-Resistant Handle Covers in LATE Summer of 2015 for 1st time....It works "OK", BUT: For the money, buy a PAIR (Or however many You want, naturally!) of the Striped Heat Resistant i.e.: fabric-version Handle Covers pictured, and SAVE Your money on the Silicon-version! The Silicon-version is MORE "Gimmick" than "Good" product quite frankly (!!), and depending on what type of cast iron utensil I'm using>>ESPECIALLY griddles & shallow skillets that lay CLOSE to HOT burners & TOPs of stoves (!!)>>I've come close to really BURNING my darn hand pretty seriously a few times using the Silicon-version over past 3-to-4 months since We've had darn thing....I've almost NEVER done this w/ the "fabric"-versions pictured to left, using these for a decade++ (Unless I was NOT "paying attention", Or doing something "Stupid"!!). Bottomline: I wouldn't waste the money buying another Silicon "heat-resistant" handle cover for cast iron cookware!! HOPE this helps in Your decision-making process.BEST of Luck & Regards,Robert L. Seasoned cast iron propelled Lodge from the position of a regional manufacturer to the national stage, with Good Housekeeping presenting a 'Good Buy' Award for the product enhancement. Our appearance on the national stage expanded throughout the first decade of the new century, with record sales leading Lodge to the largest expansion in our history.

While we are proud of our recent history, there is a backstory. So travel with us to the small town of South Pittsburg, Tennessee at the end of the 19th Century. Nestled at the base of the Appalachian Mountain’s Cumberland Plateau and on the banks of the Tennessee River, the town was abuzz with new opportunities.

In 1896 Joseph Lodge began a cast iron foundry, named in honor of his minister, Rev. Joseph Hayden Blacklock. Family owned, our origins were humble and our products varied, from stoves, to skillets and kitchen sinks.

As each decade passed, Lodge developed a business model to continually update and improve equipment and foundry practices. Work was labor intensive, with all of our cookware poured and cleaned by hand.

The 1950s saw the installation new molding machinery, mechanized sand delivery systems, the construction of a gas fired aluminum furnace to cast patterns for the production of sand mold impressions and a machine to clean castings.

When the introduction of new cookware metals and coatings increased competition in the 1960s, Lodge countered with a Disamatic automatic molding machine. Two years later, Lodge added an electric furnace to operate the Disamatic molding and pouring system, outpacing the capacity of the coke-fired cupola, at lower cost.

The Clean Water and Air Acts of 1970 led American companies to install new equipment to meet the pollution control laws. Lodge accepted the standards by replacing the old electric furnaces and adding a second Disamatic molding machine.

Not only did the updates meet the requirements of the Clean Air and Water legislation, by 1976 our automated processes produced as many molds in an hour as one man’s daily productivity 30 years earlier.

With the switch from antiquated electric furnaces to more efficient induction furnaces, 1991 proved to be a pivotal juncture in the green standards of Lodge Manufacturing Company. The use of magnetic energy to produce heat changed our status from a Large Quantity Generator of Hazardous Waste to a Small Quantity Generator, and we received the 1994 Tennessee Governor’s Award for Excellence in Hazardous Waste Reduction.

Today, Lodge Manufacturing Company maintains a zero hazardous waste stream foundry, earning accolades from the environmental and manufacturing communities.

Eleven years after in the introduction of seasoned cast iron cookware, Lodge broke ground for our foundry expansion. With completion of the first phase in the fall of 2014, the expansion includes a new melt system, an additional pouring/molding line and most importantly—new American jobs!

In more ways than he could have ever imagined, Joseph Lodge would not recognize the business he started over a century ago. Lodge continues to be family owned and we are the sole manufacturer of cast iron cookware in US, producing over 120 different foundry seasoned cast iron items for worldwide gourmet, outdoor and restaurant markets.
