We take pride in being able to call our horns "ethically sourced." We are just as concerned with animal cruelty as you are, so we've made sure our horns come from a farm that raises the oxen for their meat, and not for their horns or other parts. All of our horns are from a family farm that also specialized in horncrafting.

How to care for your horn

We encourage you to drink anything from your tankard or Viking horn that's room temp or colder, even if it's acidic. For hot beverages, we recommend using our new coffee horn, which was made specifically to handle heat. For normal horns, heat isn't recommended as it can cause horn to warp or crack. Because all horns have their limits in terms of heat, we recommend hand washing only.

After careful consideration, we selected resin bases for our horns. The reason for this is that resin will not warp, expand or contract with pressure or temperature changes like wood sometimes does. After extensive testing of all available base material, we've selected the base that we feel provides the best protection from leakage. However, if you do end up receiving a horn that doesn't meet your standards, or if your horn develops a leak down the line, reach out and we'll replace it right away, no questions asked. Sometimes horns spring leaks in transit due to their sensitive organic nature, but we back our products and want you to love your horn.

Question:	Can you use this for coffee? Can a hot beverage go in
Answer:	Not recommended, Because it's a natural product it will contrast and expand with extreme temperatures. That will make it leak and possibly crack.

Answer:	Bought a couple, I wouldn't say they have a really bad smell. It is made of horn so there will be a slight odor after the first couple of washes, but honestly you'll get that no matter what horn cup you get. These however have the added bonus of the carvings
Question:	Why does it smell so bad and looks nothing like the picture
Answer:	Mine had an unpleasant smell when I first got it. I suspect its from the food grade lacquer coating the inside of the mug, as the outside didn't smell at all. Either it absorbed odor from the burlap as it cured, or it carries its own odor. In any event, it was temporary. An initial washout with dish soap diminished it quite a bit. Letting it air out did even more. By the end of one day at the Renaissance Festival, the unpleasant smell is completely gone, only the faintest smell of ale remains. Its possible that the lacquer needs some time to vent before it stops smelling. Think of a new car smell. If the mug was allowed to sit in open air before shipping then the mug would come out of the box odor free. If, on the other hand, the mug was packaged up and shipped as soon as the lacquer was dry because of a surge in orders then the mug might come out of the box with a temporary odor.Don't worry, if its there, it seems to be temporary.

Answer:	Yes, of course. No animal is harmed for their horns, these are simply byproducts of the large water buffalo livestock trade in India. Cows are sacred in the Hindu religion, so they are not farmed in India like they are here in the US. Instead, they use water buffalo for their livestock and the horns are a natural by product of that. Over 4.4 million tons of water buffalo are farmed in India annually. Normally, the horns are ground up and used in livestock feed or fertilizer, we just happen to get a few and make cool crafts from them. Sorry for the long answer, but we get that question a lot, so hope it helps.

Answer:	I have hand washed it, with regular dish soap. It cleans up nicely, and doesn't seem to take on any of the soap.

Answer:	Mine did not smell though it could be from the buffing compound they used to make it shine. Your mug will differ than the pic because each horn they make it from is colored different. I love mine. I may never drink from them, they were purchased more so for the look than the use.

Answer:	I had no odor in mine, but its often due to it being part of an animal & then when they hollow it out with a drill, the smell of horn can linger. Follow the instructions on how to get the smell out. Baking soda & vinegar often work. And then so does coating it inside with wax if you choose.
