User questions & answers
Question: | Are the handles solid stainless steel or hollow |
Answer: | Referring to "Tramontina 80116/024DS Gourmet Stainless Steel Induction-Ready Tri-Ply Clad Covered Sauce Pan, 4-Quart, NSF-Certified, Made in Brazil": If the first two digits of the second set of numbers of the model number is "02" (i.e., "02" in 80116/024DS), then it is made in Brazil. If the first two digits of the second set of numbers of the model number is "55" (i.e., "55" in 80116/554DS), then it is made in China. This information is from the Tramontina customer service department (I had the same question and wrote to them). I just received the 2-quart version from Walmart with the model number 80116/562DS; the box and pan both say this item was also made in China, but I don't yet know what the distinction is between the "55" (made in China) and the "56" (also made in China)... I again wrote to customer service but haven't heard back yet. Incidentally, the third digit of the second set of numbers in the model number (i.e., "4" in 80116/024DS) appears to refer to the size of the pan: 1 = 1.5-quart, 2 = 2-quart, 3 = 3-quart, and 4 = 4-quart. Hope this helps. |
Question: | What is the actual size of Tramontina Tri-Ply Clad 5 Qt Dutch Oven |
Answer: | Although stainless steel cookware is not "nonstick", there are some things that may help lessen the "sticking" of your food to your pans when cooking. 1. Take your food out of the refrigerator and allow it to thaw before cooking.(Cold food has a tendency to stick more than food at room temperature.) 2. Always preheat your pan on low to medium for about 2 minutes before you start to cook. 3. Add oil or butter to the cookware and allow it to heat up. 4. Place your food in the pan and let it cook all the way on one side before you turn it. If you try to turn it too soon it will almost always stick. 5. Never put your pan on high or med high unless you have a pan full of cold liquid. The cool liquid will pull the heat from the pan and keep the metal in the pan cooler. 6. Turn the heat down to med low or low once you add your food to the pan. Your pan has an aluminum core that will retain the heat, so if you keep it too high your food may burn or stick. CLEANING: For hard-to-clean, stuck-on foods, soak cookware in hot, soapy water prior to washing. Hopefully, these tips will help you, when cooking with stainless steel. |
Question: | Is this pan indeed made in Brazil? I see many pans like this made in China |
Answer: | The grill side is charcoal only. The griddle side is 12,000 BTUs. You can use a small green propane tank or the unit comes with a bulk tank adapter hose that you can use with a full size standard tank. |
Question: | Does anyone have information regarding "how to cure" this pan to avoid food sticking |
Answer: | I got the 36 inch cover and it fits well |

User questions & answers
Question: | where are these made |
Answer: | The small sauce pan is 3 1/2 in. deep. 5 in diameter on bottom & 6 3/4 in diameter on top. Holds 1 1/2 quarts. I am happy with my set. |
Question: | Will lids fit pans |
Answer: | I don't have this set but I doubt the bottom is 18/10. 18/10 is not magnetic, so if it was on the bottom it wouldn't work with induction. The bottom must be a more magnetic grade of SS such as 430. |
Question: | Why aren't the sizes listed prominently? i still don't know what size the small saucepan is |
Answer: | Yes,or I certainly consider them scratch resistant. I would not try to clean them with steel wool. Very nice pans. |
Question: | This says 18/10 stainless steel “construction”... I am specifically looking for cookware that has 18/10 bottom. I’m confused with the wording here |
Answer: | Pans are dishwasher-safe. However, natural aluminum will discolor when placed in a dishwasher. We recommended hand-washing and drying to optimized the life, performance, and beauty of the interior and exterior finishes. Exterior discoloration does not effect the performance of the pans. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the interior diameters? Is dishwasher safe |
Answer: | Yes. This cooks nearly everything faster than even in the microwave. I say "nearly everything" only because I haven't tried cooking EVERYTHING on it - but it sure heats everything I've cooked on it so far way faster than either my hottest gas burner or the microwave. It is WAY faster than an electric cooktop because you don't have the latency period of an electric burner (that period of time when you have to wait for the burner to come up to temperature). |
Question: | What is the size of the steamer holes |
Answer: | the cord is short about 3-4 feet |
Question: | What is the width? 11" or |
Answer: | It's only a 1500 Watt cooktop so it could take quite a bit longer to get a pressure cooker up to 15 psi. When it is turned down the response is immediate. It doesn't have the thermal lag of electric burners. |
Question: | what size is the steamer/top section |
Answer: | There are TWO sets on this page, one is a 3 piece set (pan lid and single burner hob) and the other is the 8 piece set with the 2 burner hob. |

Question: | Can these be used on a gas range |
Answer: | The interior diameter of the Tramontina 80120/523DS Stainless Steel 5 Qt Steamer Set is 9.5 Inches. The set is dishwasher safe, however, we recommend hand-drying the cookware immediately after the rinse cycle or hand-washing and drying to preserve the original finish. Question: | Is this non stick |
Answer: | The steamer holes in the basket are ~5mm in diameter. |
Question: | Do the handles get very hot? Do I have to use towels around the handles to move the pot |
Answer: | 13 inches if including handles 10 inches diameter Wish I'd known this :( |
Question: | Are the pots oven safe to 500 and the glass tops safe to 350? Thanks in advance |
Answer: | The top steamer basket is 3 1/2 deep and 10” across. Love this so much we own two. You can put a extra large head of cauliflower (cut up) or two normal size broccoli heads in one. We use ours 2-3 times a week. Corn on the cob, fresh green beans. The list is endless. We used to microwave vegetables. Yup. Lazy. Now I would not cook vegetables any other way except steamed. |

Question: | Is the lid glass or metal? The description says metal, but one of the question/answer people said glass. Can anyone illuminate me? Thanks |
Answer: | The 80141/008DS Gourmet Cold Forged, Induction-Ready Aluminum Nonstick, Metallic Black 8-inch Fry Pan, is Made in China. Please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected] for further assistance. |
Question: | Is the base 12 inches or the lip |
Answer: | No. I have an electric stove and have no problem. Recently, I brought food in it to a friend in the pan. It was reheated on a gas stove. The pan has “gasoline/ rainbow” streaking throughout the base and sides. I suspect the gas was the culprit , as my other pans don’t have this. |
Question: | is this the pan that America's test kitchen reviewed |
Answer: | No |
Question: | what is the difference between the 12 inch tri-ply Prima pan and the Domas pan |
Answer: | The handles do not get very hot on the pan but they do on the lid. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these have copper bottoms |
Answer: | My pans and pots do not have copper bottoms. |
Question: | can i use metal utensils with the product |
Answer: | Metal utensils can be used on stainless steel cookware, but it's always best to use silicone, wood, or plastic utensils on nonstick stainless steel cookware. While non-stick coating is extremely durable, sharp utensils may damage the interior of the cookware over time. Be sure to coat your SS pots and pans with a light coat of oil ever 2 to 3 times of use. |
Question: | Do these come with stainless steel lids |
Answer: | Yes Glass and stainless lids |
Question: | How do I know if I’m getting stainless steel lids or glass lids |
Answer: | You are probably getting glass lids. I did and have reported the incorrect product information. This was three weeks ago and I see the stainless lids are still pictured. Also the stockpot in the glass lid set is 8 quarts, not 12, and the set I received was made in Brazil, not China. The whole listing is misleading. Still, I think this is a great set for the price and kept mine. |

Question: | Are the handles plastic or metal |
Answer: | It might have been at one point, but the model shown here now (Oct '14) is probably not the same one tested by ATK simply because the one tested has the wide base, according to the test article in the magazine, that one has large base (around 10") and short sides. This one, according to the answers provided to the question, "What is the diameter of the base of the 12" pan?" from 2013, are around 8"-ish. This one also has sides that are too high. I have the article and the one shown here looks totally different, if you look at the sides and the area of the base. I didn't buy the one listed here but like others, I want to buy the one tested by ATK, but after thorough searching I haven't been able to find it. At one point Walmart carried the exact model but no more. That's probably the case at Amazon. I just want to clarify this so people don't get a pan with a small base and be disappointed. Now, I know the other buyers might really like this pan and don't care about the size of the cooking area but I know I need a pan with the large enough base to accommodate the amount of food specified in a recipe (and besides 8" or 8.5" is too small for a 12" pan) and if I get this because of the wrong info given out, I would be really angry and don't forget the hassle of shipping it back or keeping it and hating it. |
Question: | Does anybody know how many layers of enamel these have |
Answer: | Linda, the constrution of the pans is identical, and food will cook the same in them. On the Prima pan, however, which is the one I purchased, there is an edge around the pan's edge intended to make it easier to pour liquids from the pan. It works okay, and since the prices are similar I'd go for it. By the way, as for the pan itself, this skillet has literally changed the way I cook. Its heat-retaining core is efficient and heats and cooks evenly. The size of the 12" skillet will allow you to add a full pound of pasta to your sauteed ingredients with pasta water to finish your dish. It browns food better than any pan I've ever had, and I find myself looking for excuses to use it instead of my very expensive (and nice, but just not the same) saute pan. If you're a serious cook, you need this, and there's no reason to spend more for All-Clad or any other pricey brand. Finally, this pan is beautiful, and cleans up easily with a squirt of liquid Barkeeper's Friend Liquid Cleaner along with your dishwashing foam or liquid after a short soak. |
