Question:	My butter is 2.5" x 2.5" x 4.75". Will it fit in the dish without touching the sides of the lid
Answer:	If you position is precisely, it won't touch the sides of the lid, but it will probably touch (or almost touch) the inside top of the lid. For me, this turned out to not be a problem. When a little butter sticks to the lid, I retrieve it with a knife and spread it on the next slice of toast. So far, the lid has always been able to cover the butter stick and sit on the dish.

The first dish arrived broken. Amazon was wonderful with the return. Sent me a label for free return. Replacement arrived shortly thereafter. I love this dish and even if it was made in China, it is worth the money. I love that it has a handle and the dish is long and wide enough for any quarter butter portion. The dish also has ridges to prevent "melting or soft butter" escaping.

(Of course, if the range is still warm/hot near the dish it will melt quicker). Once we put a stick on the dish, it seldom if ever goes back in the fridge. There are two of us and we use it but not like a family of 3 or greater might. So, direct to your question, we have no problem with it at all. Also keeps bugs out of the butter!
