I presume that since you said that your old grab bar rusted that you already have appropriate holes. Just make sure that the stainless screws are appropriate in diameter and length.You did not specify what your shower walls are made of. If tile and you need new holes, you will have to find a stud and appropriate tools including stainless mounting screws (to avoid rusting, check your local hardware store) and something to drill holes through the tile, which can be tricky if not done correctly and with the proper drill bits. If a fiberglass shower, then this is less of a problem except that you will still need to use a stud finder to locate an appropriate stud.An alternative is to caulk the existing holes and use a vacuum mounted grab bar instead. If tile, do not place the vacuum cups over a grout line. Be sure to test the security of the vacuum unit by tugging on it each and every time you enter the shower. Detach and reattach if necessary to ensure a firm grip. This takes but just a few seconds to do. Just do not put any weight on the grip before testing it for firmness of hold. I have these grips in a shower stall (fiberglass) and I find that they hold well except in the cooler months, when I remove them from the stall (hang them on a stall rack) and reinstall and test before each use.Check Amazon for Safe-er- Grip Bath & shower Handle, 17-Inches, 2 Count, which are ready to use out of the box.
