12 best cast iron skillet with lids
A cast iron skillet with a lid is a versatile piece of cookware used in kitchens for various cooking tasks. Here are some key points about cast iron skillets with lids:
Material: Cast iron skillets are typically made from a single piece of cast iron, making them incredibly durable and able to withstand high cooking temperatures. The lids for these skillets are usually made of the same cast iron material.
Heat Retention: Cast iron has excellent heat retention properties, which means it can maintain a consistent temperature over a long period. This makes it ideal for slow cooking, frying, and baking.
Versatility: Cast iron skillets with lids are versatile and can be used on various heat sources, including stovetops, ovens, grills, and even open flames. They are suitable for searing, frying, baking, roasting, and simmering.
Even Heating: Cast iron skillets distribute heat evenly across their surface, ensuring that food cooks uniformly. This helps prevent hot spots and allows for precise cooking control.
Non-Stick Surface: With proper seasoning and care, cast iron skillets can develop a natural non-stick surface over time, making them great for cooking foods like eggs and pancakes without sticking.
Lid Benefits: The lid that comes with these skillets serves several purposes. It can help trap heat and moisture, which is particularly useful for slow-cooking dishes like stews and braises. It can also be used to cover the skillet when baking or frying to prevent splatters.
Flavor Enhancement: Cast iron skillets can enhance the flavor of your food. Over time, they accumulate seasoning, a layer of polymerized oil that adds depth and richness to dishes.
Maintenance: To maintain the seasoning and prevent rust, cast iron skillets require some care. This includes regular seasoning (coating with a thin layer of oil and heating), cleaning with minimal soap, and thorough drying after use.
Size Options: Cast iron skillets with lids come in various sizes, ranging from small 8-inch models to large 15-inch ones, catering to different cooking needs.
Longevity: With proper care, cast iron skillets with lids can last for generations, making them an excellent investment for your kitchen.
In summary, a cast iron skillet with a lid is a durable, versatile, and long-lasting piece of cookware known for its even heating and heat retention properties. It's suitable for a wide range of cooking methods and can help enhance the flavor of your dishes while requiring proper care to maintain its seasoning and prevent rust.

User questions & answers
Question: | i have a lodge cast iron pan it says 10 in on bottom but messgers 12 on top what size lid do i need |
Answer: | You need a 12" lid. With the advent of wood-burning stoves, pans were produced to conform to the sizes of the openings in their tops known as "stove eyes." The 10 is the stove eye not diameter of the pan top. |
Question: | What's the difference betwen this lodge 12" lid (gl12) and the other lodge 12" (gc12)? will both fit the same 12" skillets? same heat resistance |
Answer: | I got an official answer from Lodge The GL is the newer version. The only difference in the GL12 and GC12 tempered glass lids is the knob on the top. The updated GL12 has a silicone knob that is oven safe to 400 degrees F. The older version (GC12) has a plastic knob, but it is still safe to up to 400 degrees F. |
Question: | In which country are these tempered glass lids manufactured |
Answer: | My order arrived just today. According to the retail box: 10¼" skillet is made in USA. The matching glass lid is made in China. |
Question: | Attn amazon! every lid i look at is missing one thing, the specs! thats all we need to know what to buy. what is the inset and overall dimension |
Answer: | This looks like a great lid. Every review I read fails to mention the tapered lip. It skus the measurements. The edge is at 9 9/16 but flat of the lip starts at 9 7/8. Does not fit 10" Granitestone |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the skillet very sticky to cook? nothing like non-stick |
Answer: | Surprisingly, no. This skillet is not sticky to cook. Not even cheese really sticks like in some pans, and the skillet cleans easier than I expected. |
Question: | Is This Dishwasher Safe |
Answer: | Hand wash with water. Never submerge cast iron or use a dishwasher. |
Question: | where is this made |
Answer: | The cast iron skillets made in China that are made for use in the USA have to meet specific FDA regulations. So grab them up quickly as the current administration in Washington DC is getting rid of a LOT of regulations for clean air, clean water, specific regs for cooking utensils made elsewhere. Otherwise get Griswold, Wagner, or Lodge pans all made here in the USA. Or you can go to yard sales, farm sales etc and find one made 75 years ago. But come on! How many great chefs do we have here? As a doctor I love the people who get upset about cast iron pans, then drink sugar sodas (probably #1 for obesity and heart disease) and all processed foods. Folks who go for gluten-free when the only people who need it are those with celiac disease...and so on. These Chinese made pans are cheap---that’s why we buy so much stuff made in China. |
Question: | Does it protect against firearms |
Answer: | This is actually a complicated answer that depends primarily energy dissipation. Cast iron's higher carbon content translates to a very stiff molecular structure of iron, carbon, silica, and impurities; which is physically very hard and has more ceramic / brittle characteristics than ductile metals. Cast iron won't bend; structural failure is driven by unpredictable and catastrophic crack propagation. Cast iron will shatter like a clay pot in a direct strike, but has a very high surface hardness, resilient to compression and superior at deflecting less-hard materials. If you bought 20 or so skillets and embedded them in a matrix of rubber and kevlar at varying surface normal angles, it would protect against smaller firearms. Need thicker plate for bigger rounds. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Whith what OIL was it seasoned |
Answer: | Our cast iron had been seasoned with Kosher Certified Palm Olein for years. We changed the seasoning to organic Flaxseed oil on the second half of 2017, which has had better results in testing, and skillets with that seasoning started hitting store shelves in August 2017. So both oils are vegetable oils baked at super high temperatures, but we just changed from Certified Kosher Palm Olein to Flaxseed, which is not certified Kosher. If you buy one today from Amazon, it'll be a flaxseed oil pan. |
Question: | Where made country |
Answer: | Colombia |
Question: | Is this skillet dishwasher safe |
Answer: | No! Cast iron pan without porcelain enamel should never be placed in dishwasher. |
Question: | How deep is this skillet |
Answer: | Well it recites Shakespeare, so I say pretty deep. |
Question: | Can this 11 inch enameled cast iron skillet be used in the oven |
Answer: | Doubt it since it has a non-stick surface. Enamel is better, see Lodge's Dutch oven http://www.amazon.com/Lodge-EC6D43-Enameled-Island-6-Quart/dp/B000N501BK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1389456778&sr=8-3&keywords=lodge+cast+iron+dutch+oven |
Question: | Will it work on a glass topped electric stove |
Answer: | I have an induction stove with a glass top and it works fine. I bought it specifically for my glass top since a regular cast iron pan is a bit rough on the bottom this is smooth and will not scratch my stove top. However, it is heavy I always use care setting it down on the stove I think it is heavy enough that if dropped it has a possibility to break the glass. |
Question: | any one know of a cast iron or glass or even steel lid that fits on this skillet |
Answer: | I have the Lodge Dutch Oven and I use the lid from this which fits the skillet. I would assume that you might be able to pick up a lid from Bed, Bath and Beyond because they sell individual lids. |
Question: | What size dutch oven lid will fit the 11 inch cast iron enameled skillet and be safe to use |
Answer: | I have a 11" enameled skillet and the lid from my 6qt enameled Dutch Oven fits it nicely |

Our History
Victoria was founded in 1939. We are a three-generation family business located in Medellín, Colombia. The founder Raúl Mejía was 16 years old when he decided to start a small business in the foundry industry. He crafted his first products: metallic toy soldiers and decorative crosses. After perfecting the art of casting, Raúl’s passion for cooking and fresh foods lead him to create Victoria Cast Iron Cookware.
Look at Those Curves
Longer & curvy handles don't just translate to better maneuverability, but also to cooler handle temperatures on the stove (protective gear is still always recommended for iron products).
Harmonious Design
Our skillets and grills are part of one good-looking family, and they are all designed in harmony to look that way.
Keepin' it Natural
Victoria Cast Iron skillets have been praised by chefs and professional testers for their excellent pre-seasoning right out of the box! Extensive tips on maintaining and building seasoning are found on the packaging and on our website
Multi-Functional, Multi-Faceted
Bake in it, Fry in it, BBQ in it. The Victoria Skillet is suitable for cooking in: induction, ceramic, campfire, grill, oven, & more. And to top it off, our skillets are deeper and have a wider cooking surface, allowing you to sear, bake and fry better.

User questions & answers
Question: | I want a cast iron skillet manufactured in the U.S. What is the country of origin of Lodge brand skillets |
Answer: | Lodge pots and pans with model #'s stamped on the bottom containing the # 5 = 8 inches. Model #'s containing the # 6 = 9 inches. |
Question: | How do you know if an 8 or 9 inch top is correct size |
Answer: | The "ridge" that is on the bottom of the lid is from outside to outside 11 5/8 . The ridge is 1/8 in. The diam of the lid is 12 1/8. The "ridge' is approx. 3/16 in from the edge of the lid |
Question: | I dont have a lodge pan ..instead a vintage cast iron pan ... its stamped on the bottom #10 12 7/16 inches... what is the exact size of the lid |
Answer: | When warranted, I'm as critical of Amazon as the next gal, but I don't share the Amazon-enmity folks have posted in response to the original poster's criticism of the price of these lids compared to the Lodge skillets they cover.* || Why not? Because: (1) As of 1/3/20, Lodge -- the manufacturer -- is selling these lids on its own website for $31.99, and that's before taxes and shipping. The Amazon price is quite reasonable in comparison, especially for folks whose annual Amazon Prime membership has covered their shipping costs. (2) The Academy page to which some folks in this thread have linked does, indeed, offer these lids for $19.99 -- but that price is exclusive of both taxes and shipping. When, as an experiment, I added the lid to an Academy shopping cart and let it calculate shipping and taxes for me, the cost of the lid was $25.75 -- equivalent to what a Prime member would pay here at Amazon thanks to the Prime shipping waiver and the tax relief provided by the handy coupon Amazon is offering customers for this item on 1/3/20. || In other words, if the price of this lid is vexing, then Lodge -- whose $31.99 MSRP has set the tone here -- is a more appropriate target for folks' pique than Amazon. || However, in Lodge's defense, I offer my own observation that setting specialty lid prices at or near the cost of the pans they cover isn't a practice limited to Lodge: e.g. I have a Cuisinart stainless steel pan that retails without a lid; the lid that fit it was a specialty item that I had to purchase separately, at a cost dang near equal to that of the pan itself. Contributing factors, I'm told, are intricacies in a lid's design (e.g. the Lodge lid's self-basting spikes) and a lack of skimpiness in its materials (e.g. the Lodge lid's thick cast iron). *(As an aside, the non-sale price of the Lodge 12" skillet was seldom $19 even in 2013, when the original post was made, but generally hovered around $25 even at big box stores. I know because I bought my first Lodge 12" at one of those big box stores -- the one with the bullseye -- for $25 in 2013. As of 1/3/20, the Lodge 12" skillet costs $38 here at Amazon.) |
Question: | dollar cover for a 19 dollar pan? do they think we are stupid or something |
Answer: | Hi Eric, Thank you for your interest in Cuisinel cast iron. The deal of the day skillet set does not come with lids. Regards, Rose |

Question: | Why do they stick when you make scrambled eggs |
Answer: | As a general rule, I always re-season my cast iron before 1st use. I know most come saying that they are preseasoned but you don't know how long ago or what oil was used. You'll find a lot of recommendations out there for oil for seasoning but here's what I do and why: I use a parchment or wax paper ball to thinly coat the cast iron in coconut oil. Coconut oil has natural antimicrobial properties, doesn't go rancid quickly like vegetable oil or sunflower oil and isn't gone after one or two uses like bacon grease. I heat the pan in the oven for about an hour and then I have a nonstick surface. if you don't get the seasoning right or you don't preheat the pan, it can cause really bad sticking |

Question: | How tall is the pan |
Answer: | This is a great pan (got 2) ,love it ! One ☝️ for my son and for me. Biscuit pan for me ,keep it oiled. |
Question: | How does the manufacturer pre-season this pan....i.e., with what materials....resin, oil or |
Answer: | Think of seasoning like this: if a pan says it is "seasoned" by the manufacturer, that simply means it is "food grade anti-rust protection". You can use the cleaning mode on your oven to remove this layer and apply your own although it will heat up your house and stink it up as well with burnt oil. Your best bet is to take some sand paper to it and smooth it out so it's not so rough to remove some of the "seasoning" applied by the manufacturer and then reseason it with whatever you'd like. You can use pretty much anything you have on hand although I'd recommend something cheap but with a high smoke point like peanut oil or canola oil. I personally prefer peanut because when it burns it tends to smell sweet and canola tends to smell fishy. Aside from that if the above paragraph sounds like too much work, just start using it out of the box after washing it well and you'll never have to worry about it. The more you use it the better the seasoning will get. You can use wood, plastic or metal spoons or spatulas but I'd avoid plastic because it'll melt on ya. It will be strong like glass once it's seasoned properly. I personally use a sander on any new cast iron that isn't pre-polished. I know it will wear down over time but I just hate the rough finish it has and prefer to get it broken in quicker. |
Question: | what country was it made in |
Answer: | After much research the best I could find was, it was made in China |
Question: | I returned these cuz i didnt get the handles and scrappers. Why was my refund only $30? Ipaid almost |
Answer: | I don't know. Mine came with the handles. I use them like everyday. The handles are a big help when moving it. My husband doesn't cook, however he is my set up team in the morning. He chooses my pots and skillets. Since I started using thee, he always have one or both on the stove waiting. My mom loves to fry fish and chicken in her cast iron pot. She told me buy cast iron and take care of them and they will out live any skillet I own. So I will get her a set and write the seller about the handles. If doesn't get the handles as promised, I would send it back also, unless the agree to send the handles. The skillets are with keeping. |
Question: | I ordered this item but I didn’t even open it can I return it |
Answer: | Yes you can...even if you did open it you can return it in its original packaging. |
Question: | where are they made |
Answer: | Honestly I don't know but I always assume unless stated "made in america" that it is likely made in China like most things these days |
Question: | how to start with pre seasoned pan out of the box, does it need to b cleaned |
Answer: | i cleaned them and I believe they are already pre-seasoned |
