8 best gourmet knives
Gourmet knives, often associated with high-quality cutlery, are essential tools for both professional chefs and home cooks who prioritize precision and craftsmanship in the kitchen. Here's what you should know about gourmet knives:
Santoku Knives: Santoku knives are a type of gourmet knife that originates from Japan. They are known for their versatility and are often used for slicing, dicing, and chopping. Santoku knives typically have a shorter, wider blade than Western chef's knives and feature a flat cutting edge.
High-Quality Materials: Gourmet knives are crafted from premium materials, such as high-carbon stainless steel or Damascus steel. These materials are chosen for their durability, corrosion resistance, and ability to maintain a sharp edge.
Sharpness: One of the key attributes of gourmet knives is their exceptional sharpness. These knives are expertly sharpened to razor-like edges, which allows for precise and effortless cutting.
Ergonomic Handles: To ensure comfort during prolonged use, gourmet knives often feature ergonomic handles made from materials like wood, resin, or synthetic materials. These handles are designed to provide a secure grip and reduce hand fatigue.
Balance: Gourmet knives are carefully balanced, with the weight evenly distributed between the blade and the handle. This balance enhances control and stability during cutting tasks.
Specialized Uses: Gourmet knives come in various styles, each designed for specific tasks. In addition to Santoku knives, there are also other specialized knives like chef's knives, paring knives, boning knives, and bread knives. Each serves a unique purpose in the kitchen.
Maintenance: Proper maintenance is essential to preserve the sharpness and longevity of gourmet knives. They should be regularly honed using a honing rod and, when necessary, professionally sharpened. Additionally, knives should be hand-washed and dried immediately to prevent corrosion.
Knife Accessories: Gourmet knives are often accompanied by accessories like knife blocks, magnetic strips, blade guards, and knife sharpeners. These accessories help store and maintain the knives effectively.
Collectible and Decorative: Some gourmet knives are not only functional but also crafted as collectible or decorative pieces. These knives may feature ornate handles or unique blade patterns.
Price Range: Gourmet knives vary in price, with high-end brands and custom knife makers offering premium options that can be quite expensive. However, there are also more affordable gourmet knives available for those on a budget.
Gourmet knives are prized for their craftsmanship, precision, and durability. When choosing a gourmet knife, it's essential to consider your specific cooking needs and preferences to find the knife that best suits your culinary style.Proper care and maintenance will ensure that your gourmet knives remain valuable tools in your kitchen for years to come.

Product description
The Gourmet 3inch parer is a used for many peeling and slicing tasks of fruits and vegitable. This is one of those knives that is used all the time and has more flexiblity than forged knives this size. Typical stamped knives are punched out like a cookie cutter. Wusthof Gourmet knives are Laser Cut. This intricate manufacturing process is superior to other "cookie cutter" methods as it is more precise and leaves the knives with less distortion. The Gourmet knives use the same steel that is used in our other more expensive knives. Wusthof uses a special blend of German steel through out the whole length of the knife. The ingredients of this steel are proudly etched on each blade. Wusthof not only uses the best materials to make a fine knife, but it is also crucial that each blade is precisely tempered. This tempering allows the knife to hold its edge for an extremely long time, yet can be maintained in your home kitchen with out the need to be sent away for maintenance. Located in "The Cutlery Capital of the World", Solingen Germany, the Wusthof factory history goes back as far as 1814 when the company was listed with the Duchy of Berg. To this day, the company remains family owned. Each step is performed to exacting standards by skilled German workers aided by the most modern, computer guided equipment. It is this balance of German technology and old world hand craftsmanship that is the secret of how each WÜSTHOF knife is created. Known the world-over for it’s unique and uncompromising quality, Our unique compound angle is not seen in many knives. This angle tapers from the spine of the knife to the edge to allow for a sturdy, yet extremely sharp edge while it also tapers from the bolster to the tip to give the knife strength as well as flexibility.

Wusthof Gourmet 5" Serrated Utility Knife
Slice even the juiciest of tomatoes as thin as you like for sandwiches or make quick work of cutting up small pieces for salads. This knife from Wüsthof's premier line, Grand Prix, was specially made to handle the tricky tomato, and with two handy prongs on the end of the blade, it's a snap to pick up slices and place them neatly on a plate.

User questions & answers
Question: | We bought this set and was delivered with a missing knife |
Answer: | 5 1/2 wide 12 1/2 long |
Question: | Where are these knives made...China/Germany |
Answer: | Apparently, all knives should be hand washed and left to dry beforehand. But I've been putting them in the dishwasher and made sure they are dried and inserted into the block. I haven't seen any rust stains so far. But I'm sure eventually it may happen cause knives have an intension to rust if not hand washed. But it's not something you can't fix by just scrubbing the knives with a brillo pad again. |
Question: | Are they all same size. Hope not. Are they steak knives? Thet were not presented as such |
Answer: | No. The steak knives are serrated so no self sharpening slot to them. Only 4 slots are self sharpening as all others are serrated. |
Question: | Do people typically remove the little red Wusthof sticker logos on the knife handles, or keep them on? Will they eventually wear off, anyhow |
Answer: | It says yes but recommend hand Washing serrated steak knives. No they are heavy duty |
