Answer: I'm not sure what the rating is, but they are steel. I don't think there is a bookshelf speaker heavy enough to overload these stands. In fact, you could probably put a block of granite the size of a bookshelf speaker and would probably still be fine. I have B&W 685s on my stands and the stands could take way more weight.

Answer: They said from Taiwan, I think more like from China with lousy quality control , I had to return them with missing thread holes and wrong size bored.
