A Centuries Old Tradition
Family owned for seven generations, WÜSTHOF was founded in Solingen, Germany over 200 years ago. Located near the banks of the Wupper River, Solingen has been home to master blacksmiths for over 2,000 years, with the river's many creeks and spillways perfectly suited to provide power for the forging of blades through the 18th and 19th centuries. It was then, in 1814, that the WÜSTHOF tradition began. To this day, every WÜSTHOF knife is expertly crafted in the legendary 'City of Blades'.

User questions & answers
Question: | How do you sharpen this knife |
Answer: | Winsteele, I have sharpened this Wüsthof Vegetable knife, as well my other knives. My sharpener is a simple, hand held one that I bought from a local "big box" store, in the sporting goods department. It does a good job, but I'm certain that a professional sharpener would provide a more excellent edge. |
Question: | Would this work well for cutting sushi rolls |
Answer: | The blade is made of Stainless Steel. The exact chemical composition (if that's what you're asking?)--I have no idea |
Question: | Although a vegetable knife what about cutting other things |
Answer: | Maybe the garlic I use is extremely sticky (it's organic grown in the USA), but it sticks to the blade of this knife, especially when I use it to mince. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this fit wusthof knife block 9-slot acacia |
Answer: | I don’t know what a 9- slot Acadia is. I keep my knobes on the magnet for my knives. If it’s width you need it’s 1 1/2 in wide |
Question: | Why in the picture it doesnt look like it has a full bolster but a band is it not a classic all other pictures a full bolster is present |
Answer: | Mine came as pictured and it is the Classic. The classic comes in both full and Demi bolster. I believe all of the Asian style knives are Demi bolster to allow for full use of the blade and better sharpening. |
Question: | How do I know that this item is a legit Wusthof? It is half the price here than at other kitchen stores |
Answer: | Obviously , I don’t know for sure, but I was pricing these at Christmas and there were a couple of other retailers that had them for $59.95 - including Williams Sonoma. I went with Amazon because they had it available and Williams Sonoma had them back ordered. Plus, I have prime and got free shipping and WS had no free shipping codes at the time. |
Question: | Is this single bevel |
Answer: | I believe the single edge knife is called a Usuba. The double edge is a Nakiri. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How would this do on a rutabaga? Would it cut through easily |
Answer: | No differently than any other knife. |
Question: | What's the legende series |
Answer: | Yes, these knives are amazing and sharp, the special design of this knife helps things like sushi or vegetables release from the knife so they aren’t stuck to the side. Not sure if that makes sense. |
Question: | does this knife come in/with a protective sleeve |
Answer: | This has become our 'go to' knife for most slicing/chopping. But it is a chef's knife, not a thin butcher knife or a paring knife, so it isn't best for fine meat slicing, but if you are chopping up a chicken breast for butter chicken - no problem; cutting up meat for a stew or something requiring chunks - no problem. It is as sharp as our somewhat longer traditional Wusthof chef's knife and really amazing when it comes to working with potatoes or similar vegetables. |
Question: | What is the legende series ? different from the classic wustof santoku |
Answer: | Don’t know wat the CA Prop 65 Warning is? |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it dishwasher safe |
Answer: | No it does not come with sharpening stone - just the knife. |
Question: | What is the weight of the knife |
Answer: | the santoku has thinner blade design and is lighter, cooks knife are more of rocking style cutting, the santoku is made for chopping style where the knife comes off the cutting board, it's real up to the person what they like buy them both LOL.. from me... LOL |
Question: | what is width |
Answer: | The Wusthof representative said that 4188 is the GOURMET 7" Santoku which is a stamped knife and 4183 is the CLASSIC 7" Santoku which is a forged knife. Both are made with the same steel, however the blade does not go all the way through the handle on a stamped knife. A forged knife goes through a longer forging process when it is made and therefore has a better balance and little more weight than a stamped knife. |
