They are heated at a very high heat so they will withstand the microwave heat very well and dishwasher if they don't have a type of decoration that would not be recommended for the microwave/dishwasher. But my entry-level chemistry knowledge has me abundantly satisfied that lead in glass is so bonded I expect if any at all were to leach out, it would not be nearly as much as, for example, got into the soil of the entire U. S. back in the days of leaded gasoline, and you breathe anytime there is any dust in the air. On the other hand, I would not think it would be smart to grind down one of these plates to a very fine powder and eat it..

Question:	Hi......for those who have had this set for awhile can you please let me know how it has held up with time in the dishwasher? any fading or cracking
Answer:	I bought these dishes last year and they are my "every day" dishes so I always put them in the dishwasher for cleaning. No fading or cracking on them has occurred for me. I also place cooked food into the bowls and plates of this set and then put them into my convection oven to keep those foods warm while I finish cooking other foods so that all the food is hot when served. I frequently put the salad/sandwich plates in my microwave oven to cook or heat up food/liquids. I've had no problems with this set of dishes.

Answer:	Yes. In comparison to my cheap Target dishes (only 1 of which has chipped after 8 years) 3 mugs have lost their handles and 1 bowl has been chipped from our Gibson Elite dishes (after 3 years). They do chip relatively easily.
Question:	What is reactive glaze
Answer:	A reactive glaze is frequently used in ceramics, stoneware and pottery. These kinds of glazes are also known as variegated or mottled. They take on a "special effect" of color and are not solid or flat looking. On these dishes, the reactive glaze gives some of them a slight blue tint around the edge and gives the center sections a cream and light brown swirl. No two dishes are alike but they are not so unlike each other as to be obvious to the observer. It's only if you pick them up and examine them against each other that you will see they are different in shading. Reactive glaze is very popular and you've probably seen it before without knowing what it is called. I like this set very much and have gotten compliments on it from guests. I hope this helps.
