Answer:	It has a tapered back--If I were you I would buy a different fire place grate--They do not last as long as they should--I bought one about 3 years ago and it only lasted about 8 months--the bottom broke out, gave it another chance and bought one again--It only lasted about a year-I don't burn a fire every night, so it should have lasted longer--So if I were you, look for a different one-It might cost a little more , but I bet it will be worth it.David Ross

Answer:	Depends on length of the wood. At the circle's bottom, measuring inside tubular frame -- circle to circle -- is a distance of 11 inches. Measuring outside frame to outside frame, it's 12 1/2 inches. Simply make sure wood is cut to 14 inches length. Failing that, if it's shorter, it's not hard to cut a 1"x6" plank into sections to lay perpendicular to the frame, allowing the wood to lay on top the planks. If you wanted to secure the planks, I'd drill holes in the planks on either side of the tubes below and use zip ties from Lowe's or Home Depot to secure the planks to the frame. No muss, and no real fuss to do.
