"Cocotte" in French means "casserole," but there are a multitude of dishes that emerge delectably from Staub's signature French oven. This attractive 4-quart cocotte, available in an array of rich colors, is an ideal choice for slow-cooked stews and soups, casseroles, and roasted meats, as well as many other one-pot meals. Measuring 9-3/8 inches in diameter, the cocotte is constructed of durable cast iron with a black matte enameled interior and an enameled ceramic finish that extends to the pot and lid edges to prevent chipping and rusting. And with its decorative design, it serves as beautifully as it cooks.

Designed for oven or stovetop use, the cocotte features a smooth, heavy earthenware base that will never warp and can handle any cooking surface, including glass, induction, and convection. Like the pot itself, the handles and lid are cast iron for durability and even heat distribution and retention (handles and brass or stainless steel lid knobs do get hot, so use caution). The lid features innovative self-basting spikes to continually redistribute juices back to the ingredients as they cook. The black-matte enameled interior doesn't need seasoning and, as cooking oils seep into the pores over time, will become a self-seasoned, non-stick surface. Oven-safe to 500 degrees F, Staub's French oven doesn't need high heat and so should be used on low to medium settings. For best care, use with silicone or wooden utensils and wash by hand with non-abrasive cleaners. The cocotte comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Made in France.

User questions & answers

Question: How is this different from a Glass casserole
Answer: Don't know what 18/10 is but yes the pan is "heavy weight" it doesn't distort when cooking and cleans up very nicely, only thing is the welds on the rack are not finished which causes an issue while cleaning. (I just popped the rack only in the dishwasher).
Question: Is it non-stick
Answer: Yes
Question: Can you cut with a knife and use metal utensils without scratching
Answer: About 3 1/2 inches. I baked a 27 lb turkey in it and it was plenty big enough.
Question: What's the length at the widest part including the handles
Answer: I am sorry but we did not purchase mugs. I think you could go online to a Lenox site and the site might be able to give you an accurate assessment. My guess would be 6-8 ounces; mist probably 8 ounces. Good luck!

User questions & answers

Question: Does this require any seasoning? Any tips for a first time cast iron grill pan user
Answer: "natural non stick" The gloss glaze used in production is silica which is a natural compound and is safe for cooking. When cooked correctly enameled cast iron can be non stick or less sticky as traditional cast iron. Our "natural non stick" is a direct alternative to Teflon and other "non stick" surfaces that can be toxic when damaged and overcooked.
Question: Could I confirm that the interior is also enamelled? Bought a Lodge and it’s rusting like crazy
Answer: The "inner edge" is not coated, if it were coated it would crack due to the pressure from lid being taken on and off of it. If the "inner edge" does rust you should do the following: use a dish towel and scrub with soap and water, rub dry and put cooking oil on the exposed metal. If rust persists rub affected areas with steel wool and repeat prior mentioned method. Hope this helps!
Question: How do you clean the burnt marks off
Answer: Designed in Chicago, IL and made in China
Question: What is the diameter of the cooking surface
Answer: It is stainless steel so it is not non stick. Yet, because it is heavy stainless steel it doesn’t collect build up and burn. I recommend this pan. Non stick pans produce unhealthy chemicals into the food. Look it up

User questions & answers

Question: What is the difference between white truffle and white color and could someone describe the white truffle color
Answer: As Leaser states below, it depends on the quality of water you start with. I use mine at work, so I only run about a gallon a day through it, five days a week. The tap water measures about 180-200 ppm on the meter, and it lasts me about 2 months per filter, around 40-50 gallons, I would estimate.
Question: Does anyone have the product dimensions?! Curious about diameter and such
Answer: Another reason to love this brand: according to the directions the filters will last six months!
Question: What is the difference between the Round Cocotte and the Dutch Oven? Anybody know
Answer: Yes, it can filter out impurities in the water, make the water clearer, soften the hard water, and make the water taste better.
Question: Is the enamel used in this item lead-free and non-toxic? Is this stated somewhere in writing
Answer: It is recommended to change the filter once every 6 months, depending on the amount of water.

User questions & answers

Question: what is the diameter of the top of the 3.75 qt one
Answer: It depends on how much water you drink. The water will start tasting different when it's time tu of change. I have to replace it about every three months.
Question: How much does the 6 qt. Dutch oven weigh
Answer: I'm not sure about the shelf life. Never thought about it and you bring up a good point. I usually buy the 8 or 12 pack because we need to change out the filters every three weeks. I actually have two large, 23 cup dispensers. One is in the refrigerator, and other is left out for cooking, so we go through them quickly. One thing about the one not in the refrigerator - it does start to develop a moldy smell, I suppose from the moist condition of the filter and room temperature combined. I wash it out regularly as a result. I read other reviews stating the same problem with the larger dispensers that are left out of the refrigerator, so I suspect the problem is universal and not specific to this product. Customer service is excellent, so if you would like to call them and ask, I'm sure they would be more than happy to answer. (800).503.2939.
Question: Why did you choose this over the lodge brand
Answer: i ordered a 4 pack of filters. When I opened the sealed white plastic wrap, and opened the top, the filter was WET...I decided to put it on my unit and use it anyway, but tested it before consumed..the reading was "69"...I am returning the entire 4 filters and will deal only with zero water company directly.
Question: What color is the nob
Answer: Does this filter fit the ZJ-003-IS water cooler kit?

User questions & answers

Question: Is it okay to cook shabu shabu with this pan
Answer: Just go on YouTube. Start with the type of food you like and add (cast iron) to the beginning or end. Plus you'll actually get to see the food being prepared and cooked. Visual references can be very helpful for many different things including cooking. Simple example would be a roux there are generally 3 types, and a visual reference is helpful if you've never made all 3. Plus cast iron is what you want when it comes to a roux. But that's one example out of many. Im from Louisiana, so that's just what popped in my head first. With winter here it's a good time for soup, stew, chili, gumbo, chicken and dumplings, and so on. With an enamel cast iron pot you can cook anything you want to. With a regular non-enamel you can't. Generally you want to stay away from acidic foods without having the enamel coating, for example, red sauce spaghetti. With the enamel coating you can make whatever you want.
Question: It the top oven safe
Answer: It filters as you drink. It probably filters some while it stands there, but mainly it filters as you drink.
Question: I'm seeing varying answers for the bottom of this pan. Some say 6" and another says 9". Would have been great Staub provided these dimensions
Answer: We do not recommend freezing bobble or its carbon filter. you can, however, put bobble in the refrigerator.
Question: is this teflon coated
Answer: Yes. It's not overly soft, but it's pliable enough for that.
