In 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids' (1989), Szalinski's latest project is his attempt to develop a machine that will shrink things, but so far it only explodes things. When his kids knock a baseball through his laboratory window, the ball activates the machine, so that when they go to retrieve the ball they are shrunk to a quarter of an inch high. Wayne sees the mess but not his kids, and he inadvertently sweeps them into the dustbin... In 'Honey, I Blew Up the Kid' (1992), Szalinski has invented and built a machine that will enlarge objects rather than shrink objects (or children). While in the process of demonstrating his invention, his two-year-old son gets in the way and is accidentally enlarged. He continues to grow until he is over 100 foot high. A comic tale of what happens when the tables are turned and people and buildings become playthings for a giant toddler. In 'Honey We Shrunk Ourselves' (1996), Szalinski succeeds in shrinking himself, his brother and their wives when yet another experiment goes wrong.
