Answer:	Hi Joseph - the lid sits on top. I've had mine now for a number of years and am very happy with it. It's a good quality product and I certainly recommend it. Always best to store foodstuff in glass rather than plastic. :)
Question:	Does this hold the shorter, thicker sticks of butter as opposed to just the regular longer sticks
Answer:	It easily holds two regular long sticks side by side. I use Kerrygold butter, which comes in 8oz slabs. They're like two regular sticks, side by side. They fit great. There's even extra length left in the dish which allows me to put a new slab in when there's still a quarter of the old slab left. I just push the old one to the end to make room for the new one. Salted butter can be at room temperature for up to 30 days so doing that is easy because my old butter is soft. We use a slab every couple of days, so I love always having soft, spreadable butter always available. These dishes are great and are large enough to hold any stick shapes you may have. You can even squeeze an entire pound in, but you'd have to mash it a bit because of height. For 2 regular 4oz quarters or the Kerrygold slabs which are 8oz, they fit very easily with room to spare.
Question:	Kerrygold unsalted butter? I just measured a stick and it's 4 3/4 inch long by 3 inches wide. Will this dish hold one stick
Answer:	The flat interior of the lid (with cow design) measures 5 inches and the flat interior of the deep dish measures 4-1/2 inches. Both measure 2-3/8 inch wide. These measurements are for the flat surface before each starts a very gradual slope towards the outside edge. I think your butter will fit, with going up the sides a little bit; of course, your decision.

Answer:	This butter dish is very cool and is best suited for a typical 1 stick of butter - 1/4lb. The kind that typically comes in a one pound package with 4 1/4 sticks. My guess is you would have to cut the Kerrygold in half and toss the remaining back in the fridge. ;-)

Answer:	No - only 2 sticks. Not high enough for a pound. Also, comes with no knob on lid - husband had to screw on a tiny wood block as knob otherwise it is hard to lift the cover off.
