Answer:	Hi! I didn't have a chemical odor with this mat. That being said, why don't you try soaking it in a tub that has a few inches of warm water that has had baking soda mixed in it. That should remove the smell.

Question:	Are they cotton or terry cloth ? I'd like to use them for embroidery projects and do not want a pile to them
Answer:	They are cotton but not broad cloth or muslem almost like a coarse linnen. I have done some embroidery on mine. I like the homespun look. They are thin and very absorbent They remind me of the diapers I used on my 50 yr old daughters lol, and would probably make great prefolded diapers themselves. They get softer with laundry. For as thin as they are they are quite durable and have some that are 10 years + old (not from here but looked very similar). They bleach well, you will want to take that into consideration with the embroidery. With them being bright white you will probably want to bleach them when they stain, or could probably pre-dye if you desired so. Mine have a nice neat 1\4 inch hem on all 4 sides that ironed neatly and flat. I would love to get these embroidered as a gift I am sure whoever you have in mind will enjoy them and hopefully appreciate your efforts

Answer:	I haven't used them to make cheese, but I have used them to make latkes (hash browns). They worked quite well. The starchy liquid extruded through the thin cloth and no flavor was added.

Answer:	Great question. In my experience, acrylic paint will stick to anything it has a mind to. If you're looking to paint lovely designs on these wonderful flour sack towels, I would definitely look into sacrificing one as your "test" towel and trying out some techniques and methods on it before settling into working on the others. I've had success with acrylics on denim jackets and pants, as well as cotton t-shirts, but have never had the occasion to try it on these. I've learned over the years to start light, start slow, don't add too much paint at once and allow the layers to dry thoroughly before adding another. And once finished, a quick 15 minute run through a HOT dryer helps to set the color. Then again, I've also had color wash right out of the same kinds of fabrics. Hence the suggestion of a test towel. Also, do some research on how to ensure color-fastness so you're able to wash them. NO sense in having your hard work do down the drain.

Answer:	I have not noticed any shrinkage. These are wonderful towels, make sure you don't use dryer softener on them or they become useless
