User questions & answers

Question: i have a lodge cast iron pan it says 10 in on bottom but messgers 12 on top what size lid do i need
Answer: You need a 12" lid. With the advent of wood-burning stoves, pans were produced to conform to the sizes of the openings in their tops known as "stove eyes." The 10 is the stove eye not diameter of the pan top.
Question: What's the difference betwen this lodge 12" lid (gl12) and the other lodge 12" (gc12)? will both fit the same 12" skillets? same heat resistance
Answer: I got an official answer from Lodge The GL is the newer version. The only difference in the GL12 and GC12 tempered glass lids is the knob on the top. The updated GL12 has a silicone knob that is oven safe to 400 degrees F. The older version (GC12) has a plastic knob, but it is still safe to up to 400 degrees F.
Question: In which country are these tempered glass lids manufactured
Answer: My order arrived just today. According to the retail box: 10¼" skillet is made in USA. The matching glass lid is made in China.
Question: Attn amazon! every lid i look at is missing one thing, the specs! thats all we need to know what to buy. what is the inset and overall dimension
Answer: This looks like a great lid. Every review I read fails to mention the tapered lip. It skus the measurements. The edge is at 9 9/16 but flat of the lip starts at 9 7/8. Does not fit 10" Granitestone

Lodge Manufacturing Company Lodge Cast Iron 10.5-inch Square Grill Pan, Black

Lodge

Based on 19 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The Lodge Cast Iron 10.5-inch Square Grill pan and Red Silicone Hot Handle Holder is a multi-functional cookware that works wonders with slow-cooking recipes and all your favorite foods. This pre-seasoned grill pan works like a charm right out of the box. Cast iron creates superior heat retention, heats evenly, and loves a campfire, unlike flimsier pans. Saute, sear, fry, bake and stir fry to heart's content in this generous 10.5-inch pan that features two handles for heavy lifting. While the pan comes pre-seasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. The Lodge seasoning procedure is a multiple-step process in which the seasoning oil is applied via an electrostatic spray system that coats the cookware, then it's baked in commercial ovens at very high temperatures. This allows the oil to penetrate deeply into the pores of the iron. This seasoning process achieves a seasoned finish that would take many months of home use to achieve.

  • Pre-seasoned and ready-to-use
  • Superior heat retention and even cooking
  • Two assist handles for heavy lifting
  • Use on all cooking surfaces, grills and campfires
  • Combo pack: 10.5-inch square grill pan and red silicone hot handle holder

User questions & answers

Question: induction usage possible
Answer: Yes the rule if a magnet will stick to the bottom it is induction ready I have only used mine on my induction cooktop.
Question: Anyone with experience cooking salmon? Suggestions? Recipies? (I don't like highly-seasoned foods
Answer: 1. season your salmon with some oil seasoning paste (oil + seasoning+ salt+ other spices of your choice). Let rest for 10-15 mins for the oil seasoning paste to be absorbed into the fish. If you don't like highly-seasoned foods, then make sure you buy good quality salmon, and you can just season it with some salt and a thin layer of oil, then adding some fresh lemon juice before serving. If you want to skip the oil too, then you need the part of the salmon that has more fat)2. Heat the pan until very very very hot, you don't need to put oil into the pan.3. Use medium high heat. Put the fish with the side you want to present on the plate DOWN. Seal for 2-4 mins depending on the thickness of your salmon.4. Flip the fish when you see the meat is almost half way cooked (you will notice the cooked part has a slightly different color)5. Turn OFF the heat or turn the heat down to low, because the heat from the pan will cook the meat for you and this process will prevent from over-cooking your fish.6. Cook for about 2 to 3 mins or until you see the color of the fish meat is slightly pinkish and when you press the fish with your finger the meat will not bounce back.7. Serve with some freshly cut lemon wedges, the squeeze the lemon juice on the fish before eating.
Question: The best way to clean a cast iron grill pan
Answer: Cast iron cookware is my favorite! I usually just rinse with hot water and use a mild scrubber on mine. After some time, however, my cast iron gets buildup on the sides - I put the pans in the self-cleaning oven and they come out like new. They do have to be re-seasoned but that doesn't take much effort. I'm sure it would work fine on this ridged pan that is sure to be more difficult to clean.
Question: how does this compare with the much more expensive enamel coated version? and why
Answer: Much better. I have this Lodge and the LC enamel version. Trust me on this - never buy this style pan with enamel coating. Grill type pans are more difficult to clean because of the ridges, nooks & crannies. Because cast iron seasons better and becomes more non-stick than enamel, it is MUCH easier to clean with use. My LC is in the garage awaiting disposal. I love LC, but their grill pans should be avoided.

User questions & answers

Question: Are there different models of he same lodge item? what i mean is, is there one 10" skillet, or are there several 10" skillets with different features
Answer: Theyre all the same just different brands
Question: Anyone use these on an electric stove. How long does it take to heat up
Answer: Hello, I use it on electric every day, For me it takes about 10 minutes to heat up on medium setting. It may heat up faster or slower depending on the quality of stove you have, my stove is a low quality stove, one of the good things about cast iron is you can also use it in the oven. Hope this helps
Question: The larger skillet arrived with some black bits flaking off. Is this normal or should it be returned
Answer: Ours came the same way. Don't worry it is part of the casting process. A good dry scrubbing will loosen and remove it. Then season it as per the directions. DO NOT short cut the seasoning process. Do it right and they will last for a century or more.
Question: How much does each pain weight
Answer: The big one is 2 hands heavy. I'm 75 ,225 lbs and it's a great pan but I use 2 hands to take it from drawer in bottom of stove to top of stove. My days of swinging cast iron pans are over. Medium and small are fine.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you keep this on while cooking on the stove
Answer: Since it's made of silicon it's probably good to use while cooking. If you have a gas stove and the flame comes around the side of the pan, the temp may exceed 500 degrees and it may scorch.
Question: The sleeve did not fit the smallest pan that comes with the Lodge Cast Iron set. Is there a smaller sleeve for that
Answer: If you read the information published on this listing, it says that this handle is for 10" and larger and then gives you the Lodge number for 8" and smaller. Since the handles vary in size, one pot holder cannot fit all
Question: Can you leave this on always if you use it on the cook top, and NOT in the oven
Answer: I have an electric (coil) stove top. I leave mine on all the time. It doesn't get hot when I preheat the pan and it hasnt ever melted. I do take it off when I clean the pan and don't put it back on until the pan has thoroughly dried. I don't have drawers in my kitchen to store it in, but leaving it on hasn't caused any issues for me.
Question: I read it protects up to 450 degrees, wondering if it's oven safe or only meant for quick use to move the pan from burner
Answer: Remove it as soon as you put the pan in the oven. Then you can put it back on just prior to removing the pan from the oven. You must realize that it would get hot in the oven just like the pan. The up to 450 degrees is just saying not for use if the pan was heated beyond that temp.

User questions & answers

Question: Why is the red so much more than the blue
Answer: My best guess is that it comes down to popularity. Red glazes also "pop" more that many other colors, making a smooth finish potentially slightly more difficult to achieve.
Question: are enamel pots and their lid oven proof and what is max temperature
Answer: They are oven proof. Not sure about max temp but I have put them in a 450 degree oven without any problems.
Question: is weight really 16lbs as stated in product details
Answer: LoL.....it's not quite 16 lbs. however it is heavy. I appreciate the weight of the cast iron and the quality of the product. I own all their (Lodge) enameled cast iron pieces and it's admired by even my mom who owns the other very expensive enameled cast iron.
Question: Where is it made USA or China
Answer: Just received (5/20/2020) the Lodge 3.6 qt. Casserole made in China.

User questions & answers

Question: Has anyone used these on nonstick pans and are they safe to use on them
Answer: These are made of plastic, much like a spatula you would use on Teflon pans. I think they would be fine to use on your nonstick pans.
Question: i just received these. how exactly do you use these? lodge logo up
Answer: I have used the scraper when brown meat in the iron pot and then scrap to get the scraps up. But, I am also now using it when I cook my oatmeal in a stove pot.Eveything just comes away from the sides of the pot. I put the rounded edge toward the curve of the pan or pot. Hope this help.
Question: What is better--these scrapers or the chain mail cast iron scrubbers
Answer: Depends on your pan. I use these on my enamel coated cast iron, the metal will ruin the finish. If you have roughed up cast iron, I would use metal/chain mail then season well.
Question: Are these heat resistant? Can I use them while the cast iron is still hot
Answer: They are not heat resistant and cannot be used while the pan is hot. Warm, sure, but not while hot. I melted one of mine slightly due to the pan being too hot while scraping.

100 years and still cooking:

Two historic events—the introduction of foundry seasoned cast iron cookware and the recent expansion of our foundry—represent dynamic examples of Lodge Manufacturing Company’s century-plus commitment to product innovation and investment in new equipment and technologies.

Seasoned cast iron propelled Lodge from the position of a regional manufacturer to the national stage, with Good Housekeeping presenting a “Good Buy” Award for the product enhancement. Our appearance on the national stage expanded throughout the first decade of the new century, with record sales leading Lodge to the largest expansion in our history.

While we are proud of our recent history, there is a backstory. So travel with us to the small town of South Pittsburg, Tennessee at the end of the 19th Century. Nestled at the base of the Appalachian Mountain’s Cumberland Plateau and on the banks of the Tennessee River, the town was abuzz with new opportunities.

In 1896 Joseph Lodge began a cast iron foundry, named in honor of his minister, Rev. Joseph Hayden Blacklock. Family owned, our origins were humble and our products varied, from stoves, to skillets and kitchen sinks.

As each decade passed, Lodge developed a business model to continually update and improve equipment and foundry practices. Work was labor intensive, with all of our cookware poured and cleaned by hand.

The 1950s saw the installation new molding machinery, mechanized sand delivery systems, the construction of a gas fired aluminum furnace to cast patterns for the production of sand mold impressions and a machine to clean castings.

When the introduction of new cookware metals and coatings increased competition in the 1960s, Lodge countered with a Disamatic automatic molding machine. Two years later, Lodge added an electric furnace to operate the Disamatic molding and pouring system, outpacing the capacity of the coke-fired cupola, at lower cost.

The Clean Water and Air Acts of 1970 led American companies to install new equipment to meet the pollution control laws. Lodge accepted the standards by replacing the old electric furnaces and adding a second Disamatic molding machine.

Not only did the updates meet the requirements of the Clean Air and Water legislation, by 1976 our automated processes produced as many molds in an hour as one man’s daily productivity 30 years earlier.

With the switch from antiquated electric furnaces to environmentally sound induction furnaces, 1991 proved to be a pivotal juncture in the standards of Lodge Manufacturing Company. The use of magnetic energy to produce heat changed our status from a Large Quantity Generator of Hazardous Waste to a Small Quantity Generator, and we received the 1994 Tennessee Governor’s Award for Excellence in Hazardous Waste Reduction.

Today, Lodge Manufacturing Company maintains a zero hazardous waste stream foundry, earning accolades from the environmental and manufacturing communities.

Eleven years after in the introduction of seasoned cast iron cookware, Lodge broke ground for our foundry expansion. With completion of the first phase in the fall of 2014, the expansion includes a new melt system, an additional pouring/molding line and most importantly—new American jobs!

In more ways than he could have ever imagined, Joseph Lodge would not recognize the business he started over a century ago. Lodge continues to be family owned and we are the sole manufacturer of cast iron cookware in US, producing over 120 different foundry seasoned cast iron items for worldwide gourmet, outdoor and restaurant markets.

More importantly, Lodge Manufacturing Company is universally accepted as the world leader in the cast iron cookware category.

User questions & answers

Question: Is there a loop for hanging
Answer: Yes, they have a nice size loop for hanging.
Question: can you hang these, and where is the loop located
Answer: No loops. You can't hang them. Only store flat.
Question: How could anyone leave these on a pan over an open flame and expect them not to burn? they're fabric pot holders. come on, people
Answer: The handle doesn't sit over an open flame, the flame is under the bottom of the pan. If you have flames just blasting up the side of the pan, you need to turn down the burner. It is not necessary to have the flame up so high. In fact, it's ridiculous. And if you are really worried about that, the holders do slip right off. You can easily slip them right back on when needed. I use these, am speaking from experience and have not had the type of issue you imagine. Keep the flame at a sane level and everything will be fine.KEEP CALM AND USE COMMON SENSE!!
Question: Are these stiff? Will they adhere to the handle of the pan easily? No cast iron pan, just for asimple fry pan
Answer: The are somewhat stiff. I use mine on a cheap lightweight frying pan that has a metal (hot!) handle. It slips onto the handle easily

User questions & answers

Question: Does the skillet fit on top of the Dutch Oven as a lid? Could I put my bread dough on the skillet then the DO over that and have it sealed
Answer: Skillet will fit on top of dutch oven, not sure the seal is tight because the skillet has vents on the edge. The lid that comes with the set fits both the skillet and the dutch oven.
Question: Can you use these cast iron pieces on a glass stovetop
Answer: good idea to use parchment paper between the cast iron and glass INDUCTION cooktop. Not sure if this will work on electric cook tops - check parchment paper temperature rating, but most is siliconized so it should work...test however.
Question: When you grease the cookware how do you store it to keep the grease from becoming rancid
Answer: Don't "grease" your pan just use a very light coat of lard, bacon grease or crisco to season your pan after washing and drying well. Then place the pan in the oven at 450 for about an hour. Wipe about at 15 and 30 minutes into the baking process.
Question: Mine got rusty from sitting around, what can I do about it , if anything
Answer: Most important thing with CI cookware is keeping them 'seasoned'. An old one, I cleaned itwell, used a steel wool scratchier a few drops of dawn, totally dry, and covered the pot completely with a coat of Crisco. Turn Oven to 350° place rack on the lowest slot, put a heavy piece of foil there Lay the pot/skillet in the oven upside down and 'bake ' for 1 hour. Shut the oven off and leave in there until cool. Now if it really rusty and you cannot remove the rust, Lodge says to take it to a Machine shop and have it sandblasted. Quickly home, wash it with hot water, a scrub brush and 1 drop of Dan, rinse and coast with Crisco and proceed as above. Any questions contact Lodge www.lodgemfg.com or call CS at 423-837-7181. Most important is when done using ..clean it out with hot water dry and coat with Crisco when it is still warm. I stack in the cabinet, using parchment paper liners between each pan/pot. Never use metal tools. Wood plastic or silicone. Did this help??

User questions & answers

Question: Will this fit the lodge l8dd3 cast iron dutch oven, 5 qt handles
Answer: I don't know what the lodge l8dd3 Lodge cast iron dutch oven with 5 qt handles looks like, I have two Rachael Ray cast iron dutch ovens that are 5 qt or larger and the Silicone Holder that you are considering fits my dutch ovens and my larger cast iron lodge frying pans.
Question: Are these oven safe? Can I put these in the oven
Answer: They are rated up to 450 degrees, but I never leave them on in the oven. I think you would still need potholders to pick up the pan. These are excellent for stove top cooking.
Question: Does this fit the 17" Lodge pan
Answer: I am not sure, as I only own the 12 inch pan, but I would think that handle part would be the same size for Lodge pans. The widest part fitting against the pan is 5 1/2". If that is what you pan measures, it should fit.
Question: pack
Answer: One pack unfortunately. I have a skillet with two handles so had to order two. One thing I noticed is they still get pretty hot with the silicone handles on so just beware.

100 Years And Still Cooking. ..

With the switch from antiquated electric furnaces to more efficient induction furnaces, 1991 proved to be a pivotal juncture in the green standards of Lodge Manufacturing Company.

Question: Hello. Will this product fit a Lodge model F6862? It is 6.5", with a 3" handle. Much thanks

Question: Has anyone left this sleeve on while cooking long periods and high heat on the stove top (i.e. fried chicken
Answer: I have left mine on and it was fine. I also (accidently) left it in oven with very high heat. It was fine.
Question: Will this fit the chef collection --- 8 inch --- cast iron skillet sku: lc8sk is there a better size recommended
Answer: The 8.25" skillet has an approx. 4.25" handle and this silicone handle cover will fit it perfectly. The 6.25" skillet has an approx. 3.5" handle and this item will be loosely fitting. It won't fall off the 6.25" skillet, but it will slide off 1.25" before stopping. Measurements are from a brand new 8.25" Lodge skillet and a very old 6.25" Lodge skillet.
Question: Should i remove it when i am cooking on the stove ? Like frying eggs... Or I keep it
Answer: It's made of silicone so it doesn't get hot while your cooking with it on. As long as the actual flame doesn't reach the handle you can leave it on.

User questions & answers

Question: What material is this made with? Please list all materials used to make this product. I find it interesting that they omit this info
Answer: They do the trick, just like they were made too. Wash ok. Perfect
Question: Do these fit any cast iron pan
Answer: I have a couple different size/ brand cast iron pans and they fit them all.
Question: Are they washable? Thank you
Answer: I did not receive these.
Question: Are these better or worse compared to the lodge silicon handle holder
Answer: Dear T. Erickson:I've used the "LODGE"-brand Striped HOT/Heat-Resistant Cast Iron cookware Handle Covers for well-OVER a decade now, and these work Very, VERY WELL, overall!! We just purchased one of "Lodge's" Silicon Hot/Heat-Resistant Handle Covers in LATE Summer of 2015 for 1st time....It works "OK", BUT: For the money, buy a PAIR (Or however many You want, naturally!) of the Striped Heat Resistant i.e.: fabric-version Handle Covers pictured, and SAVE Your money on the Silicon-version! The Silicon-version is MORE "Gimmick" than "Good" product quite frankly (!!), and depending on what type of cast iron utensil I'm using>>ESPECIALLY griddles & shallow skillets that lay CLOSE to HOT burners & TOPs of stoves (!!)>>I've come close to really BURNING my darn hand pretty seriously a few times using the Silicon-version over past 3-to-4 months since We've had darn thing....I've almost NEVER done this w/ the "fabric"-versions pictured to left, using these for a decade++ (Unless I was NOT "paying attention", Or doing something "Stupid"!!). Bottomline: I wouldn't waste the money buying another Silicon "heat-resistant" handle cover for cast iron cookware!! HOPE this helps in Your decision-making process.BEST of Luck & Regards,Robert L. Ruttinger
