Answer: I have put my cast iron pan in the oven along with the silicone handles, but I still had to use an oven mit. Each pan is different as far as what the max temperature allowed would be. I would look up the pan on Amazon and see what is said.

Question: what is the difference between this lodge pan LCS3 @ $25 and the lodge LK8S3 pan which is $15? Both are ten 1/2 inch pans look the same
Answer: the LK8S3 is 12" diameter, has more a sharper "corner" where where the sides join the bottom, has more vertical sides, and is 2" deep. the LCS3 is 10" diameter, has sides that are angled outwards more, the sides join the bottom in more of a curve, and is 1.75" deep. basically, it much easier to slide an omelet (or anything else, I suppose) sideways out of the LCS3 without breaking.
Question: Mine seems to be rusting. I just bought it. Should it have rust? It got worse after the first use and wash
Answer: It sounds like you may have accidentally not cared for it correctly right at first. The nice thing about cast iron pans is that the rust problem can be fixed and it can be made just as good as new with a little elbow grease as long as you haven't let the corrosion go on long enough so that it causes pitting. What you'll need to do is remove the rust and any current seasoning with steel wool or something like that. When you remove the rust and seasoning, that is about the only time you might want to use soap along with the water, because the soap will help to remove the seasoning. You want to remove the current seasoning because you will be re-seasoning the entire pan and you don't want thicker parts of the seasoning or else the pan will become sticky or tacky in spots. Lodge seasons their pans with a canola oil spray. However, the best initial seasoning method I found stated to use Crisco (vegetable shortening). Their method worked extremely well for me. I don't remember the process to exacting details, but here it is to the best of my memory. First, heat the pan up by putting it in the oven at about your lowest oven setting of about 150F-200F for about a half hour or maybe a little more. This should make the pan pretty warm but not burning hot to the touch. Still take care in handling the hot pan to not burn yourself though. Before you start wiping the pan down with Crisco, turn the oven up to about 300F because the pan will go back in the oven. The first heating makes sure the pan is dry before applying seasoning and gets the pan just warm enough to spread Crisco over the pan and have the Crisco melt. Once the Crisco is spread all over the pan (inside and out) wipe it down some with a paper towel to keep the seasoning thin. You don't want too much seasoning on the pan. If the seasoning is too thick in spots it will get tacky at those spots. Place the pan back in the oven upside down with a sheet pan or sheet of aluminum foil underneath the pan to catch any oil drippings. After about 45 minutes, pull the pan back out and wipe the pan down again. You want to do this because the seasoning will drip downwards due to gravity and collect near the rim, etc. You want to wipe that excess off before it gets too dry and tacky. I can't remember if you sort of buff it at this point or at the end. I think you may want to buff it some with the paper towel at this point some. At the end it should have a somewhat dull black finish. But after you remove the excess, stick it back in for about another 20 minutes. Pull it out, buff it a little more if necessary and let it cool and the seasoning is done.At this point, your pan should be back to a nearly brand new state. My recommendation for the first few times you cook with it is to cook some chicken with the skin on or some bacon or something with some grease or fat to it. One of my grandmother's old cast iron pans stated "Chicken Fryer" on it. On one of my cast iron pans, the first couple of dishes I cooked in it was skin-on chicken. I used a little olive oil to cook the chicken in with the skin side down first. It was a chicken dish with olives, grapes and rosemary from the Smitten Kitchen Cookbook. After you cook the chicken on the stovetop, then it goes into the oven for a bit. After cooking that dish a couple times on the stovetop then finishing it in the oven, it gave my cast iron pan an amazing finish that looked like my grandmother had been cooking with it for 60 years. I think that the chicken fat from chicken skin, especially when cooked in the oven does an amazing job of helping to season the pan beyond the initial seasoning.Now after you cook your first dish, what I do is let the pan cool down some. Then I wash it down with plain hot water and no soap. If anything gets stuck to the bottom of the pan, I use this little 3" x 3" chain mail scrub pad. It gets the gunk off without damaging the seasoning. It kind of surprised me with it being metal. I thought it would hurt the seasoning but it didn't at all and it got the burnt on black gunk off pretty well if you have any. After I rinse it with hot water, I then just dry it off. I don't oil mine down or anything after that. If oil is added after cleaning it can become a gummy sticky mess with too thick of a seasoning that becomes tacky. Not to mention you can get oil all over where you store it. Instead, you just want to make sure you store it in a dry place right after you dry clean it and dry it off.For example, I once let some of mine sit on the counter close to the sink too long and the bottom of the pans started rusting. But when I let them cool and clean them off, dry and store them in a dry place right after cooking, I've had no issues at all with rusting.I wouldn't say there was likely anything wrong with your pan. You just need to get use to cooking with cast iron. Also as an FYI, avoid cooking foods with a high acidity at first until the seasoning is somewhat well developed. Acid can tend to break down the seasoning.PS - You don't really need to put it back on the stove to evaporate any remaining water. I've tried that and you really don't need to do that to prevent it from rusting. In fact, I think there is more risk to it than to not doing it. That's because if you're not careful you can overcook the pan with nothing in it and then you burn and ruin the seasoning. You can tell if you've burned and ruined the seasoning by how it will change the color of the pan from that nice dull black finish to this off colored spot on it. Then you have to go back and re-season it all over again.

Lodge Pre-Seasoned Cast-Iron Skillet

The black patina given to the cookware by the factory seasoning process is, in fact, vegetable oil that has been baked into a piece of cookware that has emerged from an individual sand mold. This coating of oil is a functional application and not a cosmetic application. The cookware is hanging as it rides through the electrostatic sprayer and commercial conveyor ovens at very high temperatures. This allows the oil to penetrate deeply into the pores of the iron which creates an easy release finish. As a result of this process, you may see a blister or bubble of oil at the southern-most point or at the end of the handle of the cookware piece. If visible, it will rub or flake off with your finger, leaving a brown spot. Don’t worry, it’s not rust but a seasoned spot that is brown, indicative of the varnish stage of seasoning. As a matter of fact, this is the color of home seasoned iron until it has been used several times. The brown spot will turn black with use.

While we are proud of our recent history, there is a backstory. So travel with us to the small town of South Pittsburg, Tennessee at the end of the 19th Century. Nestled at the base of the Appalachian Mountain’s Cumberland Plateau and on the banks of the Tennessee River, the town was abuzz with new opportunities.

In 1896 Joseph Lodge began a cast iron foundry, named in honor of his minister, Rev. Joseph Hayden Blacklock. Family owned, our origins were humble and our products varied, from stoves, to skillets and kitchen sinks.

As each decade passed, Lodge developed a business model to continually update and improve equipment and foundry practices. Work was labor intensive, with all of our cookware poured and cleaned by hand.

The 1950s saw the installation new molding machinery, mechanized sand delivery systems, the construction of a gas fired aluminum furnace to cast patterns for the production of sand mold impressions and a machine to clean castings.

When the introduction of new cookware metals and coatings increased competition in the 1960s, Lodge countered with a Disamatic automatic molding machine. Two years later, Lodge added an electric furnace to operate the Disamatic molding and pouring system, outpacing the capacity of the coke-fired cupola, at lower cost.

After in the introduction of seasoned cast iron cookware, Lodge broke ground for our foundry expansion. With completion of the first phase in the fall of 2014, the expansion includes a new melt system, an additional pouring/molding line and most importantly—new American jobs!

In more ways than he could have ever imagined, Joseph Lodge would not recognize the business he started over a century ago. Answer: Works great on our induction cooktop on either side. Heats very rapidly if you want, but of course the way to heat cast iron is slowly so it comes to the temp you want to cook at. Cast iron is of course way better than the clad cookware that can get loud from vibrations as the different layers absorb the magnetic energy at different rates. This also doubles as a great defrosting plate from stuff from the freezer. Your great-great grandchildren will be glad you bought this as they're using it.

Answer: 5 inches around...not including the handle. I love them!!!
Question: Has anyone used these with the le creuset grill pan? trying to determine whether the tooth spacing on the scraper line up with this non-lodge pan
Answer: The handle on these little skillet are only about 2-1/2" long so use your own best judgement. I use standard-sized cloth handle covers to move them when they're hot.
Question: Does this fit for the Calphalon grill pan
Answer: The finish is bumpy. I used them to make individual brownies and they worked well.

While we are proud of our recent history, there is a backstory. So travel with us to the small town of South Pittsburg, Tennessee at the end of the 19th Century. Nestled at the base of the Appalachian Mountain’s Cumberland Plateau and on the banks of the Tennessee River, the town was abuzz with new opportunities.

In 1896 Joseph Lodge began a cast iron foundry, named in honor of his minister, Rev. Joseph Hayden Blacklock. Family owned, our origins were humble and our products varied, from stoves, to skillets and kitchen sinks.

As each decade passed, Lodge developed a business model to continually update and improve equipment and foundry practices. Work was labor intensive, with all of our cookware poured and cleaned by hand.

The 1950s saw the installation new molding machinery, mechanized sand delivery systems, the construction of a gas fired aluminum furnace to cast patterns for the production of sand mold impressions and a machine to clean castings.

When the introduction of new cookware metals and coatings increased competition in the 1960s, Lodge countered with a Disamatic automatic molding machine. Two years later, Lodge added an electric furnace to operate the Disamatic molding and pouring system, outpacing the capacity of the coke-fired cupola, at lower cost.

The Clean Water and Air Acts of 1970 led American companies to install new equipment to meet the pollution control laws. Lodge accepted the standards by replacing the old electric furnaces and adding a second Disamatic molding machine.

Not only did the updates meet the requirements of the Clean Air and Water legislation, by 1976 our automated processes produced as many molds in an hour as one man’s daily productivity 30 years earlier.

With the switch from antiquated electric furnaces to more efficient induction furnaces, 1991 proved to be a pivotal juncture in the green standards of Lodge Manufacturing Company. The use of magnetic energy to produce heat changed our status from a Large Quantity Generator of Hazardous Waste to a Small Quantity Generator, and we received the 1994 Tennessee Governor’s Award for Excellence in Hazardous Waste Reduction.

Today, Lodge Manufacturing Company maintains a zero hazardous waste stream foundry, earning accolades from the environmental and manufacturing communities.

Eleven years after in the introduction of seasoned cast iron cookware, Lodge broke ground for our foundry expansion. With completion of the first phase in the fall of 2014, the expansion includes a new melt system, an additional pouring/molding line and most importantly—new American jobs!

Answer: The Speaker A and B buttons on the front individually turn on or off either set of speakers. You can turn both A and B on at the same time for a setup you describe, although it won't be actual surround, as this is a stereo receiver that only supports left/right, not 5.1 or 7.1 surround

Answer: Yes the rule if a magnet will stick to the bottom it is induction ready I have only used mine on my induction cooktop.
Question: Anyone with experience cooking salmon? Suggestions? Recipies? (I don't like highly-seasoned foods
Answer: 1. season your salmon with some oil seasoning paste (oil + seasoning+ salt+ other spices of your choice). Let rest for 10-15 mins for the oil seasoning paste to be absorbed into the fish. If you don't like highly-seasoned foods, then make sure you buy good quality salmon, and you can just season it with some salt and a thin layer of oil, then adding some fresh lemon juice before serving. If you want to skip the oil too, then you need the part of the salmon that has more fat)2. Heat the pan until very very very hot, you don't need to put oil into the pan.3. Use medium high heat. Put the fish with the side you want to present on the plate DOWN. Seal for 2-4 mins depending on the thickness of your salmon.4. Flip the fish when you see the meat is almost half way cooked (you will notice the cooked part has a slightly different color)5. Turn OFF the heat or turn the heat down to low, because the heat from the pan will cook the meat for you and this process will prevent from over-cooking your fish.6. Cook for about 2 to 3 mins or until you see the color of the fish meat is slightly pinkish and when you press the fish with your finger the meat will not bounce back.7. Serve with some freshly cut lemon wedges, the squeeze the lemon juice on the fish before eating.
Question: The best way to clean a cast iron grill pan
Answer: Cast iron cookware is my favorite! I usually just rinse with hot water and use a mild scrubber on mine. After some time, however, my cast iron gets buildup on the sides - I put the pans in the self-cleaning oven and they come out like new. They do have to be re-seasoned but that doesn't take much effort. I'm sure it would work fine on this ridged pan that is sure to be more difficult to clean.
Question: how does this compare with the much more expensive enamel coated version? and why
Answer: Much better. I have this Lodge and the LC enamel version. Trust me on this - never buy this style pan with enamel coating. Grill type pans are more difficult to clean because of the ridges, nooks & crannies. Because cast iron seasons better and becomes more non-stick than enamel, it is MUCH easier to clean with use. My LC is in the garage awaiting disposal. I love LC, but their grill pans should be avoided.

Question: How high is the lip on the pan? Could I use it to fry something in a half inch of oil
Answer: Lip is about one half inch and rounded. I would never use this pan with more than a coating of oil. Using more could cause a spill and fire.
Question: I like to make small personal pizzas, will this work instead of the 14" pizza pan which is too big
Answer: It is excellent for this purpose, but you should also consider the Lodge pizza griddle. I preheat to 500, insert my pizza on a pizza screen and then slide off onto the cast iron after 4-5 minutes. I lightly oil the screen but not the pan. The 14" griddle is a terrific pan for many purposes, and it retains higher heat even if you're only using a small part of the surface. Some people use it as a "pizza stone." I use both these pans very frequently.
Question: Does this pan work on an induction stove
Answer: It works.... but you've got to really watch it ... The cast Iron ware I use (1 vintage wagner bought at a yard sale, and 2 new lodge products) gets too hot and in turn heats the induction plate so high it turns off... I have a salton portable cook top from costco (similar to ASIN:B00FAD57SC Salton Induction Cooker Energy efficiency 300W-1800W, 140F-465F)

Answer: The Lodge skillet is EXCELLENT tool in making a variety of foods including rotis/chapatis/breads, grilling etc. Have been using it for the last 20 yrs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Question: Can someone tell me if the Lodge LSRG3 10.5 inch grill measurers 10.5 from end to end or is it the grilling surface
Answer: the 10.5 is the grill surface, from rim to rim is about 10.75. the added thingies at the corners that are handled from rim to end handle is 11.5.
Question: Has anyone ever bought two for use side-by-side? It might be better than buying the bigger grill, which might not be big enough to fit my burners
Answer: If your burners are spread far apart, I would think 2 of these single sized grill/griddles would actually be more productive than the large double sized one, where you'd find no heat in the middle of your double griddle plate, between your 2 burners.
Question: cleaning instruction
Answer: Amazon would not post my review with links that showed that Lodge uses a form of varnish on it's products - and some use wax. I have many older cast iron and this was not acting the same when I tried to grill lamb chops. Then I did much research. The newer products are preseasoned with polymerized oil, wax or varnish. This was for a cast iron dutch oven by Lodge. (I tried to contact the company no return calls yet). If your Dutch oven is made by LODGE, the protective coating is a sprayed varnish coating, which must be scrubbed off. Heat the Dutch oven inside your home oven to 225oF., then with a hot pad, lower the oven into hot soapy water, and scrub the Dutch oven with a S.O.S. pad. Scrub the inside and outside of the Dutch oven very well, rinse well, and towel dry. Then place the Dutch oven back into your oven at 225° to dry for about 10 to 15 minutes. The only way to dry cast iron is to dry it completely. I do mine in the oven because, the heat is not concentrated in one spot, as it is on the stove top, which can cause minute cracks. If your Dutch oven is made by any of the other companies that make outdoor Dutch ovens, the protective coating is dipped paraffin wax, which can be burned off.
Question: Can this be used on gas burners
Answer: Yes it can be used on gas and electric. The corners get extremely hot, I use some silicone pot holders to move it, they keep the heat tolerable, and are thin enough to get under the handles.On my electric stove, this sits ALMOST on the top of the stove due to the low burner profile, and the slight recess of the griddle side when using it grill side up.

Question: Has anyone used these on nonstick pans and are they safe to use on them
Answer: These are made of plastic, much like a spatula you would use on Teflon pans. I think they would be fine to use on your nonstick pans.
Question: i just received these. how exactly do you use these? lodge logo up
Answer: I have used the scraper when brown meat in the iron pot and then scrap to get the scraps up. But, I am also now using it when I cook my oatmeal in a stove pot.Eveything just comes away from the sides of the pot. I put the rounded edge toward the curve of the pan or pot. Hope this help.
Question: What is better--these scrapers or the chain mail cast iron scrubbers
Answer: Depends on your pan. I use these on my enamel coated cast iron, the metal will ruin the finish. If you have roughed up cast iron, I would use metal/chain mail then season well.
Question: Are these heat resistant? Can I use them while the cast iron is still hot
Answer: They are not heat resistant and cannot be used while the pan is hot. Warm, sure, but not while hot. I melted one of mine slightly due to the pan being too hot while scraping.

While we are proud of our recent history, there is a backstory. So travel with us to the small town of South Pittsburg, Tennessee at the end of the 19th Century. Nestled at the base of the Appalachian Mountain’s Cumberland Plateau and on the banks of the Tennessee River, the town was abuzz with new opportunities.

In 1896 Joseph Lodge began a cast iron foundry, named in honor of his minister, Rev. Joseph Hayden Blacklock. Family owned, our origins were humble and our products varied, from stoves, to skillets and kitchen sinks.

As each decade passed, Lodge developed a business model to continually update and improve equipment and foundry practices. Work was labor intensive, with all of our cookware poured and cleaned by hand.

The 1950s saw the installation new molding machinery, mechanized sand delivery systems, the construction of a gas fired aluminum furnace to cast patterns for the production of sand mold impressions and a machine to clean castings.

When the introduction of new cookware metals and coatings increased competition in the 1960s, Lodge countered with a Disamatic automatic molding machine. Two years later, Lodge added an electric furnace to operate the Disamatic molding and pouring system, outpacing the capacity of the coke-fired cupola, at lower cost.

The Clean Water and Air Acts of 1970 led American companies to install new equipment to meet the pollution control laws. Lodge accepted the standards by replacing the old electric furnaces and adding a second Disamatic molding machine.

Answer: pretty much the same....likely not retain heat as long though

Answer: Yes, after I cooked the bacon. Crispy edges on the pancakes, my granddaughter who wouldn't eat pancakes loved them.
Question: How "non-stick" is this skillet? Is there any special required care
Answer: It is not a non-stick pan, but is relatively non-stick. Think of your black cast iron skillet/pan. Care and use instructions included. I use mine on the grill and don't have any problems
Question: What are the true dimensions of the griddle? I see two sets of dimensions: 18 x10 and 21.2 x
Answer: 18 x 10 are the cooking surface dimensions. 21.2 x 10.2 are the exterior dimensions which include the handles.
